2017 Dirt Series General Rules & Regulations

INTRODUCTION

The company Dirt Series, LLC (referred to as DS periodically hereinafter) rules and/or regulations set forth herein are designed to establish minimum acceptable requirements and to provide for the orderly conduct of racing events. Effective January 1, 2017 these rules and regulations will govern all Dirt Series events. All DS members willingly participating in these events are deemed to have complied with these rules and /or regulations. No express or implied warranty of safety shall result from publication of, or compliance with these rules and/or regulation. These rules and/or regulations are in no way a guarantee against injury or death to participants, spectators, or any person or persons. They are intended as guide for the conduct of the sport only.

GENERAL RULES

1: Off road racing is a hazardous sport, and with participation being voluntary, no entrant, pit crew member or vehicle sponsor shall have any claim for damages, expenses, lawsuits or otherwise against promoter, track operator, DS its officers, agents or directors arising from damage to any vehicle, personal injury or death, monetary loss of any kind whatsoever. Entrants, pit crew members or vehicle sponsors who voluntarily participate in any racing activities conduct under these rules, waive any claim they may have against promoter, track operator, DS its officers, agents or directors.

2: The promoter or track operator may run any type of approved DS event.

3: The director shall have the authority to penalize, disqualify and/or suspend any entrant or crewmember for the violation of these rules including special rulings.

4: DS may issue special rulings to account for conditions presented by the location of the race, the condition of the course or any other circumstance.

5: Supplementary regulations may be issued for each event as necessary to amend, suspend or modify existing rules and regulations.

6: DS assumes no responsibility whatsoever for delays, postponements and/or cancellations of all or part of an event because of inclement weather, unsafe course conditions and/or any other reason.

7: Not all DS members are employees of DS. These such members assume all responsibility for all charges, premiums and taxes payable on any funds they may receive as a result of their participation in any DS sponsored event(s).

8: DS reserves the right to refuse and/or deny any entry application.

9: No rider is permitted to carry gasoline except for within the machine's fuel tank.

10: Safety equipment and machine eligibility are the sole responsibility of the rider.

11: DNF Definition- Racer must start race and make one lap thru the scoring area to constitute a DNF. Last place points of class entrants last place finisher will be awarded. If more than one racer is scored with a DNF they will be credited with the position in which they would have finished as per the hand scorers’ final entry. Unable to meet this requirement gets scored as a DNS.

12: DNS Definition- Racer that has registered but unable to complete one lap, or make starting gate for either moto will be scored as a DNS. If racer receives a DNS on either moto and finishes or receives a DNF for either moto racer will receive last place points minus 5 positions. If racer received a DNS for both motos zero (0) points will be reward for this. If Racer has registered but was unable to meet the earlier requirements the racer has the option to keep the DNS scored as a round score or carry over entry to another round. By keeping the DNS as a round score constitutes the attempt to race and thus qualifies said racer for any overall championship if they are still eligible. A Racer may not DNS each round or a select round to attempt to qualify for the overall championship. Racers found attempting this will be disqualified from racing with the possibility of losing points.

14: ABSOLUTELY NO PIT RIDING OR HOT LAPPING WITHIN PIT AREA IS ALLOWED AT ANY EVENT. Vehicles seen exceeding a safe speed limit to and from ones destination may be grounds for disqualification of racer. For the safety of everyone around, please exercise all caution within the pit area. 5mph is the guideline speed to follow within all pitting area.

ENTRANTS

1: Any entrant who fails to fully fill out and sign required entry forms and releases may be disqualified with the possibility of forfeiting any prize money, points and contingencies won in that particular event. Entry forms and releases must be signed in person in front of DS entry personnel. Identification may be required.

2: No entrant may enter racing areas until they have signed all releases and/or entry forms. Wristbands will be checked prior being able to practice as well as on the starting gate of each race. No person shall sign the release or forms for anyone other than himself or herself. Proper identification may be required (i.e., picture ID).

3: The entry applications of persons under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian sign the minor release form.

4: Any entrant, who competes in or on a vehicle that he/she is not registered to ride, permits such action or enters under a different, shall forfeit any and all prize money, points and contingencies won in that particular event. Rider/Driver receives points, not vehicle. Such action may result in vehicle disqualification.

EVENT COURSE

1: A marked course is that official route designated by and marked with official DS markings. All vehicles must follow this route during the event. No vehicle may deviate from the marked course at any time. Short coursing is not permitted and will result in disqualification. Short coursing is defined as any deviation from the marked course resulting in either a time or position advantage. DS is not responsible for markings that are damaged or removed. All vehicles must proceed only in the correct direction of the course route or trail. Riding backwards on the race course at any time is prohibited. Riding backwards on the course is grounds for penalties of up to and including disqualification.

2: Courses in this event are considered a motocross style track that can be negotiated by a DB, ATV, TK or UTV. The course will be open to for designated practice under facility guidelines. Participants are permitted to walk or bicycle the course only unless a practice session has been authorized by a DS Race Official. If a rider leaves the course for any reason he/she must re-enter the course where he/she left or as close to that spot without gaining any position on another racer. Riders must remain within the designated course.

3: Riding backwards on the course is grounds for immediate disqualification.

PROTESTS

1: Only DS Race Director, with or without protest, has the right to penalize, fine, disqualify, and/or suspend any vehicle or entrant for violation of any DS rules.

2: All protests must be in writing and a $300 deposit must accompany the protest letter and delivered to the race director. In the event that the protest is upheld, the racer/vehicle in question must then fix the said issue and will be fined $300 and DQ’d from the race round involved. The protestor will receive their deposit back. However, if the protest is invalid, the protestor then forfeits the deposit amount to DS and must pay to have vehicle reassembled to its original state.

RULE INFRACTIONS/PENALTIES

1: The following legend of infraction penalties is a guideline used by DS in accessing penalties. These guidelines are not meant to infer that these are the only possible infractions or penalties that may be assessed against any entrant participating in a DS sponsored event.

A. Race vehicle traveling on the racecourse in the reverse direction of the race, at any time: Disqualification.

B. Pit support vehicles traveling on or non-authorized spectators or racer crewmembers entering on the racecourse at any time: Disqualification.

C. Abusive conduct toward a race official: Disqualification, suspension, five hundred dollar ($500) fine or any combination of the three. DS discretion

D. Short coursing: Disqualification.

E. DQ's are non-droppable and will count towards championships.

F. DQ's for a machine cc infraction will mean loss of all points from said class for race season. DS discretion

G. Outside assistance anywhere other than in designated pit area: DS discretion.

RIDERS

1: Only entrants that are listed on official DS entry form may ride the vehicle for which they are registered. No entrant may ride any vehicle for which they are not registered unless approved by Race Director.

2: The Dirt Series reserves the right to change race vehicle numbers and/or background colors.

3: The rider must sign all entry forms and releases in person during the registration period to be eligible for points, contingencies, purse etc. during that event. Identification may be required.

PITS

ABSOLUTELY NO PIT RIDING OR HOT LAPPING PERMITTED!! ~~KIDS & ADULTS!!

ANYONE FOUND PLAY RIDING IN THE PITS WILL BE DISQUALIFIED WITHOUT A REFUND. NO EXCEPTIONS.

1: At all times the rider assumes responsibility for the actions of their pit crew members, support crews, and all others associated with their organization. All pitting must be done in the designated pit area. No rider is allowed to carry gasoline except inside his/her machine's gasoline tank. No vehicle shall be towed, pushed, pulled or transported by a non-race entered vehicle on the official course while an event is still in progress. Another race entered vehicle or an official DS vehicle may push, pull or tow the race-entered vehicle up to the nearest pit stop checkpoint. Only the vehicle occupant at the time of breakdown may push the vehicle through the finish line. No other person or persons will be permitted to assist in pushing, pulling or towing the vehicle. DS officials may assist the vehicle occupants if it is deemed necessary for the protection of the entrants.

2: Any pit support vehicle running on or near the racecourse will result in the entrant being disqualified. Any pit vehicle running backwards on the racecourse will course race vehicle to be disqualified.

3: All young children and pets must be kept out of the pit area. Pets must be kept on a leash. All campfires must be kept out of immediate pit area. Campfires may not be permitted due to federal and state regulations. Each track may vary.

4: All entrants are responsible for cleaning the pit areas they use during the vent.

5: Any pit crewmembers disregarding these rules will subject their rider to disqualification.

TECHNICAL INSPECTION

1: IT IS THE ENTRANTS', RIDERS', OWNERS' AND SPONSORS' FULL RESONSIBILITY TO MEET ALL DS RULES AND REGULATIONS.

2: Entrants must make all reasonable effort to arrive to starting gate prior to start of race.

3: DS reserves the right to subject a random technical/mechanical inspection of any vehicle at the direction of the tech inspector or DS Director. In the event of a mechanical inspection, the rider will be responsible for removing or repairing the requested items to be inspected as directed. Failure to comply will result in disqualification of entrant and vehicle, and may result in suspension from future DS sponsored events.

COMPETITION

The regulations herein apply to all classes unless otherwise noted in supplementary or specific class regulations. Modifications or optional equipment is not permitted unless the class requirements or safety regulations specifically state that it will be permitted. DS intent when prescribing specifications for safety equipment for vehicles that will compete under DS rules is to provide reasonable protection to all entrants, pit crews, officials and spectators. DS encourages all entrants to give full attention to safety requirements. Entrants must wear approved helmet, protective clothing, eye protection and safety equipment when operating a vehicle on the racecourse at any time

SAFETY EQUIPMENT (DB and ATV only. Please refer to UTV/TK General Rules Package below for full details)

1: Helmets - Helmets must be of the type approved by the Snell Memorial foundation, with a Snell or D.O.T sticker attached 2007 or newer. Straps must have D - ring fasteners only. No snaps or Velcro will be permitted. The interior and exterior areas of the helmet must be free of defects (i.e., the padding must be in good condition and the exterior of the helmet must not be damaged.) DS requires that entrants use helmets specifically designed for racing.

2: Protective Gear - Protective gear and accessories are required which includes but not limited to gloves, race pants, race jersey, knee guards, chest protector, neck brace, neck collar or other safety gear designed for off road motorsports.

3: Race Collars/Neck Brace – All minors registered to race are recommended to wear a neck collar or neck brace during race event. Non-minor registered racers are recommended to wear a neck collar or neck brace but it is not mandatory.

4: Eye protection - Shatter resistant eye protection is required for all motorcycle/atv/utv/trophy kart entrants competing in a DS event.

5: Emergency Kill Switch - All ATV's must have a tether cord kill switch.

6: Nerf bars/heal guards – All ATVs are highly recommended to run nerf bars/heal guards.

RACE VEHICLE NUMBERS

All vehicles in competition must be identified with the corresponding vehicle numbers and be displayed in a visible manner on the siding, front or rear areas. NOTE: DS assumes no responsibility for scoring vehicles with unrecognizable numbers. It is the vehicle rider/drivers responsibility to have proper numbers and for keeping numbers recognizable.

Only Dirt Series registrants have the ability to change a number if a duplicate comes about.

DISQUALIFICATION

1: Drinking intoxicating beverages in designated pits, on the racecourse or in the surrounding areas by any person is strictly forbidden. The use of narcotics (amphetamines or any other stimulants, barbiturates or other depressants) is forbidden. Any entrant or crewmember in an event that shows evidence whatsoever of being under the influence of any of aforementioned shall be subject to suspensions from all future DS sponsored events. Violator must leave the premises immediately at the direction of the race director.

2: Any entrant who makes false statement on a contingency or entry form shall be disqualified and shall forfeit all prize money, points and all contingencies won in the race. Entrant may also be suspended from future events for a period of one year.

3: Any entry application containing a falsified signature will cause entrant to be disqualified and shall forfeit all prize money, points and contingencies won in that event. Entrant may also be suspended from future events for a period of one year.

4: Any entrant disqualified from any event for a reason whatsoever forfeits any and all rights to prize money, points and contingencies Entrant will no be entitled to a refund of all or any portion of his/her entry fee.

5: Any entrant, respective pit crews or support crews seen or reported traveling on the course in other then race-registered vehicles participating in the event before the end of the official race time limit may subject entrant to penalties of disqualification and/or suspension.

6: Riders/Drivers are responsible for all actions of the following: Parents, kids, guardians, guests, families, pit crews and pets of the above.

7: Though there is no outside assistance permitted on the course or near the course during the race event, DS retains the right to assess each situation and respond accordingly. (Situations involving safety are at the discretion of the race directory.) In the event a vehicle breaks down on the course, DS will allow for reasonable effort to re-enter the race as long as time permits and safety is not an issue.

8: Any race entrant or their support personnel who subject any DS official, other race entrants or their support personnel to verbal threats and/or physical abuse will be brought before the director. The director will make the decision of disqualification and/or suspension of the rider and the offending support personnel for said offenses. Acts of physical abuse may be reported to the proper authorities and may lead to legal action.

9: Deliberate vehicle contact shall be reason for penalty, disqualification and/or suspension at the direction of the director.

10: If a racer is DSQed for a displacement violation all points for that class will be forfeited for the season.

11: DSQ's are non-droppable and will count towards championship points.

ABILITY CLASSIFICATION

RIDERS AND CLASSIFICATIONS

It is the riders’/drivers’ responsibility to determine if he/she is capable of competing at a series listed class. Racers who move forward or back a class after registering in a higher or lower class without permission will be subject to suspension or other disciplinary action.

The Dirt Series reserves the right to move any racer who is unable or deemed to be a hazard to other riders in the class, or incapable of competing at that level. The Dirt Series also reserves the right to determine if a racer is more advanced in the current class for which needs to be moved up to allow for good competition.

SOUND REQUIREMENT

Most local SoCal tracks are under a noise law of 96Db and shall be followed in every instant. DS discretion.

RADIO COMMUNICATIONS

Radio communications are recommended for UTV and Trophy Kart classes only. One or Two-way radios Ok.

POINTS SCHEDULE

1) For 2017 we will continue our standard process to qualify for year-end prizes. Our series runs a 2-moto format each round and 9 rounds a year which equals 18 total motos for the season. Each racer will need to race a minimum 6 of 9 rounds or 13 of the 18 motos to qualify for overall. No dropped rounds for any class. Point scale will be scored on each moto.

2) A Double Points round, if any, will be denoted with an asterisk (**) thus all points as defined below will be doubled in accordance to the position.

3) Ties for a class championship will be broken down by the most first place finishes first, then by the most second place finishes, and then by the best finish in the final race if necessary.

4) Bumped rider/driver points will be determined by DS once the racer has asked to be bumped up or down. Riders who move themselves up must ask in writing to have their points moved. Please send email to dirtseriesracing@

Full personal safety gear must be worn to include:

• 1-layer, 1-piece SFI 3.2A/1 Fire retardant suits or higher must be worn that covers from neck to ankles to wrists.

• Head and Neck restraint device or approved safety collar designed specifically for a harnessed race vehicle.

• Full-face helmets with a Lexan shield are required (Snell, SFI, FIA approved. 2005-newer). If open face helmet, goggles must be worn. Racing type shoes or boots required.

• Motorcycle type race gear will NOT be allowed, as it is extremely flammable.

Tech & Safety check will be in full affect every round.

It is your responsibility to conform to these rules, regulations and safety standards

The following rules are intended to provide a cost effective, competitive fun entry level off road racing classes for the UTV & Trophy Kart racers. If there is not a rule here specifically allowing a modification from stock, it cannot be modified.

UTV Open 800: Open UTV 850cc max

UTV Production 1000: Prod 1000cc max

UTV Pro Production 1000: Prod 1000 cc max

UTV Unlimited: Heavily modified UTV 1000cc max

UTVR-1 MARKING AND IDENTIFICATION

A. All vehicles must have clearly displayed numbers

B. Dirt Series officials may require a competitor to use a different number to avoid confusion or duplication at an event.

C. In the event that a vehicle number is not visible from the timing and scoring area, the competitor will not be scored. It is the competitor’s responsibility to make sure that the number is visible during all race conditions

D. Advertising on race vehicles must be in good taste.

F. All vehicles are recommended to have Dirt Series stickers on each side of the front of the door area, below the window opening.

G. Dirt Series does not require the use of specific sponsor decals.

H. Team vehicles with the same paint and colors must have distinguishing markings of some kind.

UTVR-2 EQUIPMENT

A. No passenger is allowed on the race vehicle any time the vehicle is in motion.

B. Race vehicles will not be allowed on the racetrack without safety and emergency equipment on the premises.

C. No race vehicle is permitted on the track without approval from a Dirt Series official.

D. No driver will compete in any event with his/her head or arm extended outside of the vehicle.

E. Additions to the body of the race vehicle, such as fins, scoops, wings, and other extruding additions will not be permitted.

UTVR-3 DRIVER’S WEAR

A. One-piece driver suits are required. The suits must cover from the neck to the ankles and to the wrists. All suits must have the SFI label attached and meet SFI Spec 3-2A/1 or higher.

B. Drivers must wear gloves and shoes or boots. Its recommended to purchase gloves or shoes SFI Spec 3.3/1 or higher and have the SFI label attached.

C. All driver apparel must be clean, in good condition, and free from rips or worn areas.

D. When applicable, the designated Dirt Series patch may be sewn to the suit on the upper front breast area, no more than six inches from the top of driver’s shoulder. Other racing sanctioning body patches or decals can be worn on the suit.

UTVR-4 HELMETS

A. Full face helmets with a Lexan shield or an open-faced motocross designed helmet is required.

B. Helmets must be certified to one or more of the following standards:

1. DOT or Snell Memorial Foundation SA 2005 or better with a legible DOT/Snell sticker attached.

2. SFI Spec 31.1/2005 or Youth helmet SFI Spec 24.1 with a legible SFI sticker attached.

3. FIA 8868 with a legible FIA sticker attached.

UTVR-5 EYE PROTECTION

A. It is required that drivers wear eye protection in the form of Lexan shields. If wearing an open face motocross designed helmet, shatterproof goggles specifically designed for racing must be worn.

UTVR-6 SEATS

A. Only OEM or manufactured race seats are permitted. Full containment seats are highly recommended. Plastic seats are not allowed.

B. All seats must be securely mounted to frame of vehicle and be properly reinforced in such a manner as to keep seat from moving in relationship to frame.

UTVR-7 SEAT BELTS AND SHOULDER HARNESSES

A. All vehicles must have a heavy-duty type five-point fast release latch 3-inch minimum width seat belt, anti-submarine strap, and 2-inch minimum width shoulder straps with metal-to metal buckles and connectors for each occupant. The five-point harness system shall consist of 1 anti-submarine strap, 1 seat belt, and 2 shoulder straps. Harness material shall be made of nylon or Dacron polyester.

B. Shoulder straps must be mounted behind the driver’s seat and be located a maximum of 4 inches below the top of the driver’s shoulders. Seat belt should be mounted a minimum of 2.5 inches forward of the intersection of the back of the seat and the sitting portion of the seat. All adjustment buckles must be a minimum of 1.5inches from the seat to prevent loosening or chafing. Mounting hardware must be a minimum of ⅜ inch grade 8 steel bolts.

C. When bolting through the body or frame, flat washers, lock nuts, and cotter keys must be used. All harness hardware must be safety tied. If wrap around shoulder harnesses are used, care must be taken to prevent them from slipping and chafing on sharp frame components.

D. Lap belts must be bolted or clipped in and cannot be looped around lower frame tube.

E. No push button type harnesses permitted.

F. Sternum straps are not allowed.

G. No “Y” type shoulder belts permitted.

H. Seat belts must be certified to SFI specs 16.1 or 16.5 and dated by the manufacturer. Belts must not be used beyond two years after stated date.

I. Seat belts may be rejected by Dirt Series officials if dirty, frayed, oily, greasy, or otherwise considered unsafe by officials.

UTVR-8 HEAD AND NECK RESTRAINTS

A. Head and neck restraints are mandatory for all UTV classes any time a vehicle is on the track.

1. R3 Hans Hybrid, Z-Tech Series 1A or other restraint certified to SFI Spec 38.1 with a legible sticker attached are allowed.

2. The head and neck restraint, when connected, must be mounted, configured, maintained and used in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.

3. It is the responsibility of the driver to ensure that his/her restraint is correctly installed, maintained and properly used.

UTVR-9 ROLL BAR PADDING

A. Any roll bar that may come in contact with the driver must be covered with roll bar padding.

B. Dirt Series highly recommends that all roll bar padding be certified to SFI spec 45.1 or better.

UTVR-10 SAFETY NETS

A. Race designed and commercially made window nets are mandatory on all UTVs and must cover the complete open area of the window. If a passenger is aboard, passenger side window of the vehicle also.

B. Nets must be installed on the inside of the roll cage to prevent them from being damaged or coming off in the event of a roll over or slide. If nets are installed so that occupants can release the net from the inside, the latch must be located at the front top of the window opening.

C. The net border and attachment must be made of materials that are as strong as or stronger than the net itself.

D. Net attachments must be placed no more than every 5 inches apart. Acceptable attachments may include but are not limited to: hose clamps, snaps, heavy-duty nylon ties, metal hooks, and steel rods. Steel rods are acceptable methods of bottom fastening.

E. Triangle style roll cage (helmet) nets are recommended on both sides of the driver’s seat.

UTVR-11 Roll Cage & Chassis

A. All vehicles must utilize the stock chassis and maintain stock appearance. The stock chassis (frame) is defined as the main lower rails running along the inner sides of the UTV and the front and rear tubes that connect them. The chassis may be modified for durability and strength but must retain the stock width, length, and configuration. Any modifications must be pre-approved by Dirt Series officials.

B. Aftermarket, well built, roll cages made for racing are required. Factory stock roll cages will be allowed only if modified factory cages are reinforced and tied into rear bumper/frame at two points. Gusseting of the factory cage is highly recommended.

C. Cages must be constructed with one front vertical hoop, one rear vertical hoop, two interconnecting top bars, two rear down braces, one diagonal brace, and all necessary gussets.

1. Two top interconnecting bars must be placed as far to the outside of the top part of the front and rear hoops as possible.

2. Rear down braces and diagonal brace must angle a minimum of 30 degrees from vertical. At the bottom of the diagonal brace there must be a cross member of the same tubing material and dimensions as the hoop.

D. There must be a minimum of 3 inches clearance between driver’s helmet and roll cage.

E. Gussets must be installed at all major intersections, including diagonal and rear down braces, where single weld fractures can affect occupant’s safety.

F. Gussets may be constructed of minimum .090 inch x 3 inch x 3 inch flat plate or tubing gussets made of same material and thickness as roll cage.

G. Roll cage terminal ends must be attached to a frame or body member that will support maximum impact and not shear or allow more than 1 ½ inches of movement in the cage terminal end.

H. Minimum tubing diameter and thickness is 1 ½ inch diameter by .095. This includes the front to back mid rail shoulder bar.

I. Roll cage material must be DOM or 4130 chromoly.

J. All tubing, welds, gussets, and roll cage construction must be approved by Dirt Series.

K. Entire roof must be covered with sheet metal or .063 inch minimum aluminum.

L. OPEN: All vehicles must utilize the stock chassis unless aftermarket chassis has been approved by Dirt Series.

M. OPEN & Unlimited:

1. No bolts on connections to chassis are allowed. All joints must be welded and attached to the frame securely.

2. Top left half of roll cage above driver’s head must have one 1 ½ inch x .095 inch ‘X’ diagonal bracing bars and/or be covered with .125 inch minimum aluminum plate.

3. If plate is used, a single diagonal bar is sufficient.

4. Plate must be attached with 2 bolts on each of the four sides.

N. Pro & Production 1000:

1. 1 ¾ inch chromolly tubing is highly recommended for main roll cage tubes.

2. One front to back center bar is required in top cage. Top left half of roll main cage above driver’s head must have one 1-½ inch x .095 inch diagonal bracing bar.

3. It is recommended that stock cage mounts and seat belt mounting plates be reinforced.

UTVR-12 Doors

A. Fully enclosed door side panels are required or aftermarket lockable side protection doors must be mounted in a way as to not be able to pop open during racing. Full door area netting recommended in case door becomes ajar. Door area must be covered with sheet metal or a minimum of .050-inch thick aluminum. Panel must be attached with bolts or dzus buttons.

B. OPEN 800: Doors must have ‘X’, ‘A’ or Ladder design bracing designed to provide maximum protection to the driver.

1. X or A designs must use a minimum 1 ½ inch diameter by .095, 4130 chromoly or DOM.

2. Ladder design must use a minimum 1 ½ inch diameter by .095 for main rails and 1 ¼ inch by .095 for rungs.

C. Unlimited, Pro & Production 1000: Door opening must have a ‘U’ shaped tube bent to follow the door opening. Tube must be a minimum 1 ¼ inch diameter by .095, 4103 chromoly or DOM.

1. Doors must have ‘X’, ‘A’, ‘V’ or Ladder design bracing designed to provide maximum protection to the driver.

2. X, A or V designs must use a minimum 1 ¼ inch diameter by .095, 4130 chromoly or DOM.

3. Ladder design must use a minimum 1 ¼ inch diameter by .095 for main rails and 1 ¼ inch by .095 for rungs.

UTVR-13 Driver Compartment

A. Driver must be able to enter and exit, unassisted and with great ease, the driving compartment with the vehicle in any position. Firewalls and/or bulkheads must separate the driving compartment from any fuels, engine fluids, and acids.

B. OPEN 800, Pro, Production 1000 & Unlimited:

1. Race seat is recommended. Driver’s seat must be in stock location and be bolted in.

2. Seat may be lowered. Stock plastic panel below seat to floor may not be cut down or trimmed with the exception of minimal holes allowed for seat tabs or mounting of seat. Minimal trimming may be allowed in the case of full containment seats. This must be pre-approved by Dirt Series.

3. If no passenger seat is used, gas tank area must be completely covered with aluminum firewall.

4. Stock dash and all floor and interior panels in stock location are required. Minimal cuts or openings are allowed for roll cage and tabs. Glove box and door and center foam lined storage box may be removed.

UTVR-14 Measurements & Weight (This rule will only be performed when instruments and gauges are available trackside. Be advised to follow by these rules at all times though!)

A. All measurements will be performed with technical instruments and gauges when available. Dirt Series officials will determine all measurements and center points.

B. Driver will be included in race vehicle’s minimum weight.

C. Vehicles can be courtesy weighed prior to competition.

D. Dirt Series officials must approve all weight material.

E. Added weight must be in block form.

F. Blocks must weigh no less than 5 pounds each and cannot be made of liquid of any type, pellets, or other granulated weight.

G. Added weight must be securely bolted in place on the race vehicle.

H. Dislodged weight cannot be returned to the vehicle for weighing at the end of the race.

I. All block ballast must be painted white and identified with vehicle number.

J. Weight can be sealed at the discretion of Dirt Series officials.

K. No weight shifting devices of any kind are allowed. This includes, but is not limited to hydraulic or electronic devices.

L. All vehicles will weigh in before and/or after competition at the discretion of Dirt Series officials. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.

M. All weight loss on track will result in a $5.00 per pound fee.

N. OPEN & Unlimited: The maximum overall wheelbase from spindle to spindle can be increased to 8 inches over stock dimensions. The minimum vehicle weight is 1400 pounds including driver.

O. Pro: The minimum vehicle weight is 1600 pounds including driver.

P. Production 1000: 2014 RZR: 1625 pounds including driver. 2015 RZR: 1675 pounds including driver. Weight may be adjusted at the discretion of Dirt Series officials throughout the season in the interest of competition.

UTVR-15 Fenders

A. Fenders must be securely attached to vehicle. The removal of fenders during competition during any reason other than damage incurred during the race will result in disqualification.

B. Fenders must be attached in such a fashion as not to create a pointed or sharp extrusion when removed. A loop body mounting bracket construction is mandatory.

C. Additions to the body of the race vehicle, such as fins, scoops, wings, and other extruding

additions will not be permitted.

D. Vehicles must maintain an appearance similar to the stock UTV.

E. OPEN & Unlimited: A loop body mounting bracket construction is mandatory.

F. Pro & Production 1000: All body panels must be stock or aftermarket stock replacement & be mounted in the stock location.

1. Two piece rear bed plastic may be removed or stock bed bottom and sides of bed may be cut out.

2. Rear taillight body panel is required. This may be OEM or fabricated from aluminum. If fabricated, panel must resemble stock part and be approved from Dirt Series tech.

3. Front headlights and rear taillights can be removed. Aluminum fill-in panels with stickers that look like lights are recommended.

UTVR-16 Bumpers

A. Vehicles must have front and rear bumpers. Dirt Series officials must approve all bumpers.

B. No hazardous bumpers, nerf bars, frame heads or other protruding objects from vehicles are permitted.

C. Rear bumper must be secured to frame using a minimum 1 ½ inch diameter .095 chromoly.

D. Bumpers must be designed in such a way as to inhibit two vehicles from becoming locked together.

E. Ends must be capped and rounded with no sharp edges.

F. OPEN & Unlimited: Vehicles must have front and rear bumpers. Rear bumper must be secured to frame using a minimum 1 ½ inch diameter .095 chromoly. Minimum front bumper width is 35 inches. Side nerf bars are recommended.

G. Pro & Production 1000: Side nerf bars guards are recommended. Bumpers are optional at this time but are highly recommended. If bumpers are used, above bumper rules must be followed.

UTVR-17 Skid Plates/Floorboards

A. Skid plates designed to reasonably protect the front suspension, steering, and brake components are recommended on all vehicles. Plates must be made of metal and be securely attached.

B. Stock UTV floorboards are acceptable but extra protection made of metal or aluminum is highly recommended.

UTVR-18 Suspension

A. All A-arm mounting points must remain in the stock location and position as delivered from the manufacturer, however they may be reinforced for strength.

B. Pro & Prod 1000: Aftermarket stock length replacement arms and links may be used. Rear sway bar manufacturer and mount location is open. Front sway bar is allowed.

UTVR-19 Steering

A. All steering components must be in good condition and proper working order. Drag link and tie rod ends must be secured with a cotter pin in each one.

B. Power steering is permitted.

C. Pro & Prod 1000: Aftermarket replacement steering rack and tie rods are allowed.

UTVR-20 Shocks

A. There must be at least one and only one shock absorber per wheel in working condition at the start of the race.

B. Shock absorber mounting points may be moved.

C. OPEN & Unlimited: Shock absorber mounting points may be moved.

D. Pro & Production 1000: Shock mounts must remain in stock location. No bolt on extensions. No bypass shocks. Shock manufacturer is open.

UTVR-21 Bump Stops

A. Suspension bump stops are allowed and must be of the solid type.

UTVR-22 Torsion System

A. The only torsion system that is acceptable is a coil-over shock.

UTVR-23 Wheel Spacers

A. Wheel spacers are permitted.

UTVR-24 Brakes

A. Brakes must be in safe working condition and be able to apply adequate force to lock up all four tires. Brakes must remain in safe working condition during entire event.

B. Turning or cutting brakes are not permitted.

C. Pro & Prod 1000: Aftermarket brakes are allowed.

UTVR-25 Engine

A. All vehicles must use stock engine cases and cylinder head. Dirt Series reserves the right to mark engine blocks prior to event.

B. All vehicles must use same fuel delivery system as stock and designed by factory. Electric fuel pumps are permitted

C. Unlimited UTV: Engine displacement not to exceed 1050 cc.

D. UTV OPEN 800: Engine displacement not to exceed 850cc

E. Pro & Production 1000: Engines must remain completely stock. No internal modifications. Stock throttle body must be used.

UTVR-26 Superchargers & Turbochargers

A. OPEN, Pro & Production 1000: Superchargers, nitrous or turbochargers are not permitted.

B. Unlimited UTV: Aftermarket or Factory installed turbochargers are allowed.

UTVR-27 Auxiliary Equipment

A. All vehicles must start race with a functional generator or alternator, fan, water pump (water-cooled vehicles), and a complete functional electrical system.

UTVR-28 Ignition

A. All vehicles must have a positive action on/off switch in good working order. Switch must be labeled “ignition on/off”, have a red circle around it, be located on the left hand side of the dash panel, and must be accessible from the outside of the race vehicle. Red circle must be at least 1 inch wide.

B. All electric fuel pumps with independent switches must be labeled “fuel on/off” and be within easy reach of the driver and accessible from the outside of the vehicle.

C. Aftermarket CDI boxes/ECUs are permitted

D. OPEN & Unlimited: Ignition switch must be located on the left hand side of the dash panel, and must be accessible from the outside of the race vehicle.

E. Pro & Production 1000: Stock ignition switch is allowed. ECU is open.

UTVR-29 Batteries

A. Batteries must be securely mounted with metal-to-metal tie downs.

B. Wetted fiber or gel cell batteries only. Liquid lead acid batteries are not permitted.

C. Batteries may be located in the driver’s compartment with an adequate firewall or factory engine cover.

UTVR-30 Cooling

A. Oil coolers, transmission coolers, and radiators located ahead of the driver or in the passenger compartment must have a shroud that will prevent liquids from blowing back or leaking onto the driver in the event of a rupture or leakage.

B. All hoses running through the driver compartment must be shielded. Steel braided hose does not constitute a shield.

C. Radiator may be relocated to back behind passenger cab area. If radiator is mounted close to driver, panels are required to keep hot coolant off of driver.

UTVR-31 Exhaust

A. OPEN & Unlimited: Exhaust systems must be a minimum of 6 inches away from fuel lines and 18 inches away from fuel filler. Muffler must meet a maximum decibel of 100 as measured 50 feet from trackside.

B. Pro & Production 1000: Aftermarket exhaust is allowed.

UTVR-32 Starter

A. All vehicles must be self-starting by use of an onboard electric starter.

UTVR-33 Engine Replacement

A. Engines may be replaced during a Dirt Series event only if competitor has notified Dirt Series officials.

B. Engine change may result in a starting position change.

UTVR-34 Fuel Cells (Dirt Series does not require Fuel Cells. You will be required to run a fuel cell if you plan to compete in Lucas Oil Regional. Below is the LORORS Rule)

A. All fuel cells must be approved.

B. Series will reject any previously approved fuel cell, which appears to be defective, damaged, or not in proper condition.

C. No pressure systems will be allowed. Any concealed or not concealed pressure type containers, feed lines or actuating mechanisms will not be permitted, even if inoperable.

D. Icing, Freon type chemicals, or refrigerants may not be used in or near the fuel system.

E. The use of a commercially manufactured fuel cell is mandatory. Aluminum cans with foam inside are not allowed.

F. Safety fuel cells shall consist of a bladder enclosed in a smooth skinned container. The container shall be constructed of 20 gauge steel, 0.060-inch aluminum or 0.125-inch Marlex. Rotary molded polymer cells are acceptable.

G. No material other than standard foam as provided by the fuel cell manufacturer is permitted.

H. Fuel cell must have a chassis or body cross member of substance between the fuel cell and driver and be protected from ground obstacles.

I. Fuel cells must be dated from manufacturer. Fuel cells will become obsolete five years after date of manufacture and must be replaced.

J. All fuel cell fillers and vents must have check valves installed.

K. Fuel filler lines and positive-locking non-vented fuel filler caps must be located and secured in such a manner as to prevent them from being knocked off or opened during movement, rollover, or impact.

L. A splash shield must be in place to direct any spill away from the driver, motor, and motor exhaust. A body panel is considered a sufficient splash shield.

M. Fuel cell cannot be vented into the driver’s compartment of any vehicle.

N. All mountings must be approved. Fuel cell must be mounted to chassis and cannot be mounted on skid plate.

O. Any fuel cell mounted in the passenger compartment area must be fully enclosed with sheet metal or aluminum.

P. An 8 inch by 8 inch fire access door is required on top of the fuel cell cover. This door must be painted red and labeled FIRE DOOR.

Q. Any battery or electrical components mounted in the passenger compartment with the fuel cell must be separated by sheet metal or aluminum.

R. RZR XP & Production 1000: Stock fuel tank is allowed in stock location. Tank, lines and fuel filler may not be modified in any way.

UTVR- 35 Fuel

A. Fuel shall be automotive or racing type only.

B. Gasoline shall not be blended with alcohols, ethers, or other oxygenates, and it shall not be blended with aniline or its derivatives, nitrous compounds, or their nitrogen containing compounds.

C. Cooling of any type of fuel is not permitted during competition.

D. In the event an “official fuel” is named, Dirt Series will sample the actual fuel provided at the track by the fuel supplier and that sample will become the benchmark from which all competitors samples will be judged.

E. Dirt Series has the right to sample a competitor’s fuel at any time. All samples will be impounded for observation and/or testing by Dirt Series or outside laboratories at Dirt Series discretion.

F. No nitrous oxide.

G. If Dirt Series officials suspect maskers in the fuel, chemical testing will be conducted at possible expense to the competitor.

H. Penalties for use of hazardous chemicals will be severe including fine, and/or reduction of points, and/or suspension.

UTVR-36 Transmission

A. OPEN, Unlimited, Pro & Production 1000:

1. Every vehicle must use the stock transmission and clutch design.

2. The stock rear differential must also be used.

3. All vehicles must have a functional reverse gear.

4. Aftermarket axles and c/v joints are allowed.

UTVR-37 Clutch

A. Pro & Production 1000: Must use stock clutch and design as delivered from manufacturer. No billet or aftermarket clutches. Clutches may not be modified in any way. After market springs, weights and helix are allowed. OPEN 800 & Unlimited are open.

UTVR-38 Wheels & Tires

A. Maximum tire size is 30 inches outside diameter on 1000 UTVs, 28 inches outside diameter for 900 and below.

B. No more than 1 tire per corner is permitted.

C. Tires will be visually checked and must be considered reasonably safe by Dirt Series prior to competing.

D. All bead locks must have recessed bolts only that do not protrude past the face of the ring. Button head bolts may be used if bead lock bolt area cannot be recessed.

UTVR-39 Fasteners

A. All components on the vehicle’s suspension system, chassis, and running gear must be secured with S.A.E. Grade 8 or better nuts and bolts.

B. Bolts must be secured with either lock nuts, lock washers, cotter pins, or safety wire and have at least one full thread showing through the nut.

UTVR-40 Hoses

A. All fuel and brake line hoses including metal lines and fittings must be clamped and/or safety wired.

UTVR-41 Mirrors

A. Rear view mirror with at least 6 square inches of mirror surface and a reasonably unobstructed view of area behind vehicle is recommended on all vehicles.

UTVR-42 Exotic Materials

A. No titanium or any other exotic materials or fasteners may be used anywhere in the vehicle.

UTVR-43 Transponders/Timing

A. Remote score timing devices will not be permitted by teams, owners, or anyone associated with an entry, unless approved by Dirt Series.

B. All teams will either rent or purchase a remote timing transponder before or during registration when applicable. Transponders can only be purchased through Dirt Series and numbers must be recorded with Dirt Series officials. All rented transponders will be returned after each race clean and functional. If rented transponder is not returned after race, racer may forfeit points earned and be charged $300.

C. If you have purchased an approved Dirt Series transponder all drivers are responsible for the charging and installation of their transponder as well as checking in with trackside registration to notify of your approved transponder. Any entry without a Dirt Series approved, properly installed, functioning transponder may not be scored and may be subject to further penalty.

D. Transponders must be mounted 10 inches back from the leading edge of the front bumper on the passenger side.

E. In most cases, the above rule only applies when transponders are present for scoring for that event. Dirt Series most commonly uses the manual hand scoring process.

The aforementioned rules will apply to the Junior 1, Junior 2, and Modified Kart classes as well as the production model Polaris RZR 170 Junior UTV and UTV Open 200.

Junior 1 Karts: Custom built single seat mini race trucks with Subaru spec 266cc engine driven by children ranging in age from 5-15 years.

Junior 2 Karts: Custom built single seat mini race trucks with Honda spec 390cc engine driven by children ranging in age from 5-15 years.

Modified Karts: Custom built single seat mini race truck with 250 or 450 cc motor cycle/quad engine driven by young adults ranging in age from 12+ years.

RZR 170 UTV: Production built two seat mini UTV with a 4-Stroke Single Cylinder, 169cc Max, Carbureted engines driven by children ranging in age from 5-15 years.

RZR 170 Open & UTV Open 200: Open class Prod and custom built mini UTVs with max 250cc engines driven by children ranging in age from 5-15 years.

All new Trophy Karts must be of same basic design as current vehicles and must be approved by Dirt Series prior to competition.

TK170R-1 MARKING AND IDENTIFICATION

A. All vehicles must have clearly displayed numbers

B. Dirt Series officials may require a competitor to use a different number to avoid confusion or duplication at an event.

C. In the event that a vehicle number is not visible from the timing and scoring area, the competitor will not be scored. It is the competitor’s responsibility to make sure that the number is visible during all race conditions

D. Advertising on race vehicles must be in good taste.

F. All vehicles are recommended to have Dirt Series stickers on each side of the front of the door area, below the window opening.

G. Dirt Series does not require the use of specific sponsor decals.

H. Team vehicles with the same paint and colors must have distinguishing markings of some kind.

TK170R-2 NUMBERS

A. Kart numbers are recommend to be followed by each class but not required:

1. Junior 1 – Ages 5-15 – Numbers 200-299

2. Junior 2 – Ages 5-15 – Numbers 400-499

3. Modified – Ages 10-17 – Numbers 500-599

4. RZR 170/Open 200 – Ages 5-15 – Numbers open

B. All numbers must be block style only.

C. Numbers must be side by side. No outlines, stacking or shadows allowed. Italic slant of 25 degrees or less is allowed.

D. Fonts must be chosen from one of the below approved styles only:

1. Impact

2. Helvetica Black

3. Mechanical Bold

E. Numbers will be located in the following positions:

1. (1) number plate on each side, high and close to the back of the cab

a. Number plates must be white and measure at least 8 inches high and 10 inches wide.

b. Numbers on plate must be solid black and measure at least 7 inches high.

2. Roof -12 inch minimum height

3. Driver’s side visor – 4-inch minimum height

4. (1) number plate on back of vehicle facing rear.

a. Number plate must be white and measure at least 7 inches high and 10 inches wide.

b. Number on plate must be solid black and measure at least 6 inches high.

TK170R-3 DRIVER MEDICAL ATTENTION

A. If a competitor requires medical attention, by track or other medical teams, the medical technician must release competitor before he/she may return to competition. Failure to comply with advice of the medical technician will result in disqualification from competition for the remainder of the event.

B. If a driver loses consciousness at anytime during an event, the driver cannot compete for at least 7 days or must be cleared by doctor before returning to competition.

TK170R-4 EQUIPMENT

A. No passenger is allowed on the race vehicle any time the vehicle is in motion.

B. Race vehicles will not be allowed on the racetrack without safety and emergency equipment on the premises.

C. No race vehicle is permitted on the track without approval from a Dirt Series official.

D. No driver will compete in any event with his/her head or arm extended outside of the vehicle.

E. Additions to the body of the race vehicle, such as fins, scoops, wings, and other extruding additions will not be permitted.

TK170R-5 DRIVER’S WEAR

A. One-piece driver suits are required. The suits must cover from the neck to the ankles and to the wrists. All suits must have the SFI label attached and meet SFI Spec 3-2A/1 or higher.

B. Drivers must wear gloves and shoes or boots. Its recommended to purchase gloves or shoes SFI Spec 3.3/1 or higher and have the SFI label attached.

C. All driver apparel must be clean, in good condition, and free from rips or worn areas.

D. When applicable, the designated Dirt Series patch may be sewn to the suit on the upper front breast area, no more than six inches from the top of driver’s shoulder. Other racing sanctioning body patches or decals can be worn on the suit.

TK170R-6 HELMETS

A. Full face helmets with a Lexan shield or an open faced motocross designed helmet is required.

B. Helmets must be certified to one or more of the following standards:

1. DOT or Snell Memorial Foundation SA 2005 or better with a legible DOT/Snell sticker attached.

2. SFI Spec 31.1/2005 or Youth helmet SFI Spec 24.1 with a legible SFI sticker attached.

3. FIA 8868 with a legible FIA sticker attached.

TK170R-7 EYE PROTECTION

A. It is required that drivers wear eye protection in the form of Lexan shields. If wearing an open face motocross designed helmet, shatterproof goggles specifically designed for racing must be worn.

TK170R-8 SEATS

A. Only OEM or manufactured race seats are permitted. Full containment seats are highly recommended. Plastic seats are not allowed.

B. Seats must be sized appropriately for driver’s height and weight (ie. Child sized seats).

C. All seats must be securely mounted to frame of vehicle and be properly reinforced in such a manner as to keep seat from moving in relationship to frame.

D. Headrests designed and installed to prevent whiplash are recommended on all vehicles. Headrest must be constructed of at least 2 inch thick resilient padding and be approximately 36 square inches in area.

E. Trophy Kart seat must be centered in vehicle +/- 2 inches. RZR 170/Open 200-seat design may remain the same.

F. If a footrest is used, it must support the whole shoe and have rounded edges. Short or single tubes are not permitted.

TK170R-9 SEAT BELTS AND SHOULDER HARNESSES

A. All vehicles must have a heavy-duty type five-point fast release latch 2-inch minimum width seat belt, anti-submarine strap, and 2-inch minimum width shoulder straps with metal-to metal buckles and connectors for each occupant. The five-point harness system shall consist of 1 anti-submarine strap, 1 seat belt, and 2 shoulder straps. Harness material shall be made of nylon or Dacron polyester.

B. Shoulder straps must be mounted behind the driver’s seat and be located a minimum of 4 inches below the top of the driver’s shoulders. Seat belt should be mounted a minimum of 2.5 inches forward of the intersection of the back of the seat and the sitting portion of the seat. All adjustment buckles must be a minimum of 1.5inches from the seat to prevent loosening or chafing. Mounting hardware must be a minimum of ⅜ inch grade 8 steel bolts.

C. When bolting through the body or frame, flat washers, lock nuts, and cotter keys must be used. All harness hardware must be safety tied. If wrap around shoulder harnesses are used, care must be taken to prevent them from slipping and chafing on sharp frame components.

D. Lap belts must be bolted or clipped in and cannot be looped around lower frame tube.

E. No push button type harnesses permitted.

F. Sternum straps are not allowed.

G. No “Y” type shoulder belts permitted.

H. Seat belts must be certified to SFI specs 16.1 or 16.5 and dated by the manufacturer. Belts must not be used beyond two years after stated date.

I. Seat belts may be rejected by Dirt Series officials if dirty, frayed, oily, greasy, or otherwise considered unsafe by officials.

TK170R-10 HEAD AND NECK RESTRAINTS

A. Head and neck restraints are mandatory for all youth classes any time a vehicle is on the track.

1. Z-Tech Series 1A, R3 Hans Device or other restraint certified to SFI Spec 38.1 with a legible sticker attached are allowed.

2. The head and neck restraint, when connected, must be mounted, configured, maintained and used in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.

3. It is the responsibility of the driver to ensure that his/her restraint is correctly installed, maintained and properly used.

TK170R-11 ROLL BAR PADDING

A. Any roll bar that may come in contact with the driver must be covered with roll bar padding.

B. Dirt Series highly recommends that all roll bar padding be certified to SFI spec 45.1 or better.

TK170R-12 SAFETY NETS

A. Dirt Series approved window nets are mandatory on all karts and RZR 170/Open 200 UTVs must cover the complete open area of the cockpit on both sides of the vehicle.

B. Nets must be installed on the inside of the roll cage to prevent them from being damaged or coming off in the event of a roll over or slide. If nets are installed so that occupants can release the net from the inside, the latch must be located at the front top of the window opening.

C. The net border and attachment must be made of materials that are as strong as or stronger than the net itself.

D. Net attachments must be placed no more than every 5 inches apart. Acceptable attachments may include but are not limited to: hose clamps, snaps, heavy-duty nylon ties, metal hooks, and steel rods. Steel rods are acceptable methods of bottom fastening.

E. Triangle style roll cage (helmet) nets are recommended on both sides of the driver’s seat.

TK170R-13 ARM RESTRAINTS

A. All karts must be equipped with approved arm restraints. Restraints must meet SFI spec 3.3 or better and be utilized anytime the driver is in the kart.

B. Modified Karts: If karts are equipped with A pillar nets, arm restraints are optional for this class. If A pillar nets are not used, arm restraints are required as stated above. RZR 170/Open 200 class is not required to be equipped with these features.

TK170R-14 CHASSIS/ROLL CAGE

A. All new designs must be approved by Dirt Series.

B. Chassis must be of a safe design and constructed with high quality welds.

C. Roll-cages must be designed and constructed with 1 front vertical hoop, 1 rear vertical hoop, 2 interconnecting top bars, 2 rear down braces, 1 diagonal brace and all necessary gussets. The 2 top interconnecting bars must be placed as far to the outside of the top part of the front and rear hoops as possible.

D. Optional: Top cage may use 2 vertical hoops on either side, 2 interconnecting top bars across the front and rear, and diagonal bracing.

E. Rear down braces and diagonal brace must angle a minimum of 30 degrees from vertical. At the bottom of the diagonal brace there must be a cross member of the same tubing material and dimensions as the hoop.

F. All roll-cage components (hoops, braces, gussets, etc.) must have a minimum of 3-inch clearance from the component to the driver’s helmet when seated in the normal riding position.

G. All intersecting points must be gusseted and braced. Roll cage terminal ends must be attached to a frame or body member that will support maximum impact and not shear or allow more than 1½ inches of movement in the cage terminal end.

H. Gussets must be installed at all major intersections, including diagonal and rear down braces, where single weld fractures can affect occupant’s safety.

I. 1.250” x .083” ROLL BAR TUBES ARE REQUIRED IN THE

MODIFIED CLASS AND ARE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED IN JUNIOR AND RZR 170 CLASSES.

J. No aluminum or other nonferrous materials are permitted.

K. Roll cage construction material may be crew, dom, whr, wcr, mild carbon steel or 4130 chromoly.

L. Dirt Series HIGHLY RECOMMENDS THE USE OF 4130 CHROMOLY or 1018/1012/ASTM/DOM.

M. All welds must be of high quality craftsmanship with good penetration and with no undercutting of parent material.

N. Oxy-acetylene brazing on roll-cage is strictly forbidden

O. The roof must be covered with sheet metal or .125” minimum aluminum. Dirt Series recommends the use of T-6 aluminum.

P. The roof sheet metal must be installed with a minimum of 6 evenly spaced 5/16 inch bolts, not protruding toward the driver.

Q. Clamped on roofs are not allowed.

R. All karts must be constructed with either an X roof or 2 bars extending from the A pillars to the center of the rear roll bar.

S. Modified Karts (also recommended for Jr 2 Karts):

1. 1.250” by .083” roll bar tubes are required on all new karts and on all karts that run a 450 cc engine.

2. Roll cage construction material must be 4130 chromoly on all new karts and on all karts that run a 450 cc engine.

TK170R-15 DOORS

A. All new karts and RZR 170/Open 200 must have ‘X’, ‘A’ or ‘Ladder’ design bracing in door area (designed to provide maximum protection to the driver).

B. ‘X’ or ‘A’ designs must use a minimum 1.0” by .083” tube 4130 chromoly or 1018/1012CDS/DOM.

C. ‘Ladder’ design must use a 1.0” by .083”tube for main rails and .750” by .083” for rungs.

D. RZR 170/Open 200 doors or side panels must be made of .090” T-6 aluminum.

TK170R-16 DRIVER COMPARTMENT

A. The driver must be able to enter and exit, unassisted and with great ease, the driving compartment with the kart or RZR 170 in any position.

B. The interior of the race vehicle must be completely enclosed by metal with a minimum thickness of .040” from front to rear. This includes both front and rear firewalls.

C. Floorboards must have a minimum thickness of .090” and must cover entire floor of driver compartment from pedals to back of seat. T-6 aluminum is recommended.

D. Firewalls and/or bulkheads must separate the driving compartment

from any fuels, engine fluids and acids. No holes or openings allowed.

E. Battery must be completely covered if mounted in the driving compartment.

F. Modified Karts:

1. It is recommended that driver compartment side panels be made of .090” T-6 aluminum.

G. RZR 170 UTV/Open 200:

1. Stock production driver compartment must install doors or side panels. Refer to rule 15

TK170R-17 MEASUREMENTS & WEIGHT

A. Karts and RZR 170/Open 200 UTVs must race at a minimum 6-inch ride height.

B. Measurements may be taken with driver in kart at post race technical inspection.

C. Wheelbase is measured on one side from center of the front wheel to the center of the rear wheel on the same side.

D. Track width is measured from outside of tire to outside of tire.

E. Overall length is measured from outside of front bumper to outside of rear bumper. The maximum overall length is 120 inches.

F. Additional weight may be added to meet minimum weight requirement.

1. Any added weight must be painted white, marked with kart number, and bolted to the floorboard close to the seat.

2. Weight may not be carried on drivers themselves.

G. Junior 1 Kart Measurements:

1. Maximum track width: 56¾ inches

2. Maximum wheelbase: 71 inches

3. Minimum kart weight: 585 pounds

H. Junior 2 Kart Measurements:

1. Maximum track width: 58 ½ inches

TK170R-18 BODY & FENDERS

A. All kart bodies are required.

B. Body can be multi piece.

C. All fender and body mounts must have loop ends. No single tubes or long brackets may be used.

D. The removal of fenders or body panels during competition for any reason other than damage incurred during the event will result in a 1-lap penalty.

TK170R-19 MUD FLAPS

A. Modified Karts:

1. All Modified Karts must run rear mud flaps made from 3/16 rubber material.

2. Mud flaps must be at least 12 inches wide and cover the entire rear tire.

3. Mud flaps must extend to within 3 inches of the ground.

4. Mud flaps must be securely mounted with bolts and fender washers to resist folding back or tearing.

5. Mud flaps may not be attached with zip ties or chains.

TK170R-20 BUMPERS

A. Must have front and rear bumper secured to frame. Ends must be capped and rounded to prevent any sharp edges.

B. Bumpers and nerf bars must be designed in a way as to reasonably inhibit two vehicles from becoming locked together.

C. Dirt Series recommends that bumper mount/brace tubes have a 30-degree bend located between bumper and frame.

D. No hazardous front or rear bumpers, nerf bars, frame heads or other protruding objects from vehicles are permitted.

E. Front bumpers must be at least 35 inches wide.

F. Rear bumpers must be at least 40 inches wide.

G. RZR 170/Open 200 is not required to run bumpers but recommended. If running bumpers the above rule applies.

TK170R-21 SKID PLATES

A. Skid plates designed to reasonably protect the front suspension, steering, and brake components are recommended on all vehicles.

B. Skid plates must be made of metal and be securely attached.

TK170R-22 FRONT SUSPENSION

A. Front suspension must be an A arm type design.

B. All four corners must have a single coil over shock.

C. Secondary suspension is not allowed.

D. Front wheel travel is limited to 13 inches for karts.

E. Junior Karts:

1. Suspension mounting points must be the same for all junior karts.

G. RZR 170 UTV/Open 200:

1. Front Suspension Single A-Arm w/ 7” Travel limit. Open class is open.

TK170R-23 REAR SUSPENSION

A. A-arms are not allowed in the rear.

B. Sway bars are allowed.

C. Secondary suspension is not allowed.

D. No diffs allowed.

E. Rear wheel travel is limited to 19 inches.

F. Junior Karts:

1. Suspension mounting points must be the same for all junior karts.

G. RZR 170 UTV/Open 200:

1. Rear Suspension Swing Arm Dual Shocks w/ 5” Travel. Open class is open

TK170R-24 STEERING

A. Trophy Karts Steering geometry settings must be approved by Dirt Series/LORORS officials.

B. RZR 170/Open 200 Production settings must remain stock.

B. System must work properly with all bolts and parts tightened.

C. Power steering is allowed.

D. Steering wheel pad is highly recommended.

TK170R-25 SHOCKS

A. There must be at least one and only one shock absorber per wheel in working condition at the start of the race.

B. No internal or external bypass shocks are allowed.

C. Shock valving and fluid type are open.

D. Air shocks are not allowed.

E. Reservoirs are allowed with a maximum size of 2.0” x 8.0”.

F. Dual rate springs are allowed. A third tender spring is allowed.

G. Shocks may not be adjusted while kart is in motion.

H. Externally adjustable rebound and compression (clicker) shocks are allowed

I. Junior Karts

1. Shock must be a maximum of 2.0” x 6.0” travel.

J. Modified Karts:

1. Shock must be a maximum of 2.0” x 12.0” travel.

TK170R-26 BUMP STOPS

A. Suspension bump stops must be of the solid type.

B. Bump stops cannot be attached to any moving suspension parts.

TK170R-27 BRAKES

A. Brakes must be in safe working condition and be able to apply adequate force to lock up tires. Turning or cutting brakes will not be permitted.

B. Brakes must be in safe operating condition during the entire event. If brake system problems do occur during the event they must be repaired before continuing in competition.

C. Front brakes are allowed.

D. Brakes may be hydraulic or cable activated.

TK170R-28 ENGINE

A. Engine must be located in the rear of the kart behind the driver. RZR 170/Open 200 engine must remain in stock location.

B. Junior 1 Karts:

1. The mandated engine is the Subaru EX27 266 cc 4 stroke air cooled engine. The engine must remain sealed by Fleming Motorsports.

2. No modifications may be made to this engine unless otherwise specified herein. This includes no modifications of any kind to the block, crankshaft, connecting rod, piston, cylinder head, valve train, cam shaft, flywheel, bearings, ignition system, governor, air cooling system, or oil system.

3. Fleming Motorsports installed reground crank and QRC billet rod is approved.

4. No components may be added or removed.

5. Dirt Series recommends the use of a flywheel guard.

C. Junior 2 Karts:

1. The mandated engine is the Honda GX390 with electric start. The engine must remain sealed by Fleming Motorsports.

2. No modifications may be made to this engine unless otherwise specified herein. This includes modifications of any kind to the block, crankshaft, connecting rod piston, cylinder head, valve train, cam shaft, flywheel, bearings, ignition system, governor, air cooling system, or oil system.

3. No components may be added or removed.

D. Modified Karts:

1. Engine must be a production engine 250 cc or 450 cc four stroke. Other engines may be approved by Dirt Series. The current approved engines for this class are as follows:

a. 450 cc Quad Engines

- Kawasaki KXF450

- Honda TRX450

- Suzuki LTR450

- Yamaha YFZ450

b. 250 cc Motorcycle Engines

- Kawasaki KX250F

- Honda CR250F

2. No modifications may be made to this engine unless otherwise specified herein. This includes no modifications of any kind to the block, crankshaft, connecting rod, piston, cylinder head, valve train, cam shaft, flywheel, bearings, governor, or oil system.

3. All engine components must be OEM quad parts with the exception of OEM motorcycle cam shafts, and OEM motorcycle valves. Factory racing parts are not allowed (HRC, GYTR, KWI, Yoshimura, etc.).

4. Engine gaskets are open.

5. Decompression pin to gear and cam gear to cam may be tack welded.

E. RZR 170 UTV:

1. 4-Stroke Single Cylinder, 169cc, Carbureted Original Polaris equipped engine

F. UTV Open 200 & RZR 170 Open:

1. 4-Stroke Single Cylinder, Max 250cc, equipped engine

TK170R-29 ENGINE SEALS

A. Junior Karts: This rule excludes RZR 170 UTV/Open 200s

1. Dirt Series utilizes a sealed engine program in the junior classes.

2. All engine castings must have a clearly visible stamped serial number. Any engine without a serial number will not be considered legal for Dirt Series and will be confiscated if used during an event.

3. Tampering with, removing, or altering an engine seal or being in possession of an un-sealed or tampered with sealed engine will result in disqualification and confiscation of the engine.

4. Only a Dirt Series official or Fleming Motorsports may remove an engine seal at an event for the purpose of repairs and the official must witness the repairs being made.

5. Following the event, engines must be sent to Fleming Motorsports for inspection and resealing as determined by Dirt series officials.

6. Dirt Series at its discretion may at any time replace a competitor’s sealed engine with another sealed engine from inventory.

TK170R-30 IGNITION

A. Each vehicle must have a positive action on/off switch in good working order. The switch must be highlighted in red, be labeled “ignition on/off,” and be located within easy reach of the driver and from the outside of vehicle. RZR 170 stock ignition is allowed

B. Any brand of spark plug may be used.

C. Junior Karts:

1. The ignition must remain stock as delivered by Subaru/Honda for this model of engine. No modifications of any kind may be made to the ignition system unless specified herein.

2. No changes in timing may be made.

3. Stock coil and spark system must be used.

4. No modifications to the flywheel or magnets may be made.

D. Modified Karts:

1. The ignition system is open; however aftermarket ignitions must be readily available to the public and pre-approved by Dirt Series.

TK170R-31 COOLING

A. Junior Karts:

1. The air-cooling system must remain stock as delivered by Subaru/Honda for this model of engine.

2. No modifications of any kind may be made to the air-cooling system.

3. A fine metal screen may be added to deflect dirt.

B. Modified Karts:

1. ¼ inch mesh or similar screen is required on front of radiator when radiator is mounted close to or behind driver.

TK190R-32 LUBRICATION

A. Junior Karts:

1. The oil lubrication system must remain stock as delivered by Subaru/Honda for this model of engine.

2. No modifications of any kind may be made to the oil lubrication system.

3. Any brand and weight of oil may be used.

TK170R-33 EXHAUST SYSTEM

A. Junior 1 & Modified Karts:

1. The exhaust header and pipe are open.

B. Junior 2 Karts:

1. Exhaust is open.

2. Silencer or muffler is required.

C. RZR 170 UTV Stock:

1. Exhaust is open. Header must remain stock.

D. UTV Open 200 & RZR 170 Open:

1. Exhaust header and pipe are open

TK170R-34 CARBURETOR

A. The carburetion system must remain as delivered by the manufacturer (Fleming Motorsports for Junior Karts) for this model of engine.

B. No modifications of any kind may be made to the carburetion system. No material may be added or removed.

C. The carburetor bore, venturi, air or fuel passages may not be enlarged.

D. Stock fuel bowl must be used.

E. A larger carburetor may not be installed.

F. Jetting is open.

G. A throttle return spring must be used on the carburetor and at the foot pedal.

H. Junior 1 Karts:

1. A hole no larger than .1875” may be drilled in the bottom half of the butterfly.

I. Modified Karts:

1. Accelerator pump may be modified.

J. RZR 170/UTV Open 200:

1. Jetting is allowed

TK170R-35 AIR FILTER AND INLET

A. The air filter and inlet are open.

TK170R-36 STARTER

A. Modified & Junior 2 Karts:

1. A pull starter or electric system may be used.

B. RZR 170/ UTV Open 200:

1. Electric system only. OEM installed

TK170R-37 ENGINE REPLACEMENT

A. Engines may be replaced during a Dirt Series event only with prior Dirt Series authorization.

B. An engine change may result in a starting position change.

C. Both original and replacement engine serial numbers will be provided to Dirt Series officials in writing before replacing the engine.

TK170R-38 FUEL INJECTION

A. Modified Karts:

1. Fuel injection is allowed if it was a stock system included with the engine.

2. No modifications to the throttle body, manifold, injectors or sensors are allowed.

3. Aftermarket controllers are allowed but must be approved by Dirt Series.

TK170R-39 FUEL CELLS

A. Safety fuel cells must be utilized for all vehicles. Steel fuel tanks are not allowed.

B. All fuel tanks must be securely mounted behind the driver’s compartment. There must be a substantial cross member and firewall between the fuel tank and the occupants.

C. Safety fuel cells shall consist of a bladder enclosed in a smooth skinned container. The container shall be constructed of 20 gauge steel, 0.060-inch aluminum or 0.125-inch Marlex. Rotary molded polymer cells are acceptable. Magnesium is strictly prohibited.

D. Container must be securely attached to vehicles with bolts or steel straps.

E. All fittings must be built into the skin and bonded to the skin as an integral part of the tank or mechanically sealed by a ring and counter ring system by either flat joint or an “O” ring. Bolt in bulkhead fittings should be utilized when possible.

F. Internal baffling is mandatory in all fuel cells. Bladder construction shall be of nylon or Dacron woven fabric impregnated and coated with a fuel resistant elastomer.

G. Pressurizing of fuel tank is not allowed.

H. Icing, Freon type chemicals, or refrigerants may not be used in or near the fuel system.

I. A splash shield must be in place to direct any spill away from the driver, motor, and motor exhaust. If fuel cell is mounted above firewall paneling, a splash shield must extend a minimum of 2 inches beyond edges of gas tank to keep possible fuel splash away from driver.

J. Fuel cell must be mounted in a position that is protected by the roll cage.

K. RZR 170 UTV/Open 200 are not required to run fuel cells. Stock fuel container is allowed.

TK170R-40 VENTS AND CAPS

A. Positive-locking non-vented fuel filler caps must be located and secured in such a manner as to prevent being knocked off or opened during movement, rollover, or accidental impact.

B. Design and installation must be done in such a manner to prevent fuel escaping from pickups, lines, fillers and breather vents if kart is partially or totally inverted.

C. Fuel breather lines must have a rollover check valve incorporated in the fuel cell. The vent line must extend to the highest point of the roll-cage nearest the fuel cell, across the width of the vehicle, and down to below the belly pan of the vehicle or 3 inches below the fuel cell, whichever is lower and can routed away from exhaust.

TK170R-41 CLUTCH

A. The engine clutch must be mounted in the stock location.

B. Clutch tuning is open providing that all tuning parts used are commercially available to the general public.

C. Junior 1 Kart:

1. Clutch tuning is limited to springs, weights, ramps, and sliders only.

2. The mandated clutch is the Comet Series 20 (six inch diameter only).

3. The Comet TAV2 Torque-A-Verter may also be used.

4. The use of any other manufacturer’s components is prohibited. Any non-mandated components will be confiscated.

5. No modifications may be made to either system. This includes no modifications of any kind to the drive cones, plates, and shafts, including changes in profiles, diameters, or materials.

6. No components may be added or removed.

7. Any brand of replacement belt may be used.

8. Clutch cover may be removed.

D. Junior 2 Kart:

1. Clutch tuning is limited to springs and spring shimming only.

2. The mandated clutch is the CMI Billet Clutch

3. The use of any other manufacturer’s components is prohibited.

Any non-mandated components will be confiscated.

4. No modifications may be made to either system. This includes no modifications of any kind to the drive cones, plates, and shafts, including changes in profiles, diameters, or materials.

5. No components may be added or removed.

6. Any brand of replacement belt may be used.

7. CMI clutch cover is mandatory.

E. Modified Karts:

1. Clutch is open.

F. RZR 170 Open/ UTV Open 200:

1. Clutch is open.

G. RZR 170 Stock:

1. Clutch must remain stock.

TK170R-42 TRANSMISSION & GEARING

A. Final drive gearing is open.

B. No reverse is allowed.

C. Four wheel drive is not allowed.

D. Chain drive is required.

E. Junior Karts:

1. No transmission allowed.

F. Modified Karts:

1. Transmission must remain stock as delivered by manufacturer for this model of engine.

2. Reliability changes are allowed with Dirt Series approval.

G. RZR 170 Stock:

1. Transmission must remain stock as delivered by manufacturer.

H. RZR 170 Open/UTV Open 200:

1. Transmission is open.

TK170R-43 DRIVE PARTS

A. Rear drive must be spool type only.

B. Modified Karts:

1. Engine to transmission must be all one piece (as a factory motorcycle or quad).

2. Chain drive is required from the driver to the driven sprocket.

3. 1 constant velocity joint is allowed.

4. Only 1 half-shaft/drive shaft with 2 universal joints is allowed.

C. RZR 170 Stock:

1. Drive parts must remain stock as delivered by manufacturer.

C. RZR 170 Open/UTV Open 200:

1. Drive parts are open.

TK170R-44 WHEELS & TIRES

A. Tires will be measured from their widest and highest point, inflated to 8 PSI.

B. No inner liners allowed.

C. Spare tire is optional.

D. No multiple tires per corner permitted.

E. Tires must be in good condition.

F. Maximum wheel diameter is 10 inches.

G. No wheel covers, or caps are allowed.

H. Junior Karts:

1. Maximum tire diameter is 21 inches.

I. Modified Karts:

1. Maximum tire diameter is 24 inches.

J. RZR 170 UTV/Open 200:

1. Maximum tire diameter is 21 inches front, 24 inches rear.

TK170R-45 FASTENERS

A. All components and parts on the kart’s suspension system, chassis, and running gear will be secured with SAE grade 8 or better nuts and bolts. Bolts must be secured with either lock nuts, lock washers, cotter pins, or safety wire and have at least one full thread showing through the nut.

B. No aluminum or titanium fasteners allowed.

TK170R-46 EXOTIC MATERIALS

A. No titanium or any other exotic materials may be used anywhere in the vehicle.

TK170R-47 HOSES

A. All fuel and brake line hoses including metal lines and fittings must be clamped and/or safety wired.

TK170R-48 RADIOS (highly recommended but not required)

A. Radios must be of two-way voice communication type only. Each race team is responsible for meeting FCC requirements.

B. Radio communication between drivers is not permitted.

C. All radio frequencies must be approved and reported to Dirt Series prior to their use.

D. All race vehicle radio communication systems must be approved by Dirt Series.

G. Spotters are recommended for all race teams.

TK170R-49 TRANSPONDERS/TIMING

A. Remote score timing devices will not be permitted by teams, owners, or anyone associated with an entry, unless approved by the Dirt Series.

B. All teams are required to rent or purchase remote timing transponders. Transponders can only be rented or purchased through the Dirt Series and numbers must be recorded with Dirt Series at the time of registration. Rental cost is $5 per round or you can purchase one for $300.

C. If you purchase a transponder, drivers are responsible for the charging and installation of transponder. Any entry without a properly charged, properly installed, functioning transponder may not be scored and may be subject to further penalty.

D. Transponders must be mounted 55 inches back from the leading edge of the front bumper along the passenger side outer panel on karts. RZR 170/Open 200 mounting must be near leading edge of front bumper along passenger side outer panel. .

E. In most cases, the above rule only applies when transponders are present for scoring for that event. Dirt Series most commonly uses the manual hand scoring process. In the event that we use transponders we will make the racers aware before hand.
