This is a key role for nurse leaders and managers at some point in practice. You are encourage to review the Group Facilitation Information Sheet to provide some basic tips on what facilitation of a group means and how to perform it successfully. The directions for the assignment are fairly simple. For one week of group discussion, which you selected in week 1, you will guide the discussion topic, not by giving all the answers from your perspective, but by engaging the group members to engage deeply in the topic. There are five major criteria for which you will be graded and they follow in the Assignment Criteria Table. Launch post: The launch post is basically an introduction that Contains a synopsis of what is to be accomplished in the discussion related to the weekly outcomes; how the discussion topic is significant to nurse leaders and managers, clarification of your role as facilitator, and clarification of expectation of participants. It does not contain a response to the discussion prompt from you as the facilitator.Facilitation Behaviors: At least three follow-up posts are required. These summarize, synthesize, and/or clarify the group’s discussion. While you might mention a participant by name, the focus of these posts should be directed toward the group. Therefore, the post should start with Hello colleagues…., Class…., etc. In addition, there should be some component in your posts that encourage deeper thinking or a different insight or perspective. It is not your role to agree or disagree with any of the particular posts. The facilitator remains neutral and does not lead the group into decision making. Instead, the goal is to allow for broad and deep exploration while guiding the group to remain focused on the topic.Preparation for facilitation: Preparation for the facilitation requires that you prepare by becoming very familiar with all the required readings and seek additional information from at least one outside scholarly source. It helps if you think of probing questions as you are preparing that might help you in the follow-up posts as appropriate. The quality of you posts, beginning with the launch will indicate how well you have prepared.Posting requirements: The launch post must be in the group thread by Monday @ 11:59pm MT. Remember, the group is waiting on your initial post to begin. You must post at least three (3) follow-up posts on separate days beginning after the launch post. Writing conventions, references, and APA: Standard criteria apply here. In addition, a reminder that the required additional scholarly source must be no more than 5 years old.Assignment CriteriaPoints%DescriptionLaunch Post10Role of facilitator and expectations of group members stated, statement of expected group outcomes related to weekly outcomes; statement of significance of discussion topic to nurse leaders and managersFacilitation behaviors15At least three follow-up posts summarize and clarify meaning of group responses; questions engage deeper exploration of topic; maintains topic focusPreparation for facilitation10Responses are referenced based on required reading and at least one scholarly work outside of required readings; Probing and/or redirecting questions show clear understanding of readings and discussionPosting requirements10Launch post by Monday 11:59pm MT at the beginning of week; at least 3 follow up posts on separate days; follow-up posts begin on days following the launch dayWriting conventions; grammar, spelling, use of APA for references and in-text citations5APA format is followed for references and in-text citations; Writing is clear concise without grammatical and spelling errors.References are less than 5 years oldTotal50Grading RubricAssignment CriteriaOutstanding or highest level of performanceVery good or high level of performanceCompetent or satisfactory level of performancePoor or failing level of performanceUnsatisfactory level of performanceLaunch PostRole of facilitator stated; expectations of group members stated, statement of expected group outcomes related to weekly outcomes; statement of significance of discussion topic to nurse leaders and managers109640All four components are clearly articulated and accurate3 of 4 components are clearly articulated and accurateAll four components generally stated or contains minor inaccuraciesOnly two components are clearly articulated and accurate Components of launch post are missing or not related to the discussion topicFacilitation BehaviorsFollow-up posts summarize and clarify meaning of group responses; questions engage deeper exploration of topic; maintains topic focus1510530All three components of follow-up posts are present, accurate, engaging, and guides topic focus Two of three components of follow-up posts are present, accurate, engaging, and guides topic focus One of three components of follow-up posts is present, accurate, engaging, and guides topic focus; All three components are present, generally stated and superficial Components are missing or not related to discussion topic Facilitation PreparationResponses are referenced based on required reading and at least one scholarly work; scholarly source is from outside required readings; Probing and/or redirecting questions provided based on understanding of readings and discussion109640All three components are present; accurate, and clearly articulatedTwo of three components are present, accurate, and clearly articulatedAll components are present but generally addressed; or contains inaccuraciesOne of three components present, accurate, and clearly articulated and remaining components are generally addressedAll components are missing or unrelated to the discussionPosting requirementsLaunch post by Monday 11:59pm MT at the beginning of week; at least 3 follow up posts on separate days; follow-up posts begin on days following the launch day1096OAll criteria metLaunch post meets deadline; and one other criterion is metLaunch post meets deadline and no other criterion is metAll Posting requirements not metWriting and FormattingAPA format is followed for references and in-text citationsWriting is clear concise without grammatical and spelling errors.References are less than 5 years old5320All formatting and writing criteria are metTwo of three formatting and writing criteria are metOne of three formatting and writing criteria are metNo writing and formatting criteria are met 50 Total Points _____ of 50 Points ................
