Community Engagement Activities 1. Educational Forum. Event for students completing associate’s or BSN degree programs to address gaps in readiness for practice.SUBCOMMITTEE REPORT Carole Stacy reported that Launch Your Nursing Career: Tips and Strategies to Get That First Nursing Job is scheduled for March 28, 9:00 am-2:30 pm at MSUFCU, 4825 Mt. Hope Road, East Lansing. Based on student feedback, this year’s forum will include a panel of new graduates discussing navigating their first year on the job. Students would also like time to network with recent graduates at lunch. Sponsors for breakfast and lunch are being sought, with the event flyer being released once sponsors are secured. Carol presented a draft agenda with the following topics:Getting that First Job: Resume and Interviewing Tips – Sparrow?Panel: Behavioral Health, LTC, Travel Nursing – R. Rodway, A. Benjamin, need Travel Nursing panelistHealth Equity/Unconscious Bias – MPHI? K. Brittain?Panel: New Graduates Navigating the First Year – need 3-4 panelistsYou Can Walk the Walk but Can You Talk to the Doc? – C. WarrenGenerational Communication – K. Kessler?Advocacy and Professionalism – C. StacyDiscussion: Is it possible to add a Self-Care/Avoiding Burnout session to the agenda? Carole will adjust the agenda to include a 15 minute time slot for this topic.Can the upcoming violence and abuse prevention conference be highlighted? NADONA and ANA will sponsor door prizes for attendees. Important to have forum presenters of diverse backgrounds.8 recent graduates (one at each table) are needed for the networking lunch. The 3-4 panelists from the Navigating the First Year Panel will be included. Next Steps:Carole Stacy and other members will report back on sponsors, finalized presenters, and event flyer.2. Millennial Nurses Speakers Bureau. The Speakers Bureau is available to schedule presentations and plans to reach out to representatives from LCC, Davenport, and MSU regarding scheduling speaking engagements at the three schools. Based on feedback from nursing students, the Speakers Bureau will also target its presentations to lower level nursing students as well as those nearing graduation. The Speakers Bureau will look into the possibility of presenting remotely via video conference. Incorporating Health Equity and Whole Person Care in CACNN Activities/OrganizationsDiscussion – What would we like to learn from area Chief Nursing Officers and Nurse Educators regarding what their organizations are doing related to health equity and whole person care?It might be easier for nursing leadership to respond to questions via a short survey.What information would we like to gather via the survey?Ask questions about what organizations are doing to address health disparities and what resources they might need to address the issue. Is there something keeping them from moving forward with addressing this?Also ask colleges/universities what they are doing.Regarding diversity, bias and inclusion, what are resources that people have access to? Do they know what organization(s) may help with each particular issue? What social determinants of health are affecting organization’s clients? Issues can vary depending on location.Use CAHA’s definition of whole person care.Is it possible to use State of Michigan or Michigan Organization of Nurse Leaders lists for contact information for the survey?Member Announcements Holt Senior Care & Rehab Center is currently accepting applications for an Admissions Nurse. COMON (Coalition of Michigan Organizations of Nursing) is sponsoring a conference on violence in the workplace on August 6 in Livonia.ANA-MI will sponsor a Leadership Academy, with classes held for 6 days over 6 months. Through a grant focusing on dementia care, pilot programs are underway. The train-the-trainer programs are geared towards nurses, CNAs, and housekeeping, activity and dietary staff. Over 3 years, staff in 170 facilities will be trained.
