A MESSAGE from the PRESIDENT

Welcome to The University of Scranton and to Open House! Just a few short weeks ago, I was inaugurated as president of this wonderful University. This means that earlier this year, like you, I faced a decision about whether to make Scranton my new home. While we each have varied interests and goals, I can tell you what appealed to me the most: the University's commitment to a welcoming and inclusive community and to outstanding academics grown from our Catholic and Jesuit mission. When I applied to be Scranton's president, it was clear that the University was seeking a pastor as well as a leader, someone who would always hold students as the first priority. While I intend to be both, what I've found in my short time here is that our students, faculty and staff also care deeply for one another. It has been a difficult two years, and the University community has taken our Jesuit mission to "care for each person" to an entirely new level. St. Ignatius reminds us always to scan the horizon, and Scranton does just that, innovating together as we move forward as one of America's premier colleges. And don't just take our word for it: Recently, U.S. News & World Report ranked The University of Scranton among the top five in the North, improving on nearly 30 years of top 10 recognition. Experience life on campus today. Walk up the Commons, introduce yourself to members of our community and have a taste of our amazing food. I think you'll find -- as I have -- that it feels like home.

Yours Faithfully,

Rev. Joseph G. Marina, S.J. President
