MCAS
Scores
If
you
are
the
parent
of
a
fourth
or
fifth
grader,
you
should
have
received
your
child's
MCAS
scores
from
the
spring
tests
in
both
math
and
ELA.
While
the
MCAS
tests
are
just
one
snapshot
of
your
child's
learning,
we
are
able
to
gain
valuable
information
by
analyzing
the
results.
When
looking
at
your
child's
score,
please
consider
the
growth
score
as
most
important.
Regardless
of
where
your
child
scored
(Advanced,
Proficient,
Needs
Improvement
or
Warning)
it
is
the
growth
score
that
tells
us
whether
he/she
is
making
adequate
gains
when
compared
to
similar
peers
across
the
state.
Teachers
look
at
scores
to
determine
instructional
strengths
and
needs.
They
analyze
scores
from
last
year's
class
to
improve
their
instruction.
They
also
look
for
specific
items
that
were
problematic
for
their
current
students.
They
look
for
trends,
finding
areas
to
celebrate
and
areas
for
improvement.
As
a
school,
we
notice
that
our
Student
Growth
Percentile
(SGP)
scores
were
stronger
in
math
than
in
ELA.
We
appear
to
be
on
the
right
track
as
we
design
math
units
based
entirely
on
the
Common
Core
State
Standards
vs.
following
a
scripted
program.
The
scores
also
give
us
direction
as
we
work
to
strengthen
our
literacy
program.
We
know
that
small
group
differentiated
instruction
based
on
the
Common
Core
State
Standards
will
accelerate
growth
at
all
levels.
Our
new
inclusion
model,
our
heterogeneously
grouped
classes,
our
collaborative
development
of
standards
based
units,
and
our
new
leveled
library
are
all
in
place
this
year
to
allow
for
rapid
growth
in
literacy.
While
test
scores
give
us
important
information
about
achievement,
it
is
through
our
daily
work
with
your
child
that
we
gain
the
most
valuable
information.
Your
child's
interests,
motivations,
mindset
and
learning
goals
are
the
most
important
part
of
the
equation.

Our
School
Constitution
At
each
of
our
grade
level
community
meetings
Friday
our
focus
was
on
RESPECT.
We
entered
and
exited
to
the
Aretha
Franklin
classic
and
were
treated
to
a
fabulous
presentation
by
Mrs.
William's
fourth
grade
about
ways
we
can
show
respect
at
school.
Then
we
unveiled
our
whole
school
constitution,
written
by
representatives
from
each
class
who
looked
at
long
list
of
rules
for
each
of
their
respective
classrooms.
With
thoughtful
discussion
and
debate,
we
managed
to
pare
them
down
to
these
most
essential
principles.
Each
child
will
have
a
chance
to
sign
the
rules,
accepting
them
as
the
standards
for
our
behavior.
These
will
then
be
displayed
throughout
the
school.
