Speed Velocity Worksheet answers

Speed Velocity Worksheet answers

1. We did this in class. Average speed = 44 mph, Average velocity = 20 mph.

2. Distance for last leg of trip = 110 km, time for last leg = 0.5 hours, need a speed of 220 km/hr

3. Radius = 6371 km, so circumference = 40029 km. 24 hrs/day, so 1668 km/hr. = 1036 mi/hr = 463 m/s.

4. After 5 seconds, the dog is 20 meters away. Your equation: S = 6t. Dog’s equation, S = 4t+20. Solving for t = 10 seconds, so you run 60 meters.

5. Boy and girl are running away from each other, as in the problem we did in class. One way to do this is: Assume boy is at origin, girl at 20 m. Boy: S = -3t. Girl: S=5t+20. Solve for t = -2.5 seconds, so they ran for 2.5 seconds. In 2.5 seconds, the boy ran 7.5 meters, and the girl ran 12.5 meters. 12.5 + 7.5 = 20 meters, the total distance between them.

6. Displacements for the 4 legs of the trip: +50, -45, +40, -35. Total displacement = +10 m, total distance = 170 m. Average velocity = 10 m/ 20 seconds = 0.5 m/s, Average speed = 170 m/20 seconds = 85 m/s.

7. 100 km/hr = 27.78 m/s, so cheetah will run 550 m in 19.8 seconds. Gazelle runs at 85 km/hr = 23.61 m/s, so gazelle will run 467 meters in that time.
