1. Water Levels

Made to Play: An activity that encourages preschoolers to follow guidelines while having fun and learning new concepts

What You Need: 5 water bottles with lids, water, and 5 different colors of food coloring

What You Do:

Before the Activity: Fill the water bottles with water at different levels. Put a different color of food coloring in each bottle, put the lids on, and shake the bottles. Place the bottles on a table or the floor in the activity area.

During the Activity: Challenge the children to put the bottles in order from the bottle with the least amount of water to the bottle with the most water.

After the Activity: Be sure each child has a turn to put the bottles in order.

What You Say:

Before the Activity: “Look at the pretty colors of bottled water!” (Point.)

During the Activity: “Some of the bottles have a little water in them and some have a lot of water. Let’s see if we can put them in order from least to most. First, we need to find the bottle with the LEAST water in it. (Pause.) YES! Nice job! Now look for the next bottle with the LEAST amount of water in it.” (Continue with activity.)

After the Activity: “Way to go! We put all of the bottles of pretty water in order. We are going to talk about how Jesus did something AMAZING with water in our Bible story today.”

Basic Truth: Jesus wants to be my friend forever.

Gather children for a Large Group time that includes interactive worship and the Bible story. Some kids (especially the younger ones) may wander. That’s OK. They’re still listening and learning!

Worship: Inviting People to Respond to God

Engage kids’ hearts through dynamic and interactive worship.

What You Need: CD player and this month’s worship song, “Amazing Things.”

LEADER: “Hi, everyone! It’s great to see you today. We have one more day to sing our song about Jesus, who can do AMAZING things. He can do anything. Who can do anything? [Bottom Line] Jesus can do anything. Yes! Let’s sing.

(Lead children in singing “Amazing Things.”)

“Way to go! You are all such amazing singers. Now remind me: Who can do anything? [Bottom Line] Jesus can do anything. That’s right, friends. You better believe it!”

Engage kids’ hearts through a dynamic and interactive Bible story and prayer experience.

What You Need: A Bible, a white plastic bowl, a bottle of water, a spoon, and a single packet of drink mix (Crystal Light®, Gatorade®, Kool-Aid®, etc.)

LEADER: “Hello, friends! Come sit with me. This is the Bible. (Hold up Bible.) It has lots and LOTS of true stories in it about how much God loves you and you and YOU!”

(Touch each child’s head as you say “you.”)

“Today’s Bible story is about how [Bottom Line] Jesus can do anything. Jesus can even turn water . . .

(Pour water into a the bowl.)

“. . . into a super fancy party drink! See the water? Go ahead. You can touch the water.”

(Let each child touch the water.)

“One day, Jesus was at a wedding party. Everyone was having fun and then Jesus’ mommy said, ‘Oh, no! We don’t have anymore super fancy party drink.’ She went to Jesus so He could help, because she knew [Bottom Line] Jesus can do anything.

“Jesus saw six large jugs. He told a helper to go and fill the jugs with water. They did what Jesus said and filled the jugs with water. When they dipped some of the water out, something amazing had happened to the water.

(Pour the packet of drink mix into the bowl of water and stir.)

“Jesus had turned the water into super fancy party drink! And it was the best kind of super fancy party drink! But Jesus didn’t need a powder mix like I used. No way! Jesus just did it, because [Bottom Line] Jesus can do anything! Who can do anything?”

CHILDREN and LEADER: [Bottom Line] “Jesus can do anything.”

LEADER: “Great job! Again! Who can do anything?”

CHILDREN and LEADER: [Bottom Line] “Jesus can do anything.”

LEADER: “Yay! [Bottom Line] Jesus can do anything!”

(Clap for Jesus.)

(Note: Put the bowl of water away, out of reach of the children.)

“Now let’s close our eyes and put our hands in our laps so we can talk to God.”

In addition, these activities provide preschoolers with an opportunity to build relationships with their Small Group Leader.

1. Shake It

Hear from God | Memory Verse Review

Made to Move: An activity that uses a preschooler’s natural desire to move to help them learn

What You Need: Empty water bottles with lids (1 per child), hot glue gun, hot glue, and water

What You Do:

Prepared for You: Fill the bottles with ¼ full of water. Use the glue gun to place a dollop of glue inside the lid and replace the lids as tightly as possible.

During the Activity: Give each child a bottle of water. Encourage them to shake the bottles as hard as they can to make sounds with the moving water as they say the memory verse. Repeat several times.

What You Say:

Before the Activity: “We are going to SHAKE IT!”

During the Activity: (Hold up bottle.) “This bottle has water in it. When you shake it, it makes this sound. (Demonstrate.) Let’s shake the water and say our memory verse.” (Do activity.)

After the Activity: “WOW! You can really shake it! Jesus turned the water in to a super fancy party drink in our story today. Jesus can do ANYTHING because Jesus is God’s Son. Our memory verse tells us that with God ALL things are possible. It’s true! Who can do anything? [Bottom Line] Jesus can do anything!”

2. Colored Water

Talk About God | Bible Story Review

Made to Explore: An activity that channels a preschooler’s innate curiosity into a discussion of the week’s crucial concepts

What You Need: 2 clear plastic pitchers, water, large spoon, and 1 packet of red drink mix (like Kool-Aid®)

What You Do:

Before the Activity: Fill one of the pitchers half full of water. Pour the drink mix into the bottom of the empty pitcher.

During the Activity: Retell the Bible story. When you come to the part where the water turns into wine, pour the water from the first pitcher into the empty one. Stir the water to turn the water red.

What You Say:

Before the Activity: “We heard an AMAZING story today!”

During the Activity: “Jesus did things that we cannot do. Our story today told us that Jesus and His mother went to a party and they ran out of the super fancy party drink. Jesus took six jars of water and turned them into super fancy party drink. (Pour water into empty pitcher.) WOW! I used a drink mix to turn this water red, but Jesus did not need drink mix. Jesus is AMAZING!”

After the Activity: “Jesus can do ANYTHING—even things we cannot do, like turn water into a super fancy party drink. Who can do anything? [Bottom Line] Jesus can do anything!”

Live for God | Application Activity

During the Activity: “You can wave this blue streamer (hold up) and pretend it is water while we dance.” (Do activity.)
