Job Title:Senior Process Engineer – Emulsion PolymersDepartment/Group:EngineeringLocation:East Berlin, Connecticut ,USAReports To:VP - OperationsSummary Description:Position Summary: Senior Process Engineer is responsible for managing the reactor processes for emulsion polymers to achieve production goals (including capacity expansion and bringing new reactor #4 on line ) while assuring all environmental, health, safety and quality requirements are maintained at the plant /site.The Senior Process Engineer is responsible to oversee all maintenance and project needs to assure equipment reliability and systems are performing optimally. Works with Plant Chemist to ensure proper conversion of product and R&D recipes into operational procedures/batch cards to assure proper production is essential. The Senior Process Engineer will work closely with the VP- Operations and Plant Manager to identify and install new equipment (reactors, capacity expansion and support systems). The Senior Process Engineer is responsible to assure all new equipment has been certified, signed off, and proper training provided before putting into service.Key Responsibilities:Responsible for plant/site EHS.Participates in the company Safety Committee.Responsible for Maintenance to support manufacturing through the development of reactor process conditions for emulsion polymers and SOPs.Supports achievement of plant metrics ( reactor utilization , cycle time reduction, batch yields etc) and quality metrics ( rework etc ) for emulsion polymers.Provides process and project support to the Operations team as needed on a 24/7 basis.Responsible for Reactor # 4 start up and oversees the project engineering team for engineering calculations, equipment specifications/selection, equipment installation and start-up. Responsible for capacity improvement projects with Reactors #1, #2 and #3.Actively supports the PSM/RMP program and assures compliance. Assures best manufacturing practices and equipment are in place for the manufacturing process of emulsion polymersMaintains active maintenance work order and preventive maintenance lists and assist maintenance in the priorities of outstanding work order itemsOversees the proper operation of air and waste water treatment facilities (scrubber, neutralizer, wastewater filtration systems) including troubleshooting problems to maintain compliance with applicable regulations and permit conditions/restrictions.Manages the process control system for the effective and safe operation of the reactor trainsUses inside and outside resources to complete projects in a timely and economic manner where necessary.Trains manufacturing employees in all the SOPs related to the manufacturing of emulsion polymers.Provides the process input and support to the technical team for new product development, product scale-ups, raw material testing/replacement, and product efficiency improvements.Oversees all maintenance activities on the reactor trains to assure proper completion, equipment readiness, and management sign-off under our PSM process. Provides input and establishes all scheduled PM cycles of equipment.Supports annual efficiency, quality, and safety goalsProvides engineering skills as needed including developing capital budgets and timelines, sizing equipment, preparing P and ID’s and flow diagrams and doing capacity studies. Maintains Equipment P&ID for all primary equipment.Assists the company as necessary to provide technical support, finding new vendors, purchasing and approving raw materialsActively supports the PSM/RMP program and assures compliance Supports manufacturing with the selection and purchase of production supplies Assures any changes to process controls are approved, updated/documented, and all affected personnel trained through Management of Change process.Provides input to Preventive Maintenance program, scheduled PM’s and evaluates maintenance work orders for repeat or trending items related to the safe performance of plant equipment.Contributes to the plant wide EHS , housekeeping efforts, standards and regular inspection.Works in a safe manner that meets all company and industry safety policies and practices.Stays current on manufacturing processes and equipment and provides input to annual capital plan. Visits key customers and attends trade shows and conferences.Documents all process conditions, changes, improvements. Maintains necessary records for product control, certification, and audits. Supports regulatory/safety audits.Active participant with site customer audits/visits.Skills/QualificationsB.S Degree required in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related science discipline Minimum of 5 years experience with emulsion polymer manufacturing ( acrylics , styrene-acrylics or vinyl acetate /acrylics or polyurethane dispersions).Knowledge of plant automation / distributive control systems for emulsion polymers.Ability to work with Operations , R&D and Maintenance.Experience in project management Effective communicator and trainerPassionate about safety and manufacturing operations ................
