The CSV, or comma-delimited, format contains a series of data fields in quotation marks separated by commas. Data, specifically numbers containing leading zeroes such as those for ZIP codes, lose the original field formatting when converted into this file format. Convert any fields containing numbers into a text format before converting to a CSV file to ensure Mac applications (such as iWork Numbers) imports the correct sequence. Open the document containing data and select the categories that contain numerical values. For example, open an Excel spreadsheet and locate the columns that contain numbers, such as ZIP codes. Format these records as text entries, instead of numbers. For example, select the column in the Excel spreadsheet for ZIP codes and select "Text" format for the data. The numbers in those cells will shift from right-aligned to left-aligned. Save the document as a "Comma-delimited (.csv)" file format through the "Save As" function. Launch the target Mac application and select "Open" in the top menu bar. Select the desired .csv file and click the "Open" button. Follow the Import wizard for the program to match the field formats for the .CSV file, if applicable. As you go through the Import wizard, confirm that the numerical values are preserved (especially those with leading zeroes). The TomTom POI file will automatically download, ready to be used with your TomTom GPS software. Download the POIConverter from the website (see Resources). Doubleclick the downloaded archive to open the folder, and then double-click POIConverter_setup.exe to begin the setup. Click "Start," "All Programs" and then double-click the program title to launch the application. Click the folder icon, and then locate your CSV file for conversion. Double-click the file to open it within the program. Click "T" to enable a TomTom conversion. Click the floppy disc icon, and designate a location and a file name. Click the "File Type" drop-down menu and select "TomTom overlays OV2" from the list. Click "Save" to finish the conversion. Go to the POI Converter website using the link in Resources. Click "Choose File," and then locate your file for conversion. Double-click it to begin the upload. Click "Convert to OV2" to begin the conversion. Once the conversion has been finished, the file will prompt you for a download location. Then you will be able to import the OV2 to TomTom to use as a POI file.
