Read the following research design. Comment on the reliability and validity.
An independent organization has been hired by the University of Kentucky to study retention of information among college students. Specifically, the study involves whether or not students benefit more from using flash cards than the tradition method of class notes. After seeing an ad in the Kernel mentioning the study, 150 UK students signed up to participate. These participants were randomly divided into two groups of 75 students. One group of students received a set of class notes with the information on it to study, while the other group was provided with flash cards containing the same information. Following a two-hour study period, both groups were administered a quiz by the researchers. The score on the quiz was used as a measurement of retention rate.
