Dear Parent/Guardian,

Dear Parent/Guardian,

This trimester your son/daughter is enrolled in PreCalculus. I am sending this letter home in order to explain some of the requirements of this course.

The goal of this course is to review, consolidate and refine the skills that students have learned in Algebra and Geometry in preparation for the study of Calculus. Hopefully, your student will continue their study of mathematics. However, even if they do not, Precalculus serves as an excellent review for ACT, SAT, or college math proficiency exams. Students will develop their problem solving skills with traditional and technology-based methods. Discussion and presentation will be an important element of daily class work.

The students have been given a grading policy, and I will give them a weekly schedule of assignments, so that they can budget their time. Students will be expected to complete reading and problem solving assignments that will take approximately 45 minutes per day. In the case of absence, it is the students’ responsibility to find out, and make up, what they have missed. Please access Pinnacle and my webpage on to keep track of grades and assignments. Students who do not have internet access at home may use one of our class computers, or the media center.

A graphing calculator will be required to complete assignments. While we do have a classroom set of calculators, they must be kept in the classroom. Students who are unable to purchase their own may have difficulty completing some assignments at home, and should make arrangements to complete their homework during achievement hour. A TI 83+ or TI84+ is preferred. Students who purchase other calculators will be responsible for consulting their instruction manuals for procedural differences. Free graphing calculators can be downloaded at the following websites:  ( a good one with instructions)

(this one you have to unzip the folder after download)

If you have any special questions or concerns at any time, please feel free to email me at cdurante@. I respond very quickly to emails throughout the day. However, if you prefer to call, the best time to reach me at school is after 1:45.

Claire Durante
