Math Project: Create a Vacation
ATTENTION all vacation lovers!! Here is your opportunity to plan your very own vacation. You will be awarded $5,000.00 to plan your own vacation. There are plenty of directions so please read them all before you start to plan your vacation.
Vacation- Calculating the Costs
Outcomes
Students will use a variety of resources to plan their vacation. They will decide on a vacation destination, length of vacation, method of transportation, a hotel, restaurants, and entertainment. Students will need to set up a trip budget and calculate the cost of each trip expense.
You must create an oral presentation of YOUR VACATION complete with visual aides.
Examples of visual aides:
a. Poster board
b. PowerPoint presentation
c. Pamphlet/Brochure
d. Other methods acceptable with teacher approval.
1. Decide where you might like to go on a vacation.
2. Will you drive or fly? How much will it cost to get there?
3. How long will you stay (must stay at least 2 nights)? What hotel will you stay at? How much will it cost?
4. Where will you eat? How much will it cost? Make sure you include tax (6% of total bill) and tip (15% of total bill)!
5. What will you do (museum, park, factory, monument, beach…)? How much will it cost? Make sure you include tax (6% of total)!
For the Oral Presentation that will be presented to the class. The visual aide must include:
a. a creative title for your driving vacation
b. a final budget that shows the cost of the entire trip and how much, if any, is left over.
c. an itinerary of your vacation destination: duration of the trip, cost to fly there and back, hotel information, daily activities, etc.- be creative!
d. a map that shows where your vacation spot is located.
