Job title:Equality and Diversity AdviserPost number:HR5049Reports to: Equality and Diversity ManagerDepartment/School:Human ResourcesLocation:MoulsecoombGrade:Grade 7Purpose of the roleThe post is one of two Equality and Diversity Adviser roles with responsibility for supporting achievement of the university’s institutional Equality Objectives. In particular the post holder will play a leading role in enabling the university to meet its strategic equalities aims through, for example:Project managing work on equality charters and benchmarks Identifying and supporting implementation of strategies and activities for addressing key equalities issues at the universityLeading activities to increase awareness and engagement on key equalities issues Carrying out training needs’ analysis and identifying, implementing and evaluating training and development activities Working in partinership with colleagues across the university, including the University Executive Board, senior managers, human resources colleagues, staff equality network groups, student-facing staff, the students’ union and other internal and external colleagues.The role is based within the Human Resources Department and its primary focus is on staff equalities, however it also includes a significant element of multi-function and partnership working to ensure coordination of staff- and student- focussed equalities work across the university. Main areas of responsibility:Project manage and produce institutional submissions to national equality charters and benchmarks to support achievement of the university’s strategic aims and objectives in relation to these (e.g. Race Equality Charter, Disability Confident).Develop and coordinate implementation of long-term institutional action plans for achieving relevant charters/benchmarks and other equalities work, in liaison with senior managers and others as appropriate.Support school and departmental level activity on the equality charters, including advising on local implementation of institutional action plans.Identify key priorities and strategies for increasing engagement and awareness on equalities issues internally and externally, working in partnership with colleagues in the University Executive Board, staff equality network groups, the Students’ Union, external partners and other teams and departments as appropriate.Design and deliver briefings, presentations, communications and other activities for enhancing engagement and awareness on equalities issues. Carry out training needs’ analysis, procure and/or design and deliver staff training and development and evaluate training activities, with a view to informing and enhancing the ongoing development of equalities training. Design, conduct and report on staff and student consultations, focus groups and other activities for supporting self-assessment in relation to the equalities charters and equalities work more generally.Gather, analyse and report on detailed and complex equalities data for use in charters’ submissions, identify areas for improvement and work with colleagues in Human Resources and other departments as required to help address any gaps in the necessary data.Actively participate in relevant internal and external networks, meetings, activities and events with a view to sharing best practice and enhancing the profile of the university in relation to its equalities work.Provide expert advice and guidance on equalities matters to members of the University Executive Board, senior staff and other colleagues across the university.
