Stacy Middle School Minute"Where Everyday We S.O.A.R.!" - Week of 10/05 - 10/09 HYPERLINK "; PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGEDear SMS Parents and Families,With a lot of flexibility, creativity, and collaboration, we have made the transition to in person schooling and brought more structure to remote learning. It is amazing to see Stacy staff and families work together to support the learning for our children as we navigate this public health crisis. We have all traveled out of our comfort zone to learn new things and new ways to look out for each other better. Stacy staff have made a commitment to maintain strong and positive relationships this school year, which is critical to high student engagement. We aim to meet the needs of every student at school and when learning at home. Our educators have been working hard to prepare innovative ways to ensure an academic environment that will minimize and address students’ learning loss, maximize quality engagement and create a safe learning environment. In addition, we are proud to provide all students with a Chromebook to participate in online learning. We will continue to face challenges in the months ahead, but I’m confident that our students, families, and staff will excel, even under the most difficult circumstances. With appreciation,Tahon Ross.COLLEGE GEAR DAYEvery 1st Tuesday and 1st Thursday of each month starting this Tuesday, October 6, we will show our support for HIGHER EDUCATION with COLLEGE GEAR DAY!!! We want to give students in both Cohort A and B an opportunity to participate. I encourage everyone to wear their college apparel/college colors. Teachers are encouraged to take a few minutes in the beginning of their classes to share where they went to college, why they chose that school, what they majored in and a fun fact about their college. Let’s encourage our students to dream of a higher education by sharing our own personal journey and college experiences!BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHTStacy Middle School will be holding a virtual Back to School Night on Thursday, October 15, 2020. Please look out for Zoom links to attend.OPTIMISTIC OCTOBERLife is far from perfect, but there are lots of reasons for optimism. Setting positive goals for the future gives our lives a sense of direction and purpose. And although we face many challenges there are also lots of reasons to stay hopeful. By consciously choosing our priorities we can overcome issues, make progress and focus on what really matters.SOCIAL EMOTIONAL RESOURCES FOR MILFORD FAMILIESAs a way to provide social-emotional resources to the Milford Community, Ms. Lisa Kingkade has created a virtual office. You will find information on various mental health topics, social-emotional learning activities, community resources, as well as her contact information. Please feel free to reach out to Ms. Kingkade anytime.MCASCurrently MCAS is scheduled for the spring and we expect more information from the state on plans or any adjustments over the next several weeks from the state. It is possible that MCAS could be postponed or canceled similar to last year, but that requires a waiver from the federal government and the state government. Last year a waiver was requested by the Massachusetts Department of Education and granted. It is still very early in the year, but there appears to be less of an appetite at the federal level for these waivers on both sides of the political aisle.FLU SHOTS AVAILABLEThere will be a Drive-Thru Flu Shot Clinic at Milford High School for Milford residents only on Wednesday, October 7.
