HYDE LEADERSHIP CHARTER SCHOOL VIRTUAL LEARNING PLAN

HYDE'S 2020 VIRTUAL LEARNING PLAN --------------------------------?----------

What follows are Hyde's complete plans for virtual learning during the spring of 2020. Needless to say, we are continuously developing our programs and the supporting technology as we learn from our experience. During this time of "social distancing," Hyde continues to stay in touch with students and families every day. We keep daily attendance and maintain daily contact with students and families. We are proud of the fact that our virtual learning attendance is as strong as our "regular" school attendance. We see this level of student engagement as an endorsement of our teachers' virtual programs as well as a reminder of how important the school is as a stabilizing force in the social and emotional lives of our students, especially during a time of trial and uncertainty. As a K-12 college preparatory school, Hyde serves a wide spectrum of developmental stages- from four-years-olds to eighteen-years-olds, to college students and beyond. We have compiled separate plans for each division: K-3, our elementary school; 4-8, our middle school; and 9-12, our high school and post-secondary success program. Several themes unify all three virtual learning plans: character development signature programs, individualized support for students with special needs, and a blending of asynchronous and synchronous instruction. All three divisions have online tools, with grades 2nd-12th utilizing Chromebooks and Google Classroom as the main tool/ platform (many others mentioned in the documents). We continue to troubleshoot the needs of students and staff and are pleased with the degree of engagement our students are experiencing. The new formats and modes of learning available through our virtual learning programs have unleashed opportunities for students to discover their talents and interests and provide innovative ways for individualized instruction and personalized learning. While we badly miss being in the school buildings with everyone else, we are learning so much as we make adjustments, rise to new challenges, and get more and more out of our technology tools to share, to grow, and to learn.

Sincerely,

Thomas Sturtevant, Executive Director

VIRTUAL LEARNING PLAN

--------------------------------

Hyde's elementary school is a place of joy and an excitement for learning. Our transition to a virtual learning program continues this focus as we offer students our inclusive program where all learners feel safe, nurtured, and challenged. Our staff will continue to embrace the uniqueness of each child as they develop their character, grow academically, and tend to their social-emotional well-being. We view the shift to virtual learning as an opportunity to engage with students in new and innovative ways.

The elementary school virtual learning plan follows an asynchronous learning model. We feel strongly that this student-centered approach to learning offers our students and families the flexibility they need during our time online. Teachers post lessons in a variety of subjects to the online classrooms and students complete those lessons at their own pace throughout the day. Teachers also schedule virtual face-to-face check-ins with students each week.
