Good Afternoon, Teaching Excellence as we continue to ...

Good Afternoon,

I hope everyone has had a great summer break and are having a great opening of the school year. It is an exciting time here at The Center for Teaching Excellence as we continue to expand our offerings and reach out to more teachers. Over the coming year, we will be launching several new initiatives at UVA-Wise and look forward to providing new programming opportunities to meet the continuing education and professional development needs of Virginia's K-12 teachers and administrators.

Again this year, The Center for Teaching Excellence at The University of Virginia's College at Wise is offering a full fall schedule of online licensure and recertification courses for teachers in Virginia. The Online Licensure Courses meet the needs of provisionally licensed teachers who are pursuing their full endorsement and the Online Recertification Courses assist teachers who want to earn points toward recertification.

As of July 2015, the Virginia Department of Education no longer requires license holders without a master's degree to complete three semester hours in content area coursework. However, teachers may still earn up to 180 recertification points by completing college coursework that is aligned with one or more of the VDOE domains of professional competency. Each recertification course is aligned with VDOE domains and is worth 90 recertification points.

Our fall semester courses begin on September 13th with the enrollment closing date of Thursday, September 8th.

We are able to offer tuition reduction programs for Virginia teachers. The tuition rate for licensure courses is $199 per credit hour ($597 total for a traditional three credit-hour course).

Virginia teachers are eligible for an even more significant tuition reduction in our online recertification courses. The rate for these courses

is $99 per credit hour. With the applied reduction, the total tuition for three credit-hours in a recertification course is $297.

This email concludes with a listing of the courses available this semester. In the coming days, we will be sending catalog information with course descriptions to instructional and licensure personnel in your division. Additional Information can be found at uvawise.edu/cte or by clicking any of the class links below. Teachers may register for courses at:

In addition, I would like to thank you for the support that The Center has received from Virginia's school divisions. Since summer of 2013, we have provided coursework to 8,000 teachers from over one hundred school divisions throughout Virginia.

Please forward this email to the appropriate professional development and licensure personnel in your school division. I hope that we can help meet the professional development and licensure needs of your school division and look forward to working with your teachers in the coming year.
