New in Blackboard – New Annotation Tool for Inline GradingThe tool for annotation is now called Box and it works differently than Crocodoc. The biggest change is that when the instructor or student prints or downloads the document, the annotations do NOT show up. A) Point Annotation ModeB) PrintC) DownloadTwo Ways to Annotate Point Annotation Mode Click on the Point Annotation Mode tool at the top of the screen (A in image above) to toggle on this feature. You will get a message to “Click anywhere to add a comment to the document.” Click [OK] and your cursor will turn into a plus sign.Now when you click on the document, you will get a window where you can write your comment.Click [Post] when you are done.Highlight Text (and add comment to highlighted text)Highlight a single word or a block of text in the document. Two choices appear: Highlight Text (the pencil) and Add Comment to Highlighted Text (the word balloon). When you click the pencil, the text will be highlighted.When you click Add Comment, you get a new window where you write your comment and then click [Post]. What the Student SeesNOTE: After adding annotations, the instructor must give the assignment a grade for the student to see the annotations.When the student goes to My Grades and clicks on the title of the assignment, the inline grading window opens, showing the annotations:From here, the student can hover over the Point Annotation balloon (A) to see that comment. He or she needs to click on the highlighted text (B) to see if there is a comment associated with that text.Notice that the student also has options for Print and Download at the top, but remember that annotations do not appear in the printed or downloaded documents in Box. -- end ................
