“RISKLAND GAME - Let’s learn to prevent disasters ! Fun ways for kids to join in risk reduction”

Request for approval for adaptation, translation and printing

1. Introduction to Riskland Game

The United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction secretariat (UNISDR) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) are pleased to provide the text and artwork of the educational kit “Let’s learn to prevent disasters! Fun ways for kids to join in risk reduction”, for adaptation and translation processes in new languages and dialects, as appropriate, in order to promote and further raise awareness of disaster risk reduction within the Youth community.

The educational kit represents a major education material based on scientifically checked information and details that will provide children with a sound understanding and knowledge on disaster risk reduction measures, disasters and natural hazards as well as vulnerability concerns.

Organizations / Governments / schools are invited to accompany the game with drawings produced by a local artist to make it more culturally-friendly and relevant to kids from their respective geographical area. Alternatively, the original artwork or text may be changed to reflect specific local hazards, culture and conditions that will appear more familiar to the kids, thus facilitating their understanding of disaster risk reduction in a well known and recognizable environment. Even if the kit may already exist in a given language, a country or region may prefer to adjust the language and drawings to reflect local expressions or characters.

2. Modalities to obtain UNISDR and UNICEF’s authorization to adapt and translate the Game and Kit

To obtain UNISDR and UNICEF’s approval to adapt and translate original pictures, landscapes and characters into the relevant local language, dialect or cultural environment of the requesting Organization / Government, the following conditions must be filled:

• All reproductions of the educational kit should include UNISDR and UNICEF logos (available on the CD-ROM with the artwork).

• Logos of translating or adapting Organizations can be inserted upon UNISDR’s authorization. For alternative formats of the logos and requests to include logos of other participating organizations, please contact UNISDR.

• Please provide UNISDR with 5-10 copies of the new version to further promote and encourage inter-regional experience sharing and information exchange in disaster reduction.

For all enquiries and to request a copy of the CD-ROM comprising artwork and text for the kit, please contact or send this form to Christel Rose, UNISDR Geneva (Tel: + 41 22 917 83 55, Fax: + 41 22 917 89 83 or Email: rosec@) with the following information:
