First, go to the Main IRS page and click on View Your Account:

Next, click on Create or view your account: 2

This takes you to a page where you can create your account or log in to an existing account. Click on Create Account to begin the registration process.

This brings up a screen informing you that you'll need to register as a user. Click on Continue to proceed.

The next screen lists the information you'll need to register. Besides your full name, you'll need your email address, date of birth, Social Security Number, filing status, and current address. Click Yes to confirm you have that information available.

The next screen explains that to verify your identity, you will also need information from one financial account linked to your name. This can be any one of the following:

o Credit card. You'll need the last eight digits of the account number. This won't work with American Express, debit cards or corporate credit cards)

o Student loan. You'll need your account number. The IRS is unable to verify loans issued by Nelnet.

o Mortgage or home equity loan or home equity line of credit. o Auto loan. Click on Yes to verify you have this information.

Besides financial information, the IRS needs another method of verifying your identity. The fastest and easiest method is with a Mobile phone linked to your name. If you don't have a cell phone account under your name, you'll receive an activation code by mail within about 10 days. This code will be good for 30 days. To complete the process, you'll need the IRS2Go mobile app installed on an Android, iPhone, iPad, or Amazon Fire tablet OR a U.S.-based phone number anytime you log in. Click on Continue.

The first step is to enter your name and email address. When you click on Send Code, a confirmation code will be sent to your email address.
