Third Sunday of Easter – Being a true disciple will often put us at odds with the society around us. We cannot just accept everything those in authority tell us nor can we presume that because “everyone” thinks a certain way that it is right. The Jewish authorities wanted the apostles to stop preaching, but the apostles continued to preach the gospel. As disciples, we need to learn to reflect on what those in authority and also our neighbors are saying and doing. We need to look to the gospel of Jesus and see what that is telling us. We need to pray to the Spirit to help us discern the path we are called to take. It is not easy and, at times, we may find that we disagree with those we respect. We need to be humble enough to listen to those who disagree with us and weigh their views carefully. We may not always be right, but if we rely on the Spirit’s help, we will always find our way.

Hear, O Lord, and have pity on me; O Lord, be my helper. – Psalm 30:10
