UNIT 2 STUDY SHEET

DECIMALS:

*ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION of DECIMALS:

-When you see subtraction use, KEEP CHANGE CHANGE

-When adding and one is positive and one is negative, SUBTRACT the smaller number from the larger number and take the sign of the bigger number

-Adding and SAME SIGN, add normally and keep the sign with the answer

*DIVISION of DECIMALS:

-look at the second number and move the decimal so it is a WHOLE number

-move the decimal of the first number the same number of times

-set up your division problem and solve!

*MULTIPLICATION of DECIMALS:

-pull out the decimals completely

-multiply normally

-see how many digits were behind decimals in the original problem and move the decimal that many places in the answer

FRACTIONS:

*ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION of FRACTIONS:

- must find a COMMON DENOMINATOR

- if there are any negatives, convert to improper fractions

- borrow from the whole number if needed

*MULTIPLYING FRACTIONS:

- convert to improper fractions

- cross cancel if possible, then multiply STRAIGHT ACROSS

*DIVIDING FRACTIONS:

- convert to improper fractions

- keep, change, FLIP

- cross cancel if possible, then multiply straight across
