90 and Over Celebration

Everyone is invited to join us on Friday, September 11th as we honor those seniors 90+ living independently in Medina County. Our honored guests will receive a free meal, certificate ceremony, and entertainment. If you, or someone you know is 90 or better or is turning 90 this year, tell them to call the Office for Older Adults and sign up!

Senior Center Registration Everyone who comes to the Senior Center is now required to fill out a registration form. See Jenny or anyone at the front desk for a form.

Flu Shot Clinics at the Senior Center

Weds. Sept. 2nd & Fri. Oct. 2nd by Walgreens Pharmacy

The clinic will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 in the Courtyard room on Sept. 2nd. 11:30-12:30 on Oct. 2nd. Bring your Medicare Card. Pneumonia shots will also be available. No need to sign up ahead of time. Shots are not limited to seniors. Insurance cards are also accepted if under 65.

FARMER’S MARKET – UPDATE!

at the Medina County Office for Older Adults

The 2015 Senior Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program will be coming in June. MCOOA will have applications available on Friday, June 12th. You must complete a 2015 application; a changed 2014 application can not be accepted. The coupons will be distributed on a first come, first served basis, beginning on Thursday, June 18 at 8:30a.m. at our office - 246 Northland drive, Medina, Ohio. Please keep your completed applications until that time – any application received before the distribution WILL BE RETURNED. If you know someone who needs an application, please let them know they will be available. The income guidelines are 185% of poverty level. This includes ALL household income, even if you live with someone not related to you. If you live alone, you can make up to $21,774. 2 persons in household $29,470. If you have more than that, the guidelines are on the application.

Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program

The 2015 Senior Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) is funded by the US Dept. of Agriculture (USDA) and provides eligible participants with $50.00 worth of coupons to purchase fresh, unprepared, locally grown fruits, vegetables, herbs and honey from participating farmers. The purpose of the SFMNP is to improve the nutritional health of low-income seniors and to increase business for local farmers. Coupons expire on Oct. 31st. Please make sure you use all the coupons by Oct. 31st.

Mobile Markets: Richardson Farms will set up at the OOA Sept. 4th & 18 and Oct. 2nd 11:00am-12:00pm. Richardson’s accepts the coupons. A second and final market will be announced for Oct.

New Classes at the Senior Center

Introduction To Reiki I

Reiki is an Energy Healing System that promotes relaxation. The Senior Center will be offering a 3 part class led by Reiki Master Judy Totts and starts Monday, Sept. 14th from 1:00-2:30, meets the following two Mondays for an attunement and practice w/ a Reiki circle. See Jenny if you are interested and to sign up. Space is very limited and a fee of $25 will be charged.

Writing the Story of Your Life

A ten week guided autobiography group. Using guided writing activities each week, participants will learn techniques for putting life recollections into writing. Space is filling up fast. See Jenny to join this free class.

Nifty Needle workers – Meets every Tuesday and Thursday in the Craft Room at 9:30am.

Painting Group – Meets every Wednesday beginning at 10am in the Craft Room. Bring your supplies and learn different techniques. This class is full. Call to be put on the waiting list.

Bible Study – Meets every Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30am in the Courtyard Room

Medina Seniors Incorporated – a social group for seniors 60 and over – There will be no meeting in Sept. The next meeting is at 12:00 on 10/13th.

*New Painting Class-Meets every Monday at 10:00. Bring your supplies! Artist, Gloria will be there to give you tips and techniques. There will be a small fee of $2 per class. See Jenny if interested.

Sewing machines are available in the Rec. Room for your mending or sewing projects. Machines and thread are provided.

Watercolor Class Barbara Johns teaches a watercolor class on Thurs. at 1:00. This class is full. Call to be put on the waiting list.

Parkinson’s Disease Support Group 9/4/15 (Th) & 10/1/15 at 1:00 in the dining room. No Aug. meeting.

Friends in Focus: a support group for the Visually Impaired. 9/14/15 (M) & at 12:00 in the Craft Room 10/12/15 off site.

Line Dancing – meets every Monday at 2pm in the Dining Room. The cost is $3 per class, the first class is free.

Tai Chi Class – every Friday at 1:30,

Exercise is available Mondays at 10:30 and Fridays at 9:30 & 10:30am in the Healthy Corner Room. This group uses dynabands and light weights to strengthen muscles. Monday & Friday classes are led by a volunteer.

Yoga Class- Weds. 3:00-4:00 No floor exercises. The instructor is Lisa Wittman. $3 per class.

Arthritis Foundation Approved Exercise Classes (2 times)– meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 to 11:15am in the Healthy Corner Room. The class is taught by a

certified Arthritis Foundation Instructor from Medina Village. Most exercises can be done while sitting. An additional class has been added from 9:30-10:15 and is senior-led using the Arthritis Foundation Exercises.

Blood Pressure Screenings – 10:30 to 11:15 every Tuesday. Provided by Sanctuary Medina.

Friday B/P screenings will be held at 10:00. Provided by Right at Home on 9/4 & 10/2,

Crossroads Hospice B/P and Ask A Nurse on 9/11 & 10/9,

Comfort Keepers on 9/18 & 10/16,

and Always Best Care on 9/25 & 10/30.

Readers Theater Group

Every Weds. at 1:00. Instructor Zoya Wilson will lead the Reader’s Theater group. If you are interested, speak with Jenny. $2 per class.

Wheel of Fortune is played in the Craft room every Friday at 10:30. Join the puzzle solvers as “Vanna” fills in the letters. No prizes are provided. Just for fun and to pass the time.

Wii Bowling League takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10am in the Rec Room. Scores will be posted

Movie Matinee Join us at 12:15 on the last Wednesday of every month for a movie in the Rec Room! Only 25 Cents to see a newly released movie! Includes a Root Beer Float.
