TEMPORARY LEARNING PLAN WAIVER INFORMATION 8/30/21

On Friday Commissioner Schwinn announced that the Tennessee Department of Education will be providing a waiver option which allows school districts to apply for temporary remote instruction at the classroom or school level. Approved waivers would provide up to a seven day shift to remote learning when the number of staff and/or student absences makes it impossible to continue in-person learning. This will now allow LSSD the flexibility to request relief rather than utilize stockpile/inclement weather days when situations warrant a separation period. In light of the Commissioner's announcement, our schools have begun the process of preparing a temporary remote learning plan which would be enacted should the need for remote learning arise. The District will utilize the stockpile day already scheduled for this Friday to finalize plans and have them ready to roll out in the event of a temporary change in status. Please watch for upcoming communication from your teacher and your school. You will be provided with information on staying connected if a remote learning plan is enacted. Your child's teacher will provide learning opportunities and material throughout the remote status. Additional digital learning resources will be located on the LSSD website under the Family Resources tab to help students stay engaged.
