Congratulations on your acceptance to the University of North Texas for Fall 2018! All new North Texans are required to attend orientation before they can register and actually attend classes. During orientation, you will have the opportunity to learn about campus resources, receive academic advising, register for classes, and interact with your fellow peers. There are several orientation options for new transfer students. Please read the descriptions of these options in this brochure and select the option that best meets your needs. Regardless of your choice, orientation will provide you with the necessary tools to successfully transition to UNT.

Register for Orientation

Orientation reservations can be made by logging on to my.unt.edu with your EUID and password. Click "Student Center," then "Register for Orientation." Only those sessions with space still available will appear.

Student Cost: $63.00

Family Cost: $45.00 per family member

Transient/Visiting Students

A transient student is an undergraduate student who has been enrolled at another college or university who plans to attend UNT for one long term/semester and then return to the college or university where previously enrolled. Transient students and visiting students are expected to complete an online orientation before enrolling in classes at UNT. If you are a transient or visiting student and wish to speak with an academic advisor, you must do so by calling 940.565.4198 to sign up for an orientation session.

What to Bring to Orientation

1. Copy of evaluated transcripts received from UNT 2. Picture ID 3. Current class schedule and course descriptions as listed in

catalog of classes for classes that have not appeared on most recent transcript 4. Award letter for Financial Aid & Scholarship recipients 5. All correspondence from UNT, including Spirit Cards 6. Comfortable walking shoes

These are orientations focused on academic advising, registration, campus resources, and peer interaction. The benefit to attending this orientation session is you will register for classes during the Early Registration period for continuing students. This allows for optimal course availability. Space is limited.

All College of Engineering and College of Information majors will be advised at Discovery Park, UNT's comprehensive research park. Because this is where you will take the majority of your classes, it is important for you to also become oriented with this campus. Orientation Leaders will guide you to Discovery Park by bus following the Orientation Welcome.

Music Auditioned and accepted music majors with transfer college music theory classes will be placed into appropriate music theory and aural skills classes with the consultation of their advisor. All auditioned and accepted College of Music students (with the exception of piano majors) should plan on taking a piano placement test during orientation.

Math The Department of Mathematics will not place students into courses at or above the level of Calculus I (Math 1710) without prerequisite credit. Some examples of prerequisite credit include: scores of 3 or better on the Calculus AB or BC Advanced Placement Exam, a score of 5 or better on the higher-level IB mathematics exam, and credit in mathematics courses with Texas Common Course Numbers: Math 2312 or 2412. If you would like to take Calculus I as your initial course and do not have prior prerequisite credit, you will be required to take the placement assessment. If your major requires Calculus I, then you are strongly encouraged to take the placement assessment.

Eagle Experience | Thursday, July 19 - Friday, July 20 Eagle Experience is an overnight orientation for transfer students with 30 or less credit hours. This special orientation session gives students the opportunity to connect with campus and meet fellow transfers. Half-Day Sessions Transfer Express sessions are half-day orientations for new transfer students. We realize that many transfer students work full-time or have other obligations during the day. Transfer Express is designed to accommodate students who can't dedicate a full day on-campus for orientation.

It is beneficial to attend the earliest orientation session possible for optimum course availability.

Note: The length of your orientation will vary. Please make arrangements to attend the full day of orientation.

1. You are expected to take the online Pearson MyMathTest (MMT) prior to coming to your orientation session. Doing this is important for students majoring in Math, Engineering, Science, Economics (BS) and who need to start with Calculus I (Math 1710) or a Business major who needs Business Calculus (Math 1190).

2. You will find how to access the test and other important information about the placement assessment on the Math Department's website. Go to: math.unt.edu, under `Courses and Schedules' select `Math Placement'.

ADA Accessible

Foreign Language Remote Lot 80 Students taking the Foreign Language Placement Exam may earn up to 12 hours of foreign language credit. Exams for placement and/or credit are offered in Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Russian, and Spanish. Parent/Family Orientation runs concurrently with the full-day sessions. Parent Orientation is not offered during Transfer Express sessions. The program is optional, but strongly encouraged. Parents/families will have the opportunity to learn about the many offices, services and academic programs UNT offers, including details students might not hear during orientation. You and your student will have separate itineraries, but will have the opportunity to be together several times throughout the day. Due to the nature of the program, family members are unable to attend college meetings and advising sessions.

TRANSFER TOOLKIT

Prior to attending orientation, all new transfer students are asked to complete online modules through Blackboard Learn called the Transfer Toolkit. These modules will help you explore personal interests and skills, and feel confident in your major selection. Although we realize that transfer students are entering UNT with some college experience, we want to make sure your transition to our university is seamless.

The Transfer Toolkit will be available to new transfer students beginning May 1.

Log on to Blackboard Learn at learn.unt.edu with your EUID (example: abc1234) and password. On the top menu bar, select "organizations" and then your Transfer Toolkit should be visible. It is recommended that you complete the Transfer Toolkit modules before your orientation session.

CAMPUS RESOURCES

Disability Accommodations If you require accommodations to fully participate in this program (wheelchair accessible transportation, Sign Language Interpreter, handouts in digital format, etc.), please contact the Office of Disability Accommodations at least two weeks prior to your orientation session at 940-565-4323.

Texas Success Initiative All incoming undergraduate students must take the TSI Assessment prior to enrolling in any collegiate-level coursework, unless they meet the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board exemptions in accordance with Texas Law. Exemptions may be granted based on SAT, ACT, or TAKS scores OR prior military service OR previous college coursework. Exemptions are not automatic. Check your TSI status by clicking on the TSI link in the lower right corner of your Student Center at my.unt.edu. Questions? Meningitis Vaccination All new students, including transfer students, under the age of 22 must show evidence of receipt of an initial bacterial meningitis vaccination (meningococcal meningitis vaccine) dose or booster in the last five years and at least ten days prior to the start of the semester in which the student initially enrolls.
