COUNSELING & HUMAN SERVICES

About the Program

The counseling and human services program prepares students for success and leadership in the human services.

Through Scranton's curriculum and experiential learning program, you'll develop the knowledge, practical skills and self-awareness to work with a diverse clientele across the lifespan.

Outcomes & Opportunities

? You'll have the opportunity to pursue two internship placements (150 and 200 hours), as well as a variety of community-based learning and extracurricular activities. The Counseling and Human Services Department provides internship placement assistance and has affiliations with over 100 local agencies and schools.

? Students appreciate the flexibility of the program and the opportunity to pursue minors in subjects such as Spanish, psychology or criminal justice. Students also have the opportunity to study abroad.

? You'll find counseling and human services graduates working in community agencies, rehabilitation services, behavioral health organizations and addiction recovery programs, along with many other local, state and federal services.

? Typically, one-half to two-thirds of our graduates continue into graduate programs for clinical mental health, clinical rehabilitation counseling, school counseling, college counseling and student affairs, human resources and social work.

* Includes community based learning component. **Select a First Year Seminar in PHIL or T/RS or other major to fulfill requirements both for the First Year Seminar and a General Education Requirement. If a student chooses a CHS First Year Seminar (CHS 100X or 110X), it will be counted as a free CHS elective. Thus, First Year Seminars in these disciplines may not add to the total credits for the major. Talk with your advisor if you have any questions. *** It is strongly recommended that you take CHS 293 during your sophomore year but no later than fall of junior year (preferably concurrently or just after your statistics course), as it lays the foundation for advanced research papers that will be required in your last two years. Curriculum grid effective for the 2022-23 academic year in accordance with the undergraduate course catalog.
