Overview

The PharmD/MBA Dual Degree Program was developed for students who have already been enrolled in the University of Minnesota’s PharmD Program (Twin Cities or Duluth campuses). This program serves students who wish to earn an MBA degree as well as their PharmD. Students apply to the Full-Time MBA Program during the fall semester of their third year in the College of Pharmacy, but do not begin the MBA Program until the fourth year of this five-year dual degree program.

Both degrees are completed in five years. To complete in this time frame students will carry a very demanding course load. Students must be in good standing academically and not on probation. After acceptance into the dual degree program, students meet with both their PharmD and MBA advisors to be sure that their study plan satisfies both degree requirements. The dual degree PharmD/MBA enables students to complete the two degrees in a shorter time frame than they would if the degrees were pursued separately.

Application

To be considered for the PharmD/MBA Dual Degree Program, applicants must have a Bachelor’s Degree and apply to both the PharmD Program and the Full-Time MBA Program. Applications are available at:

Planning and Implementing the PharmD/MBA Dual Degree Program

Once students have been formally accepted into both programs, they should use the attached plan to plot their individual course of study. Students may use 12 credits of transfer work toward each degree. For the 12 credits transferred from the PharmD Program to the MBA Program, students must take the following courses: Phar 6234, Phar 6235, Phar 6236, Phar 6231 OR 6232, and one elective APPE in Management. Students should work with the Director of Student Services to determine the 12 credits of MBA coursework that will be transferred to the PharmD degree.

In planning a program of study, please note that:

1. Students must register and pay for three semesters as a Full-Time MBA student in the Carlson School of Management (CSOM)

2. Students must register and pay for seven semesters and two summer sessions in the College of Pharmacy

3. Students must have a minimum of 51 credits of MBA or CSOM designated coursework
