?Question for written answer E-005314/2020to the CommissionRule 138Chrysoula Zacharopoulou (Renew), Hilde Vautmans (Renew), Michal Wiezik (PPE), Martin Hojsík (Renew), Eleonora Evi (NI)Subject:The EU’s leadership in global biodiversity conservationAccording to the World Wide Fund For Nature, global animal populations have declined by 68?% since 1970. We are approaching the end of the decade for biodiversity established by the United Nations, but the efforts undertaken have not made it possible to reverse this trend. This massive extinction of species calls, more than ever, for an urgent and global reaction.Given the scale of the disaster, only multilateral action will produce results. As the EU prepares to endorse the Leaders’ Pledge for Nature at the UN Biodiversity Summit at the end of September, it must continue to assert its leadership role on the international stage. At the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity in 2021, the international community will need to take decisive action.1.What does the Commission plan to do to ensure the broadest possible global support for an agreement that is ambitious enough to halt this unprecedented collapse in biodiversity?2.What concrete objectives does it intend to promote and what financial resources within the framework of the next multiannual financial framework, including the Neighbourhood, Development and International Cooperation Instrument, does it recommend using to achieve these objectives and ensure that the EU contributes sufficiently to the conservation of global biodiversity? ................
