A Hedgehog Fact sheet
The hedgehog is covered with spikes. When he is frightened, he protects himself by rolling into a ball. His spikes stick out and no one can touch him.
The hedgehog is a very good animal to have in the garden. He eats beetles, slugs, snails and other pests. He feeds at night. He eats insects, snakes birds and birds’ eggs. He sleeps for most of the winter.
Hedgehogs sometimes get killed by cars. They think that the car will be frightened away by their spiky prickles.
Hedgehogs are easily tamed and some people keep them as pets to get rid of insects and others house pests.
