2019 Chenango United WayAnnual ReportSpring 2020Dear Chenango Community-2019 was one of the busiest years we have had in a long time! The work was never-ending, but the gratification never ceased either. Greater Chenango Cares IRTFor the third time, we were fortunate to hold the Greater Chenango Cares IRT event. More than 187 service men and women came to our community in July 2019 to provide no-cost medical, dental, vision and veterinary services for our community. 1,131 unduplicated patients from all around our Southern Tier and Central NY region received 6,160 services over 9 ? days. The total value of the services provided back to the community was more than $370,572. Individual clinic services included the following: Medical Clinic- 1,141 services Pharmacy- 807 services Dental Clinic- 1,995 services Optometry Clinic- 1,368 services Veterinary Clinic- 849 services Plus, 175 volunteers gave 1,398 hours of volunteer time to the IRT event valued at more than $37,000. Thank you to the many organizations, corporate and business sponsors and foundation donors that helped to make this event a reality again this year, and to the Steering Committee members who met every other week from December 2018-July 2019 to plan and oversee this amazing event: Incident Commander- Matt Beckwith, Chenango County Emergency ServicesVolunteer Coordinator- Victoria Mitchell, Chenango United Way Military Liaison- Jaclyn Courter, Southern Tier 8Operations Section Chief- A Wesley Jones, Chenango County Sheriff’s Dept. Planning Section Chief and Public Information Officer- Shane Butler, Chenango County Planning Dept. Deputy Planning Chief- Chris Paul, Chenango Health Network Logistics Section Chief- Joe Angelino, Retired, Norwich City Police Chief Veterinary Division Chair- Annette Clarke, Chenango County SPCA Norwich City Schools- Katie Hansen and Kisten GiglioIT Chair- Jeff Smith and Steve AndrusSummer Interns- Erin Hendry, Colgate UniversityChenango Dental Task ForceThe Chenango Dental Task Force, another collaborative initiative of the Chenango United Way, worked hard in 2019 to continue to educate our youth about the important of tooth brushing. More than eleven community partners came together every month to discuss and implement take home kits for all 4,000 elementary schools kids across the County, as well as to encourage tooth brushing within the classroom. In the fall of 2018, Perry Brown and Gibson Elementary Schools in Norwich, as well as Holy Family School, agreed to continue their in-school tooth-brushing program into the 2018-2019 school year. The Chenango Dental Task Force provided each school with all of the supplies necessary to run the program, including toothbrushes, toothpaste, timers to time tooth brushing, sanitizer wipes, small paper condiment cups used for spitting into and over-the-door shoe holders used to store each classroom’s supplies. However, for the 2019-2020 school year, funding for this two-year in-school tooth brushing initiative was lost. Based on this information, the Norwich Rotary Club applied for and received a Rotary District 7170 grant for to help fill this funding gap for the Chenango Dental Task Force so that in-school tooth brushing could continue in the Norwich schools for the 2019-2020 school year. The Chenango United Way and the Norwich Rotary Club provided matching grants. This allowed 600 children (at the cost of $6.64/child/year) to participate in the program for the 2019-20 school year, an increase of approximately 109 children from the previous year. We are so grateful for this partnership with the Norwich Rotary and we hope that this collaboration will continue as we expand to additional school districts and other Rotary Clubs throughout the County. Fall 2019 Campaign The fall 2019 campaign was led by John and Marcia Watt and NBT Bank played a key role in our campaign’s success. The creativity of their Marketing and Communication Departments and the tireless work of key staff, Megan Mirabito and Olivia Desmond, allowed us to have an amazing campaign video and campaign brochure this year. We are so appreciative for all they did for us this past year!We are also so grateful for the generosity of the Chenango community, whose contributions made it possible for us to exceed our goal of $425,000 and raise $428,363 for 2020 allocations. The fall 2019 campaign brought us 143 brand new givers and almost $40,000 in new dollars. We saw increases in our Community Foundation and Industry divisions and we had more volunteers contribute time to our organization than ever before. It was a tremendous year! 2019 Funded Program Performance OutcomesFinally, as part of this year’s 2019 annual report, we are again pleased to provide you with performance outcomes for each of the programs that received Chenango United Way funding last year. Thanks to your very generous donations, we are happy to report that measurable results were achieved across all three areas of focus in our community- financial stability, education and health- and that many people’s lives were impacted because of your contributions. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for continuing to believe in the important work that the Chenango United Way does in our community.
