FLEET WEEK NEW YORK 2016

May 13, 2016

WELCOME ABOARD!

CADET:

Congratulations! You have been selected for the Fleet Week New York 2016 Youth Embark Program. You are one of the priviledged civilian to cruise on the USS Bataan (LHD 5) from Norfolk, Virginia into the New York Harbor with a parade of other ships. It is truly an exhilerating experience “manning” the rails along the side of US Navy sailors and US Marines as the crowds waive and cheer. Not many teens or adults can brag of this once-in-a-lifetime experience. However, since we represent the US Naval Sea Cadet Corps there are responsibilities that come with this trip. I will expect nothing short of your absolute best military bearing and professionalism at all times!!

TRAINING DATE, LOCATION & TIMES:

Cadets and Officers will report on SUN 22 MAY 2016 at 0915 at the Lawrenceville Armory, 151 Eggert Crossing Road, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648, where you will board a bus for Naval Station Norfolk, 9079 Hampton Blvd., Norfolk, VA. We will cruise into New York Harbor on WED 25 MAY 2016, at approximately 1030 and dock at Pier 88S. We will debark from the USS Bataan (LHD 5) at approximately 1300 (1:00 PM), where your cadet will be dismissed from the pier. A parent MUST be there before 1300 to pick up their cadet. If this is not convenient, you may take a shuttle with the officers back to the Lawrenceville Armory for pick up; however you need to contact me immediately to let me know.

COST & ADVANCED TRAINING:

NHQ has approved the Funding Request. Therefore the cost to each cadet will only be $150.00; USNSCC will subsidize the remaining cost.

Each cadet will receive credit for an Advanced Training which will need to be recorded on your Advancement Report after the AT.

SEA CADET QUARTERLY:

Kate McIlvaine who is Director of Strategic Outreach and in charge of publishing the Quarterly has been informed of our trip. She is looking for talented writers to tell of their experience aboard the USS Bataan and action pictures for the next Sea Cadet Quarterly. This is a great opportunity for you to be in the headlines! Please submit the articles and pictures to me at dtreacy7@ as soon as possible after the training.
