What is RSS?

RSS stands for Rich Site Summary and is a technology used to monitor rapidly changing information on the web in an organized and user friendly way.

It is identified by the little orange and white RSS icon that is found all over the world on Web sites, in particular on news, blog, daily deals, government alerts and classified sites. By posting a "feed" on their page, web site owners allow RSS readers to search their site to continuously look for fresh and new information all the while maintaining user privacy.

Read RSS Feeds

RSS Feed subscriptions appear in the folder pane under the RSS Feeds folder in Outlook 2013 or the RSS Subscriptions folder in Outlook 2016.

The contents of the RSS item appear in the Reading Pane. Double-click the RSS item in the message list to open it in a new window.

Many RSS items are summaries of a larger article. A link to the full article is usually included in the body of the RSS item. To view or download the full item, do one of the following:

Click the link in the body of the RSS item. Click Home > View Article. Click Home > Download Content.

The content is downloaded as an attachment titled Full article.htm. Double-click the attachment to open it in your web browser or right-click the attachment, click Save As, and then select the folder where you want to save the attachment.

How to get notified of incoming RSS feed items in Outlook 2013.

1) Open Outlook and Click on the 'Rules' drop down in 'Home' tab.

2) Click on `Manage Rules and Alert New Rule' and Click on 'Apply rule on messages I receive' under 'Start from a blank rule'. Then Click or tap on Next.

3) check 'from RSS Feeds with specified text in the rule 'or' from any RSS Feed' as per your requirement 4) Click or tap on Next, scroll down and check 'display a Desktop Alert' and click on Finish.

Chrome needs to add the RSS reader.

Newest versions of Safari for OS X (El Capitan & Yosemite) have an RSS subscription feature built directly into the web browser.
