The University of South Florida is a national research university with over 44,000 students. USF is located in the thriving Tampa Bay area and has four campuses in Tampa, St. Petersburg, Sarasota-Manatee and Lakeland.

The University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee is located 60 miles south of Tampa on the Gulf Coast of Central Florida and in an area that is recognized as a cultural center in Florida. The University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee is an upper-division, regional campus that provides junior, senior and graduate course work leading to baccalaureate and master’s degrees along with certificate programs. The campus serves more than 3,400 students annually with 39 academic programs. USF S-M moved into a new Campus Center in 2006, providing classrooms with state of the art technologies.

The USF College of Education is one of the largest urban Colleges of Education in the country. Approximately 4,500 students are enrolled in the College in bachelor’s, master’s, Ph.D. and Ed.D. programs. The College is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and is rated in the top 25% of graduate schools of education in US News and World Report.. The College contributes significantly to the over $310 million in external funding generated during 2005-06 by the University of South Florida, and to the University’s national and international agenda through research, teaching, and engagement with the schools/community.

The mission of the Psychological Foundations (Educational Psychology) program within the Department of Psychological and Social Foundations is to help future teachers understand child development, how children learn, how to apply research findings to the education of young children and how to use research-based practices in the classroom. Faculty members have a strong commitment to diversity, a tradition of quality teaching and mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students in research, and professional service.

The Position

Responsibilities include teaching undergrad and graduate courses in education psychology and collaborating with colleagues in an interdisciplinary department. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue programmatic research in the candidate’s area of expertise and within the mission of the college and university. We seek emerging scholars and outstanding teachers who will work across departments on the Sarasota-Manatee campus and with departmental colleagues on multiple campuses.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Doctoral Degree in Education Psychology or related field; ABDs may apply; all degree requirements must be met by the position start date of August 6, 2007.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience at the university level.

• Potential for successful program of research.

• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, service and collaboration.

• Experience in or potential for grant writing and obtaining external funding for research.

• Research expertise in and experience teaching courses in child development and related subjects.

• Graduate or postdoctoral educational experiences in interdisciplinary environments.
