Linking the United States Constitution to Current Events

The Preamble to the United States Constitution reflects the basic principle of American government – the right of the people to govern themselves. It also lists six goals for the United States government. These goals are still evident in today’s society. In this assignment you will create a booklet on six current events (events in the last six months) and explain how the events are linked to the Preamble of the Constitution.

Steps:

1. Find six separate news articles, one for each goal stated in the Preamble to The United States Constitution. These articles must apply to the federal government, not state or local governments. Use a variety of sources.

2. Cut out (or print w/ website and date) the articles, read them thoroughly, and highlight key facts.

3. Each goal will have two pages devoted to the topic.

4. Create a cover page with an appropriate, creative title and at least one appropriate visual. Include your name, period, and due date on the cover page.

5. Neatly bind the book together and number the pages in sequential order.
