? District disaster response is activated by the D.S. or Disaster Response Coordinator.

? Staging areas (see below for what this entails) shall be activated as required. The following

churches were selected due to their location and experience. Other churches could also be

used, especially if any of these churches were negatively affected by the disaster.

* Minden First UMC

* Mansfield First UMC

* Homer First UMC

* Grace Community UMC, Shreveport

Staging area churches coordinate recovery/relief as requested and as capable in their areas. A

staging area does not mean that the church is also a shelter or a place for recovery personnel to

billet.

? District office notifies all churches of situation through the grapevine. Local church disaster

response coordinators are asked to coordinate their church response with the nearest activated staging area.

? Office of Homeland Security and Red Cross shall be notified of staging area activation.

Local Church Disaster Response Coordinator The Disaster Response Coordinator (DRC) is an important position in the local church. During a disaster, the DRC should coordinate church responses and requests for support which are within their capabilities. The DRC should also be knowledgeable of skills and abilities of church members and resources in the local community. They should be part of a network of local coordinators working towards relief of those who are suffering and in need. The DRC should be trained in various aspects of disaster assistance and be able to train members in their local church. LA Conference Disaster information:
