Map of Ship Trap Island
For this assignment you will be creating a map of Ship-Trap Island from the short story “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell. Follow the steps below to do this correctly.
1. Use unlined paper that is at least 8 ½” x 11”(most paper is this size).
2. Write your name and class period on the back of your map, not on the front.
3. Use the whole sheet of paper.
4. Make your map very colorful.
a. Use colored pencils to color, and use “natural” colors. For example, water should not be pink, and trees should not be purple.
b. Markers can be used to label items, to draw Rainsford’s path, and for outlining. Do not use markers to color.
5. The island is to be drawn with water surrounding it, but the island itself should take up most of the sheet of paper. The water should just be a small area around the island.
6. Write the name of the island somewhere on the page.
7. Everything on the map must be drawn by you. You may not use the computer for anything.
8. Included on the map must be all of the following:
✓ the rocks where Rainsford came ashore
✓ the general’s château
✓ Make sure you indicate Rainsford’s and Zaroff’s path across, through, and around Ship Trap Island
✓ sites of the various traps (Burmese Tiger Pit, Uganda Tree Trap, etc…)
✓ the death swamp
✓ the cliffs
✓ Maylay Man-Catcher
✓ The place where Rainsford first found/saw evidence of a kill
✓ The place where Rainsford leaves the island (where he jumps in the water)
✓ Anything else from the story that you feel should be included on the map
The map should be colorful, neat, and creative. Neatness and following directions are very important to receive a high grade on this assignment. Even if you are not a great artist, you can still do a good job on this and get a high score.
