POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

|POSITION: |LAW ENFORCEMENT ACADEMY DIRECTOR |

| | |

|PRIMARY LOCATION: |Georgia Piedmont Technical College Newton Campus, Covington GA |

|DESCRIPTION: |Under limited supervision, manages the day to day operations of the P.O.S.T. certified Law Enforcement Academy. Including |

| |scheduling of instruction for the Basic Mandate courses and Advanced classes. Reviews, updates, implements and revises |

| |curriculum to meet both college and P.O.S.T. standards. Prepares lesson plans, and oversees classroom and performance skills |

| |instruction for Law Enforcement Academy. Supervises faculty and staff within the program. Develops program and syllabi, goals |

| |and objectives. Stays updated on current trends and training procedures within the field of law enforcement. Processes |

| |student’s admission into the Academy pursuant to State law and P.O.S.T. standards as well as college criteria. Evaluates |

| |students' progress in attaining goals and objectives. Prepares and maintains all required documentation and administrative |

| |reports for both the college and the Peace Officer Standards and Training Council. Meets with students, staff members and other |

| |educators to discuss students' instructional programs and other issues. Evaluates students' progress in attaining goals and |

| |objectives. Ensures safety and security requirements are met in the training area. Meets with and coordinates with outside |

| |agencies regarding training and education needs. |

| |Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical materials, and/or governmental regulations; ability to |

| |write reports, business correspondence, and instructional materials; ability to effectively present information and respond to |

| |questions from students, managers, and the general public; ability to perform basic numeric calculations; ability to solve |

| |practical problems and deal with a variety of both concrete and abstract ideas. |

| |Must have and maintain a valid driver's license; maintain automobile insurance coverage; and have access to an automobile. |

| | |

| |Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen. The employee |

| |is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to operate instructional equipment and computers. The employee must |

| |frequently lift and/or move objects up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and |

| |the ability to adjust focus. |

| |Work Environment: While performing the duties of this position, the employee will travel by automobile and be exposed to |

| |changing weather conditions. The employee will be required to drive to various instructional facilities. |

|MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: | |

| |Bachelor Degree required. |

| |A bachelor degree from an accredited college or university “and” completed courses comparable with the curriculum taught *OR* |

| |experience/expertise in the area of curriculum taught. Faculty must be credentialed to satisfy all appropriate accrediting |

| |bodies for the courses assigned. |

| | |

| |Licensure (Certification), and in good standing, with the State of Georgia as a Peace Officer. |

| | |

| |NOTE: Unofficial Transcript must be provided at the time of interview. Official Transcript(s) required within 60 days of |

| |employment. |

| | |

| |Background screenings are conducted prior to employment. |

|PREFERRED | |

|QUALIFICATIONS: |P.O.S.T. Instructor certified. Must hold POST Instructor certification in two of the following Specialty Instructor |

| |certifications; Defensive Tactics, EVOC and/or Firearms. |

| | |

| |Must have a minimum of five years law enforcement training experience. |

| | |

| |Minimum of eight (8) years of experience as a Georgia Peace Officer within the past nine (9) years. |

| | |

| |Minimum of 1200 hours of documented POST training hours |

| | |

| |Senior Instructor certification preferred |

| | |

| |Experience in CALEA Administration preferred |

| | |

| |Experience in a College Law Enforcement Program |

| | |

| |Prior training experience in a Law Enforcement Academy setting |

| | |
