CDR John “Booner” Boone USN first entered the Navy in 1988 where he attended the University of Idaho and enrolled in the NROTC program. In 1989 he was accepted and transferred to the United States Naval Academy, where received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and competed as a Division 1 Varsity Wrestler. In 2007 he received a Masters Degree at the Command and Staff College at Newport Rhode Island.

CDR Boone’s previous assignments include the following: In 1995 he received his Naval Aviation Gold Wings at NAS Meridian, Mississippi. From there he transferred to NAS Lemoore to complete his flight training and carrier qualify in the F/A-18 Hornet. In 1998, he deployed with VFA-115 where he conducted Operation Southern Watch missions off of the USS Abraham Lincoln. In 1999, he was selected for TOPGUN and after graduating from the course, became a TOPGUN Instructor. In 2002, he transferred to MCAS Beaufort , South Carolina where he joined VFA-86 as the Training Officer. In 2003, he received follow on orders to VFA-86 as a Department Head and deployed on the USS Enterprise. He flew combat missions in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). He also deployed again on the USS Enterprise during Summer Pulse 2004, which included cooperative missions with European and African nations including England, France, Spain, Morocco, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands. From 2007 until 2009 he was assigned to the Joint Functional Component Command Integrated Missile Defense, United States Strategic Command in Colorado Springs. He qualified as an Integrated Missile Defense Watch Commander and was involved in the first ever satellite shoot-down by an Aegis Cruiser.

CDR Boone’s decorations and awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Strike Flight Air Medal, Air Medal with Bronze Star for individual action, The Navy Commendation Medal with Gold Star, The Navy Achievement Medal with Gold Star and the Michael Longardt Award for Leadership from Commander, Strike Fighter Atlantic.

CDR Boone is married to the former Miss Heather Hall of Waynesboro, Mississippi. They have two children: Nicholas, and Matthew.
