Job Purpose/Summary:

The Vice President for Business and Finance (VPBF) functions as a key member of the University's administrative leadership team, providing both strategic and operational support to the University.

As the University's Chief Financial Officer, the VPBF bears chief responsibility for financial strategy. The VPBF reports directly to the President and directly assists the Provost, Vice Presidents, and other senior leadership on all strategic and tactical matters as they relate to financial forecasting, cost benefit analysis, budget management, and the securing of new funding when such funding comes through financial, investment, real estate, and related markets.

The VPBF also has primary operational responsibility for the business office, including those matters related to financial oversight and audit, human resource office, bookstore, and physical plant operations on campus. The VPBF supervises a team of 5 staff members directly, with over 90 total employees in the division, and is responsible for leading key university initiatives such as implementation of integrated data analytics (Banner 9), the University strategic plan, and the university's campus master plan.

The VPBF serves as primary staff liaison for Board of Trustees committees including Audit, Business Affairs, Buildings & Grounds, Farm, and Investment.

Primary Functions:

(40%) 1. Financial Strategy Development and Implementation. The VPBF has a broad strategic portfolio that includes collaborating with the President, Provost and Vice Presidents to put the University's resources to best use in advancing its mission.

(30%) 2. Chief Business Officer. The Vice President for Business and Finance provides leadership, vision and proactive integrated financial planning that optimizes resources in support of the University's mission and strategic priorities.

(15%) 3. Serves as the Primary Liaison to the Business Affairs, Investment, Audit and related committees of the Board of Trustees.

(15%) 4. Supervises the Business Office, Physical Plant, Human Resource Office, Bookstore (and with VP for Student Affairs, joint oversight of food service contract).

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (Education, Certifications, Specialized Skills):

1. Master's Degree in Finance, Business or Accounting (CPA optional). 2. At least five years of financial experience, including high-level management

experience with the day-to-day financial operations of an organization of at least 50 employees. 3. Knowledge of not-for-profit accounting in accordance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Higher education experience preferred but not required. 4. Ability to think creatively and strategically. 5. Experience in operational and strategic planning, policy development, and financial analysis 6. Ability to communicate ideas and information effectively in written and oral formats to administrative staff, professional colleagues, governing boards, and the general public in large or small group settings. 7. Strong collaborator across disciplines. 8. Excellent team leadership skills. 9. Sense of humor

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports: Asst VP and Controller, Assoc VP for Human Resources and Title IX Coordinator, Bookstore Manager, Director of Physical Plant, and Administrative Specialist IV - VP for Business and Finance.

Physical Requirements: Office environment/no specific or unusual physical or environmental requirements.

Travel Requirements: Occasional overnight travel

Other Requirements: Some evening and weekend working hours required. Successfully pass a background investigation.
