PROCEEDINGS

FRIDAY MORNING SESSION

THE 183RD ANNUAL SESSION OF THE NOLYNN ASSOCIATION OF SEPARATE BAPTIST IN CHRIST OF KENTUCKY, INC. WAS HELD AT THE NOLYNN ASSOCIATION CAMPGROUND IN BUFFALO, KENTUCKY ON SEPTEMBER 20, 2002.

The Friday morning session was opened by an altar of prayer led by Rev. Troy Grider of South KY Association. The congregation sang “Glory Is Coming, Won’t It Be Wonderful There” led by Bro. Wendell Benningfield of Mt. Salem Church accompanied by Bro. Rick Goff of Friendship. Our moderator, Rev. Jim Goff, led us in the pledges to the American Flag, Christian Flag, and the Bible as the congregation stood. The devotion service was given by Rev. Keith Sullivan, our assistant moderator. He read Psalms 27:1-7. An altar of prayer followed being led by Rev. John L. Davidson. The welcome address was given by Rev. Gary McGaha, and the response was given by Rev. Lonzo Wiggington of Central Indiana Association.

Reading of the Rules of Order by the clerk was next. The Association body was then called together by our moderator, Rev. Jim Goff. A total of 16 ministers and 14 deacons were present and in harmony. The moderator had the ministers and deacons stand together and by their silence, they agreed to do business for this setting of the Association.

A call for church letters with Minute money, reading same, and seating delegates was next. Rev. Melvin Underwood made a motion, seconded by Rev. Gary McGaha to read all church letters and receive all delegates under one motion. Motion carried. The following church letters were then read: Calvary Hill, Faith, Friendship, Glasgow, Little Barren, Louisville, Mt. Salem, Mt. Zion, Munfordville, Oak Grove, Okolona, Otter Creek, Pleasant Ridge, True Gospel, Sand Lick, Union, Zion, and Coral Ridge. Bro. Arnold Stidham made a motion, seconded by Rev. Jim Hale, to accept the letters, seat the delegates, and print the letters in the Minutes. Motion carried. The moderator had the appointed delegates and standing delegates to stand and all voted at peace. Bro. Jim Goff then declared the 183rd setting of the Nolynn Association in session. A call for letters from new churches was next. There were none. We then recognized visitors from Sister Associations. We had 3 visitors from Central Indiana and South Kentucky to stand. Their names are printed in the Minutes under the heading “Visitors From Sister Associations”.

The moderator then appointed the following committees for this Association: Program, Condition, Obituary, Audit, Divine, Resolutions, and Temperance. Committees for the 2003 Association were then appointed. They were Constitution (Bro. Olyn Sprowles - chairman, Bro. Rick Goff, Bro. Winfred Simpson, Bro. Wendell Benningfield, Rev. Mike Perkins), Enrollment (Sis. Debbie Perkins - chairperson, Sis. Carolyn Milby, Sis. Louise Hash), Association Revival (Bro. Noah Vance - chairman, Bro. Bobby Warren, Bro. Arnold Stidham), and Communion and Feetwashing (Bro. Keith Brown - chairman, Bro. Herbert Martin, Bro. Albert Peace). Rev. Melvin Underwood will remain as the SBMI member for the coming year.

The congregation sang “That Glad Reunion Day” led by Bro. Herbert Martin of Friendship Church accompanied by Sis. Shannon Kennedy of Zion Church as Rev. Verlin Perry came forward to preach the introductory sermon. He read St. John 10:1-5; Cor. I 14:8. Rev. Perry asked us what voice are we listening to today? Are we listening to God? There’s more to being a Christian than just having your name in the church book. We must be able to read the signs of today when God talks to us in His still, small voice. God wants us to come to Him, and He will give us rest. He continued to say that we choose the voice that we want to listen to. The question is, “Do we listen to God’s?” Jesus is coming back someday. Are you ready? To those who listen, they are guaranteed “a Heaven to gain and a hell to shun.” Rev. Perry concluded by saying, “When this world is done, you can hear Him say, ‘Well done my faithful son.’”

Rev. Jim Goff then requested Bro. Meryl Young of Little Barren Church, accompanied by Sis. Shannon Kennedy, to sing “Where The Soul Never Dies” during a Christian handshake.

The clerk read a full report of the Divine Committee. Bro. Randy Kennedy made a motion to accept the report, and Rev. Melvin Underwood seconded it. Motion carried. The dismissal was prayed by Rev. Nolan Howell. The blessing on the noon meal was given by Rev. Brandon Goodin. We were adjourned until 1:00pm.

FRIDAY afternoon SESSION

THE FRIDAY AFTERNOON SESSION WAS CALLED TOGETHER BY SINGING “WHEN THE ROLL IS CALLED UP YONDER” LED BY BRO. BARRY ARNETT OF OAK GROVE CHURCH ACCOMPANIED BY SIS. STACY SIMPSON OF OAK GROVE CHURCH. THE DEVOTION WAS GIVEN BY REV. TROY GRIDER OF SOUTH KY ASSOCIATION. HIS SCRIPTURE WAS PROVERBS 15:1-16. AN ALTAR OF PRAYER THEN FOLLOWED BEING LED BY REV. EUDELL STILTS.

The Obituary report was read, and the widows of deceased ministers and deacons and spouses of deceased members of the Nolynn Association were recognized. A motion was made by Bro. Randy Kennedy, seconded by Rev. Melvin Underwood, to accept the report and print it in the Minutes. Motion carried. A total of 9 members came forward to be recognized in memory of those who had passed away as the moderator called on Rev. Eudell Stilts to pray the memorial prayer as the congregation stood.

Rev. Gary McGaha came forward to preach the memorial sermon. He read Joshua 4:1-9; Isaiah 61:1-2. Rev. McGaha opened by stating that the Lord’s love is unconditional. He’ll always love us, and we should be thankful for everything He’s done for us. He challenged us all by asking us what our goals were as an Association and as churches. Are we going to try to grow or are we just going to continue on the same path? Rev. McGaha preached that we must uplift Jesus with our love as He did for us when He died on the cross for us. We need to feel joy in our hearts and not a feeling of burden. After Rev. McGaha said that God should be first on our list, some people came to the altar to pray. How can we expect more if we continue to quench the Spirit? Rev. McGaha closed by saying that we need to be a living sacrifice and a living memorial.

The reading of the Friday morning session was next. Bro. Randy Kennedy made a motion, seconded by Bro. Tommie Hash, to receive them as read with any needed corrections or additions and print them in the form of Minutes. Motion carried.

Unfinished business was called for next. Rev. Melvin Underwood mentioned that Permanent Rule #16 will be added to the Minutes. It had mysteriously disappeared over the years with no Minutes showing that it was ever voted to be removed. The clerk read the tabled motion concerning item 5 from the 2001 Ministers and Deacons Report which is intended to modify Article X of the Constitution. This motion reads as follows:

We recommend that Article X of the Constitution be changed beginning at “If no reconciliation is made, …” to read, “then the matter will be presented to the Association, and the church will then receive a letter of dismissal.”.

The body voted on the motion, and it carried. Article X of our Constitution gets modified.

The devotional service was then led by Rev. John Perkins. He read Proverbs 2:1-12. An altar of prayer followed led by Rev. James Hale. Rev. Ronda Arnett came forward to preach the doctrinal sermon. He read from Titus 2:1-8. He stated that the doctrinal sermon is the whole Bible. The Word is sound, but there are people that twist the Word to their advantage. People want to hear what they want to hear. We are living in times where people think nothing is wrong. He preached that the problem is because we have failed to teach the doctrine. We have stopped stressing the importance of love and the other doctrines in the Bible. We’re failing to teach right from wrong. The worse thing is that we’ve forgotten how we should behave and live. He said that you can’t teach it if you don’t live it. Rev. Arnett mentioned how he was taught to respect the church and the elders. We need more of that today because morals have been forgotten. He quoted Proverbs 22:6 and followed up by asking, “How about you?” What are you doing with your life? He concluded by telling us to take the time to teach our children the right way.

The deacons, led by Bro. Winfred Simpson and the Communion and Feetwashing Committee, had charge of the communion service and washing of the saints’ feet. There were approximately 46 that took part in the service. After several songs and spirit-filled testimonies, we all sang a song and went out.

You can’t be a Christian without the Holy Ghost. We may not be able to see God, but we can see the manifestation of Him. Rev. Wiggington preached that God had a mission. He created man, woman, and other living things to help mankind live. We need to get right with God so that God can use us to continue His mission. There is plenty of mission work, but not enough people to carry out the work. “Live for the Lord – not for people.” He questioned us, “What would have happened if Noah didn’t carry out God’s mission?” He stated that mission work starts at home and then goes abroad. The Lord has a mission for us, but it’s up to us to accept it. If we don’t take the mission, then we go against God. He concluded by saying, “Just mind God.”

Bro. Paul Shofner prayed the blessing over the offering for missions. Bro. Arnold Sprowles of Zion, accompanied by Bro. Keith Brown of Okolona, came forward to lead the congregation in singing “Are You Washed In The Blood.” The mission offering was $179.00.

CONDITION COMMITTEE

WE, THE CONDITION COMMITTEE, FEEL OUR ASSOCIATION AS A WHOLE NEEDS TO GROW MORE SPIRITUAL. WE ENCOURAGE OUR EXISTING MEMBERS TO TAKE A MORE ACTIVE PART IN THEIR CHURCHES AND OUR ASSOCIATION. WE WANT TO ENCOURAGE OUR YOUTH AND ADULTS TO PARTICIPATE IN ALL THE FUNCTIONS OF THE ASSOCIATION. WE NEED TO PRAY THAT GOD WOULD SEND US MORE PREACHERS, DEACONS, AND LAY PEOPLE THAT WOULD BE WILLING TO WORK IN THE ASSOCIATION. WE SHOULD BE MORE PRAYERFUL FOR EACH OTHER. WE FEEL THIS WOULD IMPROVE THE CONDITION OF OUR ASSOCIATION.

Zion and Calvary Hill

RESOLUTIONS COMMITTEE

AS MEMBERS OF THE RESOLUTION COMMITTEE, WE RESOLVE TO DAILY EXPRESS OUR CHRISTIAN LOVE AND CONCERN FOR THOSE WITH WHOM WE MAY COME IN CONTACT WITH, AND TO SET THE EXAMPLE BY WHICH THOSE WATCHING OUR LIVES MIGHT BE DRAWN TO OUR LORD AND SAVIOR. WE RESOLVE TO NOT ONLY TAKE AN ACTIVE PART IN OUR INDIVIDUAL CHURCHES AND ASSOCIATION, BUT TO ENCOURAGE OTHERS OF ALL AGES TO GET INVOLVED. WE ENCOURAGE THE STUDY OF THE ENTIRE BIBLE SO THAT WE MAY KNOW AND BE PREPARED TO OBEY THE WILL OF OUR LORD.

We resolve that the Association Clerk print the Association Minutes and programs for next year with the quantities to be left to his discretion and that the clerk be paid $450.00 and assistant clerk $250.00 for their services. We also resolve that the treasurer be paid $250.00. We also resolve that this Association meet the General Association annually with letter and delegates and that we send $375.00 Minute money.

We resolve to encourage the churches of our Association to send donations to our Kitchen Fund to ensure plenty of food for our Association and guests.

Louisville, Otter Creek, and Sand Lick

TEMPERANCE COMMITTEE

“AND EVERY MAN THAT STRIVETH FOR THE MASTERY IS TEMPERATE IN ALL THINGS. NOW THEY DO IT TO OBTAIN A CORRUPTIBLE CROWN; BUT WE AN INCORRUPTIBLE.” (I COR. 9:25) TO BE TEMPERATE IS TO USE SELF CONTROL THROUGH MODERATION AND/OR ABSTINENCE.

Thus Christians must abstain from:

1. Any consumption of alcoholic beverages.

2. All sexual relationships outside the sanctity of marriage. Therefore, fornication and adultery are sinful behavior before God.

3. Homosexuality, in or outside of marriage, as it is sinful before God.

4. Evil communication, filthy language, gossip, speaking evil of one another, or slandering one another. These are sin and can be very destructive as well as bringing condemnation of oneself.

5. Any participation in gambling (buying chances, playing the lottery, casinos, etc.) as they are sinful before God.

The Bible also teaches us to respect the sanctity of human life, both of the born and the unborn. Thus, all euthanasia or mercy killing is biblically forbidden. Jesus said, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in Heaven.” (Romans 13:14, I Cor. 15:33, I Cor. 9:25-27, Titus 2:11-12, Matthew 5:16)

ASSOCIATION REVIVAL COMMITTEE

THE REVIVAL COMMITTEE OF 2002 REPORTS THAT WE ENJOYED A GOOD REVIVAL WITH EVIDENCE OF THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD FELT BY ALL THOSE IN ATTENDANCE. REV. JASON DAVIDSON, A YOUNG PREACHER FROM THIS ASSOCIATION, PREACHED SPIRIT-FILLED MESSAGES EACH NIGHT.

This committee would like to encourage the people of the Association to attend these revival services, for the support of the Nolynn Association, as well as for your own growth in the Spirit.

Our total offerings amounted to $950.00, out of which the evangelist was paid $475.00. Attendance was approximately 504 with an average of 72 people in attendance each night.

2002 STANDING COMMITTEE REPORT (PARTIAL)

THE STANDING COMMITTEE MET AT THE NOLYNN ASSOCIATION OF SEPARATE BAPTIST CAMPGROUND ON AUGUST 17, 2002 AT 3:30 PM TO BEGIN TO PREPARE OUR REPORT. THERE WERE 7 MEMBERS PRESENT AT THIS MEETING.

After opening with prayer led by Bro. Bobby Warren, Bro. Charles Jordan, Sr. was elected as clerk for this meeting.

The following recommendations were made:

1. We recommend that the Association’s clerk be instructed to update our incorporation papers and then keep them updated annually with any dues to be paid by the Association.

2. We recommend that Article (2) of the Permanent Rules Adopted to Govern This Body, be changed to include the following phrase: “including updating the Association’s incorporation papers (annually)”.

3. We recommend that funds from the Paving Fund be used for the following:

a) That $2,665.00 be used to reimburse the Dorm Fund for the concrete handicapped parking pad which was completed this summer.

b) That bids be taken on sealing the existing driveway to be paid for with these funds.

c) That some of the money be used to spread a new layer of gravel on the parking lot at the discretion of the campground trustees.

4. We recommend that all the churches of the Nolynn Association be urged to give an annual donation to the kitchen treasurer (currently Barbara Hale) for the purchase of food for the Association. Any remaining balance should be retained for the future kitchen needs. However, if there are insufficient funds needed to pay for the food, the Association treasurer is to make up the difference.

There being no other business, we were dismissed by prayer led by Bro. Russell Parrish.

HOME MISSION FUND COMMITTEE

THE HOME MISSION FUND HAS BEEN SUPPORTING THE PRESBYTERY BOARD, AS THEY TRAVEL TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS FOR THE NOLYNN ASSOCIATION. WE STILL ONLY HAVE THREE CHURCHES ACTIVELY SUPPORTING THE HOME MISSION FUND, AS USUAL WE NEED MORE CHURCHES TO GET INVOLVED FINANCIALLY AND NOT LEAVE IT UP TO JUST THREE CHURCHES.

NOLYNN YOUTH CAMP BOARD REPORT - 2002

THE YOUTH BOARD WOULD LIKE TO REPORT ANOTHER GREAT YOUTH CAMP THIS YEAR. THE NEXT CAMP WILL BE JUNE 15-20, 2003. MAKE YOUR PLANS EARLY TO BE AVAILABLE TO HELP IN THE CAMP. GOD NEEDS ADULTS WHO ARE WILLING TO LEAD OUR YOUNG PEOPLE.

We praise God for the souls that were saved and those who re-dedicated their lives to the Lord. We would like to thank Bro. Jim Tharpe, our camp evangelist, for his spirit-filled messages and the love he shows to everyone. He always has a willing heart to help in any way that is needed. Praise God for preachers like him!

We would like to extend our thanks to all the young people who came to this year’s camp. You are the reason we strive for a camp that will bring us all closer to God and to each other. We look forward to seeing you next year!

We want to thank all the adult workers, in whatever capacity you served, for sacrificing your time for camp. The association should be proud, as we are, that so many young adults also volunteered to come and help in the camp. Many of you gave up vacation time and some of you took time-off without pay! How great is your love of Christ and the young people who so desperately need Him! Thank you for giving to the Lord. No doubt, lives are changed because you care.

Our gratitude also goes to all the churches that financially support the youth camp. Your help makes possible the many phases of the camp. We also want to thank the camp trustees for providing the new building, which will allow us to have actual classrooms for Bible school!

The board decided unanimously to make the following changes to the youth camp dress code effective for 2003. All dresses and skirts are to be knee-length or longer. No spaghetti straps, low-cut tops, or bare middles will be allowed. Recreation clothes may include pants below the knee or longer – no shorts will be allowed. We want to encourage more participation by our churches for the next camp. Pray for your camp board as we strive to be led by the Holy Spirit and to reach out to young people on behalf of the association. May God bless you all!

MINISTERS AND DEACONS MEETING REPORT

THE ANNUAL MINISTERS AND DEACONS MEETING WAS HELD AUGUST 17, 2002 AT 7:30 PM. A TOTAL OF 8 MINISTERS, 16 DEACONS, AND 7 WIVES WERE PRESENT. THE SERVICE WAS OPENED WITH SINGING, LED BY BRO. HERBERT MARTIN. THE PIANIST WAS BRO. RICK GOFF. OUR MODERATOR, REV. JIM GOFF, WELCOMED EVERYONE. AN ALTAR OF PRAYER FOLLOWED. BRO. JIM READ PSALMS 133. THE FLOOR WAS OPENED FOR BUSINESS. BRO. CHARLES JORDAN GAVE A PARTIAL REPORT OF THE STANDING COMMITTEE.

1. A motion to recommend was made by Rev. Melvin Underwood and seconded by Bro. Rick Goff, that a committee be appointed to study the existing program of our Association. To modify it to allow time for a discussion of some type among the churches, that would uplift and promote our denomination. The purpose of this is to create an enthusiastic and exciting spirit at the Association Meeting that could (and would) be carried back through the delegates to their individual churches. We would suggest that the Memorial Sermon of the existing program be deleted and replaced with an expanded discussion session and an uplifting sermon on how to build membership in our churches. This committee shall give a report of their recommendations at the 2003 session of the Association.

2. A motion to recommend by Bro. Charles Jordan, seconded by Bro. Noah Vance, that a committee be appointed to look into the possibility of renting out our Campground and report back at the 2003 Association.

There being no further business, the service was dismissed.

SBMI REPORT

FROM THE LETTER I SENT OUT EARLIER THIS YEAR, YOU KNOW THAT BRO. STEVE AND SIS. RHONDA PALMER HAVE RETURNED TO THE STATES, AFTER ABOUT A FIVE AND A HALF MONTHS STAY IN THE IVORY COAST. I WAS DISAPPOINTED TO HEAR THIS BECAUSE HE TOLD ME LAST SEPTEMBER, IT WOULD BE A THREE YEAR TOUR. THE SBMI BOARD WASN’T INFORMED OF HIS INTENTIONS TO RETURN. I STILL DON’T KNOW ALL THE REASONS WHY. HIS LETTER TO SBMI BOARD STATES THAT THE DECISION TO COME HOME WAS DUE TO MONETARY INSUFFICIENCY. I CALLED THE TREASURER OF SBMI, BRO. JIMMY MCGAHA, AND ASKED HIM HAD SBMI MISSED ANY MONTHLY PAYMENTS. BRO. JIMMY SAID WE HAD NOT MISSED ANY MONTHLY PAYMENTS TO BRO. STEVE. SO I DON’T UNDERSTAND HIM COMING HOME FOR MONETARY REASONS, WHEN WE HAVE NOT MISSED PAYING HIM $3000.00 EACH MONTH.

As to any future missionary work by Bro. Steve and Sis. Rhonda, I feel, as your SBMI representative, that there are important questions that have to be answered, before any future support could be considered.

The truck that was originally to be sent to Africa has been sold. If you have given money to the truck fund and wish to get it back, please contact me. All unclaimed money will be put in a special fund.

If your church needs financial help, SBMI can give grants or loans to churches that qualify. See me for an application.

We want to thank everyone for their contributions this year and want to encourage all of our churches to continue to give to SBMI. You can designate your money to Foreign or Home Missions or both. We need everyone’s help to get the gospel out at home and to the world.

Yours in Christ,

Rev. Melvin R. Underwood

TRUSTEE REPORT

WE, YOUR TRUSTEE COMMITTEE, ARE PLEASED TO SUBMIT THIS REPORT FOR THE ASSOCIATION YEAR 2002. AS YOU CAN SEE, IT HAS BEEN A WONDERFUL YEAR WITH MUCH ACCOMPLISHED, AND FOR THIS, WE GIVE PRAISE TO THE LORD. WE HAVE HAD NUMEROUS MEETINGS THIS YEAR TO ACCOMPLISH OUR WORK AS WELL AS SEVERAL ASSOCIATION WIDE WORK DAYS. WE WANT TO THANK BRO. DAVID MCKINNEY FOR ALL OF HIS HARD WORK ON THESE PROJECTS. ALSO, A SPECIAL THANKS GOES OUT TO BRO. PORTER WHITE WHO WAS INJURED DURING ONE OF THE WORK DAYS AND IS STILL RECOVERING FROM HIS INJURIES AT THIS TIME.

We have completed renovations of the bathhouse, installed new partitions in the sanctuary restrooms, repaired and/or replaced defective sanctuary windows, installed a concrete handicapped parking pad, tore down the old pump house, filled in the old unused cistern, and completed the long hoped-for multipurpose addition to the sanctuary. I made 30 trips to the campground and 45 calls to the trustees’ contractor.

While this has been an eventful year, there is still much to be done. We need to paint the exterior of the bathhouse, get the driveway sealed before winter, and most of all, we need to paint the exterior of the sanctuary to match the new addition. With all of this to do, there are always the general maintenance items that still have to be taken care of.

Brothers and Sisters, we desire your prayers to help us accomplish all the work that needs to be done on our campground. We appreciate all of your generous donations and ask that you continue to give as the Lord leads you. It is our belief that the Lord’s house should be taken care of as well, or even better, than our own personal home would be. Please pray that we, your trustee committee, are able to accomplish this goal.

MINISTER REPORTS

Rev. Ronda Arnett

I have had the pastoral care of Zion Church this year and have been called back for the coming year. It’s always good to come to the association to see all my Brothers and Sisters in Christ. Have had a good year in the Lord. Pray for us that we might be closer to the Lord in the coming year.

Rev. Troy Arnett

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ: Since our last Association, I have had a very good year in the Lord. I have had the opportunity to preach in several of our churches this past year. I have served as DSSS for the Southern Section this past year, and was put back in for the upcoming year. Remember me in your prayers that I may be found doing the Lord’s will. Your Brother in Christ.

Rev. John L. Davidson

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ: Since our last Association, I’ve preached two revivals, had two funerals, and been in many great services. We’re enjoying being in service with the good people at the Freedom Church. God is so good. We give Him praise. Pray for us. Your Brother in Christ.

Rev. Gerald Gardner

I have had the pastoral care of Mt. Zion Church for past year and have been called back for incoming year. Please remember us in your prayers. Your Brother in Christ.

Rev. Jim Goff

We are happy to meet each one of you again with letter a the one hundred and eighty-third Association. We have had another good year at Free Union Church, and they have called us to pastor again for another year. We still see a great need for people to be saved and that is our goal for the coming year. Please continue to pray for us and we will not fail to pray for all of you. We love you all very much. Your Brother in Christ.

Rev. Brandon Goodin

Greetings to all. It’s been a very busy year for my family and myself both in the ministry and in our personal lives. In May, due to a work relocation, I resigned as pastor of the Sand Lick Church and briefly moved to North Carolina. Upon return, I accepted the call to pastor the Pleasant Ridge Church where I’m currently in place. It’s good to be home. May God bless.

Rev. Robert Gosser

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, we are happy to greet you at another association. We praise the Lord for all He has done for us and the many blessings that He has let come our way. Thankful for His wonderful grace and healing power. I was anointed to preach a little last Sunday. Looking forward to doing more for Him through His grace and leadership. Thanks so much for your prayers and support. May God bless you. Yours in Christ.

Rev. James Hale

Greetings to the Nolynn Association: I have had the pastoral care of Calvary Hill Church. God has richly blessed us this year. I have been called for another year to Calvary Hill. This has been a busy year. I praise the Lord for our unity revival. It brings our churches closer together. I have preached one revival and baptized four. I have preached six funerals and assisted in one. I am a member of the Youth Board and the chairman of the Trustee Board. With many requests to start a rebuild program! As chairman of Board, I called for a meeting and with God’s help we had great results achieved. I thank God for all the blessings that He gave us this year at the campground. Yours in Christ.

Rev. Charlie Houk

Greetings to the 2002 Associational meeting. We are thankful once again for this opportunity to meet with you. During the past year, we have had the pastoral care of the Oak Grove Church where we have been called back as pastor for one more year. We have helped in one wedding and helped in one funeral. Pray for our family as we continue to do the work of the Lord during these uncertain times. Your Brother in Christ.

Rev. Nolan Howell

To the Nolynn Association, since our last Association I have had the pastoral care of the Faith Church this year and have been called back another year. Pray for us that God’s will be done in our lives as we continue to minister the gospel of Jesus Christ. Your Brother in Christ.

Rev. James A. Huff

To the Nolynn Association, I have pastured the True Gospel Church the past year and have been called back for the coming year. Pray for us that good works will come of it.

Rev. Clyde Lindsey

Rev. Clyde Lindsey has pastured the Coral Ridge Separate Baptist Church the past year, but because of seriously ill health, has been confined to his home most of the time, and has often been hospitalized. He remains in our thoughts and prayers, and it is our fervent desire that he will, through the grace of God, make a full recovery. As he is unable to personally write his report at this time, we hope that this report will suffice. (Signed Bro. Charles E. Jordan, Deacon and Clerk)

Rev. Gary McGaha

Greetings to our Brothers and Sisters in Christ. We are glad to attend and meet this body of 183rd Nolynn Association. The Lord has blessed us this year. We have witnessed to many and seen three souls saved and baptized. We gave our final farewells to one by conducting their funeral.

We have over came many obstacles with the help of our Lord, without what would we do. Pray for us, and we will for you.

This year, we encourage everyone to look unto the Lord for all things. Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and He shall bring it to pass (Psalm 37:5). Yours in Christ.

Rev. John A. Perkins

Since our last association, I have had the privilege of preaching a weekend revival at Munfordville Separate Baptist Church and an eight-day revival at Echo Church. I have preached at a few different churches, and have seen 4 saved this year. I presently have the pastoral care of Union, and have been called back for the following year. I have conducted 1 funeral and assisted in 1 as well. Please pray that we will stay in the center of the Lord’s will in the following year.

Rev. Mike Perkins

I have had the pastoral care of the Okolona Separate Baptist Church this past year and have been called back for this coming year. It has been a great year in the Lord as our church has continued to grow at a steady pace in number and in the Spirit. The Okolona Church has added a new baptistery this past year, and I had the wonderful privilege to baptize three new converts the first Sunday after it was finished.

This past year, I baptized a total of five, conducted one funeral, helped in one revival, married one couple, and assisted in the wedding of my daughter – Jennifer – to a fine young Christian man – Emery Frye.

Please pray for the Okolona Church, my family, and me as we continue in the work of the Lord.

Your Brother In Christ.

Rev. Verlin Perry

Brothers and Sisters of the Nolynn Association, “Greetings”. I have had the pastoral care of the Munfordville Church for the past year and called for another year. God has blessed all at Munfordville, especially myself. Pray for my family, Wanda, Laura, and me that God would give us strength to continue His work.

Rev. Keith Sullivan

I have pastored the Little Barren Church this past year and have been called back to pastor the church another year. I have served on the Presbytery Board this past year. Your Brother in Christ.

Rev. Eudell Stilts

Brothers and Sisters in Christ, we are glad to meet with you again this year. We have pastored Mt. Salem Church this year and have been called back for another year. I have married some, baptized one, and have preached some revivals in our association, and some in South Kentucky and one in the Missionary Baptist Church.

Rev. Melvin R. Underwood

I have had the pastoral care of the Friendship Church this year and have been called as pastor for the incoming year. With the help of the Lord, I have preached one revival and helped in one and baptized four. I have served on the Presbytery Board and as SBMI representative for the Nolynn Association. Pray for me and Dianna in our work for the Lord.

Rev. Thomas L. Wallace

Since our last Association, I haven’t been able to preach this last year. We have visited a lot of our churches. I have enjoyed the presence of God. We ask everyone to pray for us. Your Brother In Christ.

Article I

The Nolynn Association of Separate Baptist in Christ of Kentucky is the governing body of all Separate Baptist churches within this Association.

Article II

This Association shall meet each year on the Friday before the 3rd Saturday in September at the Nolynn Association Campground, subject to change only by assembly vote. Special meetings may be called by the Association at any time it is deemed necessary.

Article III

All ordained Separate Baptist ministers and deacons of the churches in this Association are standing members of the Association. Each church shall send to the annual assembly seven Separate Baptist lay members as delegates and two Separate Baptist lay members as alternate delegates. Each member at the Association has a vote. By majority vote, the Association will adopt and change the type rules of order desired.

Article IV

The Association shall have a moderator, an assistant moderator, a clerk, and a treasurer. Each shall be elected by the Association and each shall serve for a period of one year or until their successors are elected.

Article V

The moderator shall select committees at any time to assist in the administration of any affairs concerning the Association and any of the churches.

Article VI

This Association shall have a Presbytery Board composed of three ordained ministers of the Nolynn Association of Separate Baptist. They shall serve three year terms, one expiring each year. The third-year member shall serve as chairman. Also, the Presbytery shall have two alternate members serving two-year terms, one elected each year. Members of this Board are subject to dismissal by the Association only, or by resignation.

In case of sickness or death, or where a candidate is closely related to a regular member, or where prejudice or partiality is involved, the regular member must step aside and the first alternate will serve in his place. If a vacancy exists, the first alternate shall become a regular member.

Article VII

All ministers and deacons shall be ordained by the Presbytery Board. The manner in which this shall be performed is as follows:

a) Any person selected by the church to become a deacon of that church shall first present said person to the Presbytery Board so that they along with any officials of the church, may investigate said person and pass on his qualifications to become a deacon. After this, such person shall serve in this position with the church as an apprentice for a period of twelve months. Upon expiration of the apprenticeship and if such person has been proven to be qualified for and worthy of the position, the Presbytery shall ordain such person and grant him license. This shall be by unanimous vote only. If at anytime the church, the Presbytery, or the Association believes said person shall be unqualified for or unworthy of this position, this person shall be investigated by and heard by the Board. If found by the Presbytery to be unqualified for and no longer worthy of this position, the deacon shall be disordained by the Presbytery and this shall be reported to the Association.

b) Any person selected by the church as one called by God to the office of a minister shall be presented to the Presbytery Board, and the Board, along with the officials of the church, shall hear said person and investigate said person for the purpose of ascertaining the fitness and ability of such person to become a Separate Baptist minister. If approved for apprenticeship, such person shall serve a term of twenty-four months as an apprentice with a church in this Association. Upon expiration of the apprenticeship and having proven qualified and worthy of the office of minister and fully indoctrinated as to the doctrines of the Separate Baptist faith, such person shall be ordained as a Separate Baptist minister by the Presbytery Board and license granted by the Board. A card will be presented at such time to such person and shall be reissued yearly by the Board. The ordaining of all ministers by the Board shall be by unanimous vote. If at any time it is believed by the church or the Presbytery or the Association that any minister has been unqualified for or unworthy of the office of a Separate Baptist minister, then said minister shall be presented to, heard by, and investigated by the Presbytery Board. If found by the Presbytery Board to be unworthy of this position, the credentials of said person shall be suspended by the Board.

c) No minister shall pastor a Separate Baptist church in this Association unless such person is a fully ordained minister of the Separate Baptist in Christ.

d) Any minister that leaves the Separate Baptists and joins another denomination of churches shall no longer be considered an ordained Separate Baptist minister. If such event does take place and such person desires to come back and join the Separate Baptist as a minister, then such person cannot pastor a Separate Baptist as a minister unless such person is re-ordained by the Presbytery Board.

e) All deacons and ministers are required to live and conduct themselves in a Christian manner and be in harmony with the Association at all times. The standard of conduct and doctrines of the Separate Baptists required of Separate Baptist ministers and deacons shall be determined by the Presbytery at all times.

f) All ordained ministers are accountable to the Association. In order to know what our ministers are doing, at the annual Association, all ordained ministers will present or send a written report to the Association concerning his ministry for the past year. If the minister is sick or there is a death in the family, he would have thirty days to notify the Chairman of the Presbytery as to the reason for failing to report to the Association. The Presbytery Board will be responsible for giving the name of those who failed to report to the clerk. The clerk would then delete those names from the Minute Book, and their card will be withheld. Steps to have the name of the minister restored in the Minute Book and to receive a card again are as follows:

1) The clerk from said minister’s church would have to notify the Chairman of the Presbytery Board by letter asking the Board to meet with the church officials and said minister to investigate him.

2) If found by the Board that the said minister shows remorse and wishes to be in good standing again, then the Presbytery Board will recommend his name be restored in the Minute Book at the next Association along with his card being reissued.

Those ministers that are sick and/or elderly and unable to preach will be listed in the Minute Book under the heading of “Honorably Inactive”.

g) No person shall be ordained who has more than one living wife or whose wife has more than one living husband (I Tim 3:2-12). Therefore, all ordained ministers shall refrain from performing marriage ceremonies between two individuals of the same sex and people who have a living mate (Luke 16:17,18; Gen 2:24; Rom 1:26-32; I Cor 3:10,11).

Article VIII

When the Presbytery Board has been invited by the church, the Presbytery has the right and power (ecclesiastical) to investigate any and all matters coming up in or between any churches or the personnel of any church or churches that might affect the doctrines of the Separate Baptist faith and has the full power to deal with any problems or disputes of any nature as they deem proper.

Article IX

Any persons who desire to unite and form a church under the faith and doctrines of the Separate Baptists shall present themselves or their representatives to the Presbytery Board for the purpose of a full understanding of the orthodox belief of the Separate Baptists. After a letter and messengers to the Association, the moderator shall appoint a committee of three or more to meet with said church to further investigate the orthodox doctrine of the church. If the committee approves in their report the admission of the church into the Association, then same shall be voted upon by the Association, and if the vote is favorable, they shall be in full fellowship.

Article X

If the time should come that a church desires to withdraw from the Association and not be governed by same, the reason for same shall be presented to each and every member of the church. The church shall then meet and vote, and if a majority of them desire to withdraw, then they shall prepare a letter and meet the Association at the regular meeting or a special called meeting. The church shall present their letter of aggrievements to the Association, and the Association shall appoint a committee of three or more to meet with the church and try to reconcile their aggrievements. If no reconciliation is made, then the matter will be presented to the Association, and the church will then receive a letter of dismissal.

Article XI

All officers of this Association shall be elected by nomination and secret ballot.

Article XII

All amendments to this Constitution shall be by 2/3 vote of the delegates to the Association.
