Instructions for Creating an Online Account with the IRS

With the recent tax changes surrounding the Economic Stimulus Payments nontaxable unemployment compensation and Advance Child Tax Credits, having an Online Account set up with the IRS has become a helpful resource to taxpayers. This Online Account can be used to access information regarding payments received, opt out of the advance Child Tax Credit payments, as well as to print a transcript of your tax return. Due to the increased value of having an Online Account, we are providing these instructions for setting up an account below.

Before registering for the Online Account, you will need to make sure that you have the following information handy:

? Full Name ? Email ? Birthdate ? Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN) ? Tax filing status ? Current address ? Phone number to receive confirmation text

Additionally, in order to verify your identity, you will need a number from one of your financial accounts. The following accounts can be used:

? Last 8 digits of Visa, Mastercard, or Discover credit card OR ? Student loan OR ? Mortgage or home equity loan OR ? Home equity line of credit OR ? Auto loan

Please note that you cannot use a debit card, American Express credit card, or student loans issued by Nelnet.

Once you have this information, you can go to to register and set up an account using the following steps:

? Click on "View Your Account" ? On the next screen, click on "Create or View your Account" ? On the next screen, under the Sign Up section, click on "Create Account" ? From here, you will need to follow the steps to set your account. The webpage will ask for the

required information listed above directly as it appears on your recently filed income tax return. You will also need an e-mail address and a phone number to receive a text message. ? You will next need to provide the number from your financial account (see list above)

After you have followed all of the steps, your account will be created and you will be able to log-in.
