BarrettThe Lord be with you!The church year ends this month with the major feast of Christ the King Sunday on November 24th. My oldest son, his wife, and the grandchildren will be here that week for Thanksgiving. My son and my son in law started a custom a few years ago. When we host the family, dad or son preach to help out. So on Christ the King Sunday my son Sean, an ELCA pastor in NC, will be giving the message and assisting me at the altar, and I will preach for him the Sunday after Christmas in NC.Now, on to Advent: so that you can plan for the holidays. I give you credit. It took nine years for me to hear any grumbling about the delay in singing Christmas carols. I congratulate you on your liturgical sophistication! As for the dissidents, here is a word of explanation. The fact that we are leaning forward in our seats, chomping at the bit to sing Christmas carols, is the whole point of Advent. It is a season of preparation, waiting, and expectation for both the celebration of the incarnation and the return of Christ. Easter is preceded by the solemn season of Lent. We do not jump the gun and celebrate prematurely. The drama builds and we break out in “alleluias” and songs of praise as the glorious day arrives. In Advent we wait and prepare. Then we break out into joyous Christmas carols as the Nativity arrives. 00A message from Fr. Also, remember that we continue to sing Christmas carols the next week as the Christmas season continues. This is the church’s counter cultural message that Christmas does not begin with the shopping days preceding Christmas and it does not end with Christmas day and throwing out the tree! There are plenty of chances to hear and sing Christmas carols throughout December, but that is the world’s message, not the churches. Here are the worship specifics. There will worship for the three Wednesdays preceding the Nativity. Worship will start at 6pm preceded by a soup supper at 5pm. The theme this year is “They Call Him Jesus.” The weekly themes are: the Lamb, the Shepherd, and Emmanuel. We will worship at 7pm on Christmas Eve using Rite I from the BCP. We will hold candlelight worship at 9pm using a contemporary liturgy.Father BillThe Order of the Daughters of the King Operation Christmas Child - Parish Outreach ProjectPlease bring your boxes back to Advent by Sunday, November 17 and leave them on the table in the Sanctuary. They will be blessed by Fr. Bill and the Daughters will deliver them to one of the collection churches. Thank you and God Bless for making a difference in the lives of many needy children around the world.for His sake,Submitted byLeah Foshay Episcopal Church WomenE.C.W. Nothing to report at this time of printingUTO – United Thank OfferingJust a Reminder – We will be collecting the United Thank Offering (UTO) envelopes and boxes on December 8, 2019. There are plenty envelopes and boxes will be available in the Narthex soon. “The United Thank Offering (UTO) is a ministry of The Episcopal Church for the mission of the whole church. Through UTO, individuals are invited to embrace and deepen a personal daily spiritual discipline of gratitude. UTO encourages people to notice the good things that happen each day, give thanks to God for those blessings and make an offering for each blessing... UTO is entrusted to receive the offerings, and to distribute the 100% of what is collected to support innovative mission and ministry throughout The Episcopal Church and Provinces of the Anglican Communion.” This was quoted from the website. We take so many blessings for granted, and this is a time we can reflect, and offer a little token of our gratitude. I was personally taken back when I read something on the internet that reminded me that the things we take for granted, someone else is praying for.Thank you in advance for your consideration,Mary Daniels Thanksgiving Food Baskets for 2019Feeding GODS ChildrenWe will begin collecting for this ministry on Sunday October 20th.For those of you that are not familiar with this ministry, we inquire from the guidance Counselors at the six elementary schools that we support, as to which child needs our support. They are entitled to issue twenty (20) children/families names that need of support. Therefore, I anticipate needing a total of 120 baskets for the Needy CHILDREN of Marion County. The schools that we support are as follows: Sunrise, Hammett Bowen, Saddlewood, Marion Oaks, Romeo Dunnellon We have found that it is better to solicit monetary contributions, in lieu of requesting goods for simplicity purposes. Each basket is expected to cost $35.00, we will do our best to control the cost.Delivery date is expected to be on NOVEMBER 20th (WEDNESDAY). As in the past we will meet here at the church at 8 AM. IF all goes as planned, we should all be back home no later than noontime.Financial support as well as packers and delivery people will all be needed. We have jobs available for everyone regardless of age or condition.Should you know of someone, a neighbor, friend, relative that can benefit from this ministry, please let me know, so we can support them.Thank you for your time, financial support and commitment to this ministry.Yours in Christ, AL SickleAltar Guild The Altar Guild’s purpose is to perform the special ministry of serving in the Lord’s Sanctuary to the honor of God, and to the well-being of His Church.
