OFFICIAL VISA REQUIREMENTS

A visa is a stamp affixed in a passport which allows one to enter and exit a foreign country. Please review the following list of general requirements before looking up a specific country’s requirements. All of the countries listed require the use of an official passport, with the exception of Taiwan. Foreign visa requirements are subject to change without notice.

Employees will:

1. Allow adequate lead time. The processing-time for visas is dictated by the various embassies. The general lead time for most embassies is 10 to15 business days. Embassies that require more lead time are annotated in this listing.

2. Ensure that their passport is valid at least 6 months beyond the dates of travel before applying for a visa.

3. Use this “Official Visa Requirements” listing when verifying requirements for official travel and not the listing published by the Department of State (DOS). The DOS listing only applies to personal and private industry travel and differs from this listing.

4. Note the following when reading this listing:

• “No visa required” indicates that there is no visa required to enter and exit the country. The employee travels on their official passport only

• “Visa required, No Application” indicates a visa is required, but applications and pictures are not required. In these cases, the NOAA Travel Office (NTO) will prepare and submit applicable letters with the official passport to the embassy for a visa.

• Visa application forms are hyperlinked for countries that require a visa. Some links can only be opened on a Government Network (Gov’t laptop/phone)

5. Spell everything out and do not use acronyms on visa applications;

6. Sign all visa applications in blue/black ink. DO NOT SIGN DIGITIALLY Original signatures are required unless otherwise noted.

7. Submit recent photos that:

• Are 2”x 2” in size;

• Are in color;

• Are on photo paper and not on regular paper;

• Have a white background;

• Do not show the applicant wearing glasses; and

• Do not show the applicant smiling.

• On-line visa application. After the traveler submits the on-line visa application, they will receive a confirmation page.

• Confirmation Page. Travelers will send the Confirmation page along with the photo they uploaded to the NTO along with their passport.

• The on-line application expires after 30 days.

• Letter of Invitation must come from the Chinese government and will contain a red seal and bar code in the top right corner. If the letter of invitation is not from the Chinese government, the trip is considered a regular business trip which means the traveler will need to apply in person at the embassy and be fingerprinted;

• Everything must be spelled out – NO ACRONYMS;

• Allow at least 2 weeks processing time.

•  PURPOSE OF TRAVEL: Must provide a detailed explanation of the purpose of travel.

• A Transit Visa is needed for either Brazil or Argentina, depending on your travel itinerary.
