This is a brief description of the International Union for Advanced Decision Support (IUADS), University of Nebraska at Omaha.

Mission: To be a world wide organization operating as a hub for communication, cooperation and collaboration between researchers interested in advancing state-of-the-art, usability and practical value of information technology, methods and processes for the purpose of identifying, evaluating, and choosing options during decision-making and planning.

Purposes:

A. IUADS provides the Decision Support R&D community with a “home base” for researchers around the world which results in a mass assemblage of effort, energy, and competency that attracts attention for credibility, prestige, and funding

B. IUADS provides visionary guidance for research needed to support corporate decision makers. The R&D Vision Board produces an annual report (book) with these futuristic insights.

C. IUADS assembles a portfolio of software to support DSS teaching and research. IUADS will have a master license for all applications and copies will be available to IUADS researchers for no or nominal cost.

D. IUADS provides facilitation to obtain seed capital funding for projects that have potential for significant commercial value. The best research minds from around the world producing innovative and smart systems are combined with a network of corporate partners, venture capital firms, and angel investors to turn innovative ideas into successful commercial products.

E. IUADS hosts an annual conference where research affiliates present results of their research for critique and suggestions. There will be a publication of proceedings. Only IUADS affiliates are invited to present at this conference but it open for attendance by anyone interested in advanced Decision Support.

Figure 1 is a conceptual overview of the IUADS R&D space. IUADS affiliates are engaged in developing tools to support the needs of decision makers in their needs to quickly respond to problems by identifying solution options, evaluating options, choosing the best options, and market testing final options.

Emphasis is upon but not limited to multi person and multi criteria decision processes, human judgment or tacit data, and ubiquitous computing.

Figure 2 is a high level view of the overall IUADS organization. Each of the following sections refers to that exhibit.

The Policy Board: The Policy Board establishes operating policies and guidelines and annually reviews alignment. The board will consist of members selected from the following sources:

• UNO College of Information Science and Technology

• UNO Peter Kiewit Institute

• Center Researchers

R&D Vision Board: The R&D Vision Board is made up of this Board Chairman plus the Heads of the technology centers of competency. They review research progress and identify needs for additional and/or new research areas. IUADS publishes an annual report (book) covering the Boards views on what is needed in future R&D..

The Resource Board: This group is made up of Venture Capital investors, Angel investors, and potential strategic alliances. Researchers who are seeking funds prepare a business plan according to a standard business plan template provided by the Board. The Board evaluates each plan using a standard Internet survey template. These evaluations and any subsequent funding are between the Resource Board members and the business plan principals. The goal is to provide funding to selected R&D projects that have significant potential for commercialization. Resources can include space, money, equipment, labs and consulting advice. The head of this Board is _____ who is the Managing Partner at _______ venture capital firm.

The Business Advisory Board: IUADS projects are required to support the decision-making practices of those who make actual decisions. This Board of practicing executives will meet one day per year to review and critique IUADS progress towards that purpose.
