I. Job Title: Mental Health Nurse

V. General Summary:

The primary role of the Mental Health Clinic Nurse is to provide nursing assessments to all clients and to communicate results to the client and, when necessary, to the appropriate staff.

VI. Qualifications:

A. Current Georgia Licensure at the RN Level.

B. Candidates shall be no younger than 21 years of age.

C. The position requires that candidates must hold or obtain a valid Georgia Driver’s License and be approved through the Georgia DHR Criminal Records Check.

D. You must have the ability to work well with all agency staff, teachers, families, and caseworkers to meet the needs of a client in care.

E. Must meet and maintain educational requirements as required for on-going licensure.

VIII. Essential Functions:

A. Complete the initial nursing assessment to all ASAM Level .05 and Level I prior to first group for DATEP clients and as indicated for mental health clinic clients.

B. Screen for TB, RPR, HIV, alcohol and drugs, obtain a comprehensive medical history, allergies, and current medications with consumer consent as appropriate for clients in the DATEP program.

C. Provide ongoing nursing assessments as ordered by physician and outlined in client’s Individualized Resiliency Plan

D. Provide appropriate follow-up by providing the client with results and referrals for counseling/medical intervention when appropriate.

E. Comply with State reporting requirements for communicable diseases.

F. Maintain appropriate written consent and medical documents within the client medical chart.

G. Obtain appropriate Authorization for Release of Information in compliance with the HIPAA/CFR 42 Federal Guidelines.

H. Administering and recording drug/alcohol screens and communicating results with counselors on duty.

I. Responsible for all other duties as assigned by his/her supervisor.

X. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Physical demand and work environment are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Walking, talking hearing using hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. Ability to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 50 pounds and be able to perform Mindset restraints. This position requires moderate to intense visual concentration, reading, using a computer and reviewing patient charts. This position may have contact with MCFS staff, residents, families, and vendors/suppliers requiring excellent communication and problem-solving skills and professional demeanor.
