National Broiler Market-at-a-Glance Whole broiler/fryer prices are generally steady to weak for most sizes. Offerings are moderate to instances available for current needs. Retail and food service demand is light to moderate for the upcoming weekend. Floor stocks are balanced, with instances heavier than desired in the Central region. Market activity is slow to moderate. In the parts structure, all items are trending steady to weak with some unsettledness noted for boneless skinless breast. Offerings of white meat items are generally moderate, with tenders being in the longest position. Dark meat items are mostly moderate to at times light. Market activity for parts is slow to moderate. In production areas, live supplies are moderate at mostly desirable weights.

National Mechanically Separated Chicken (f.o.b. Shipper Dock or equiv.; negotiated prices in trucklot and less than trucklot volumes reported in thousand lb. quantities, cents/lb.; delivery within 2- weeks.)

Prices of 15-20% MSC are trending mostly steady. The undertone is steady to weak. Demand into domestic and export channels is in a range of light to moderate. Supplies are moderate to available. The 2020 contract season for MSC and raw materials is progressing slowly with nothing much to report at this time. Processing schedules are normal. Market activity is slow to moderate. Supplies of raw materials are moderate to heavy. All available options continue to be utilized to maintain product flow. Frame prices are steady with trading levels at 58 cents FOB, mostly 5-7 cents FOB.

Broiler Hatchery

Broiler-Type Eggs Set in the United States Up 4 Percent

Hatcheries in the United States weekly program set 227 million eggs in incubators during the week ending October 26, 2019, up 4 percent from a year ago. Average hatchability for chicks hatched during the week in the United States was 82.8 percent. Average hatchability is calculated by dividing chicks hatched during the week by eggs set three weeks earlier.

Broiler-Type Chicks Placed in the United States Up 1 Percent

Broiler growers in the United States weekly program placed 176 million chicks for meat production during the week ending October 26, 2019, up 1 percent from a year ago. Cumulative placements from the week ending January 5, 2019 through October 26, 2019 for the United States were 8.00 billion. Cumulative placements were up 2 percent from the same period a year earlier.

Based on the preliminary chick placements, the number of fryers available for marketing during the week ending 07-Dec-19 is estimated at 158.7 million head. This compares to 159.9 million head the previous week and to 162.1 million head the same week a year ago, when the slaughter was 166.5 million head and the national weighted average price was 84.67 cents per pound.
