The participant scholars work with both a consultant and mentor to design and develop a mixed methods research grant, which becomes their platform through learning mixed methods.?Role: Program Evaluator NIH/NIMH Aikens (PI) 07/01/15 – 06/30/16Telemonitoring Enhanced Support for Depression Self-Management - SupplementThe goal of this study is to develop a telephone-based system called CarePartners to improve depression outcomes by training a family member or close friend to support the depressed person from long distance. This project will determine whether CarePartners is more effective than usual care at improving the patient’s depression symptoms and other key outcomes.Role: Co-INIH/NHLBI 5R01HL123980-03, (PIs, Chan & Nallamothu) 09/01/14-05/31/19Hospital Enhancement Of Resuscitation Outcomes For In-Hospital Cardiac ArrestAs cardiac arrests occur frequently in U.S. hospitals, this study will enable us to understand why some hospitals are much better at preventing and treating this condition than the rest of the nation. By identifying the strategies used by these to-performing hospitals, our hope is to be able to share these 'best practices' with all hospitals so that fewer patients experience and die of cardiac arrests in the hospital setting.Role: Co-IMCube Chang (PI) 12/01/15 – 04/29/17 MyVoice: Real-Time Text Messaging Polling to Give Adolescents a VoiceThe goal of this study will be to use text messaging, a platform used by nearly all teens, to ask weekly open-ended and multiple-choice questions to allow adolescents to ‘speak’ to researchers in real-time using a method they are familiar with.? The topics of the questions will focus on health and current policy relevant events. The information collected from these text messages will be used to improve the effectiveness of interventions and directly inform salient policy decisions.?Role: Mixed Methods AnalystNIH/NIEHS 1R01HD086676-01 Silbergleit (PI) 09/17/15 – 08/31/18Central IRB Review Of Local Context In Emergency Research: Empirical Ethics StudyThis project focuses on understanding the review of local context by IRBs. The purpose is to explore, revise, and test measures of local context review of community consultation for this type of research, by local and central IRBs. Role: Co-I NIH OBSSR Supplement R01 MH09669910/1/2015-9/30/2016 Telemonitoring Enhanced Support for Depression of Self Management(PI: Ranak Trevedi)This study will deepen our understanding of how patients with depression and their loved ones work together to enhance the patient’s mood self-management, from the perspectives of the patients and family or friends who are involved in their care, both in-home and outside of home.
