ASK YOUR TEACHER WHETHER YOUR TOPIC IS SUITABLE BEFORE STARTING YOUR RESEARCH

These websites may be of interest to you:

STEP TWO – INTRODUCTION

The introduction is a very important part of the project because it introduces the project. Make sure that it captures the interest of the reader.

Begin by writing a paragraph, which introduces the topic, as clearly as you can. Explain what the project is about. What questions do you have about the topic? Is there one overall question that you would like to answer? That is your research question.

(An example of a research question is: What is the influence of X on Y?)

Write one paragraph about what you already know about the subject you chose.

Write another paragraph about what you hope to find out/ learn about your subject.

Write another paragraph explaining why you chose to do this subject.

Write another paragraph explaining exactly how you plan to go about doing the project.

STEP THREE – BODY OF THE PROJECT - RESEARCH

The body consists of various chapters in which you present different aspects of your subject.

Your aim is to provide information, background and research about the topic you have chosen, and to answer the questions you asked in the introduction.

You need to make a summary of 5 articles that you read on the topic of your project.

Read the article. Highlight the main ideas. Write the main ideas IN YOUR OWN WORDS.

If you absolutely HAVE TO copy a sentence – make sure that you put it in quotation marks and then write the author and date after, in brackets.

For example: (This is a summary of what is written in Step Three)

The body of the project consists of summaries of the main ideas of five articles, but we were told to "Write the main ideas IN YOUR OWN WORDS" (Ben-Tura, 2007)

KEEP ALL COPIES OF ARTICLES, DRAFTS, PAGES IN YOUR WORKING FILE, to be submitted as part of the project.

STEP FOUR – SURVEY OR INTERVIEW

The survey part must include an introduction, middle and conclusions.

What do you want to learn from the survey?

Think of some questions.

Decide who will answer the questions.

Write up your results, including grafts, tables, etc. to show your conclusions.

Conclusion of the survey results

STEP FIVE - CONCLUSION:

What did you learn about your topic?

What problems did you encounter while doing the project? (and how did you deal with them?)

Do you have any further comments, opinions, suggestions and predictions about your topic?

Answer research questions in this section if you have not done so in previous sections. End with a summary. Restate and summarize the main points that you learned about your topic.

Do you have any recommendations you can make to effect possible changes or improve the situation you have described?

What actions can you propose your readers to take? Answering such questions is also an effective way to end your essay.

End with fervor. Strategies for getting the reader’s attention in introductions can also be used to end your essay uniquely and memorably e.g. stating a quotation, a provocative question, a dramatic anecdote, and/or some startling facts about the subject).

End where you began. Sometimes called ‘echoing’ or ‘framing’, this type of ending picks up an idea/image suggested in the introduction and echoes it in the conclusion. For example, you can refer back to the anecdote/example you have mentioned previously and show how it is still relevant or how it could have been different. You can also provide a solution to the problem you have raised or give your own answer to a question you have asked. This form of conclusion gives the essay symmetry and provides the reader with a sense of closure.

STEP SIX – TABLE OF CONTENTS

The Table of Contents should include all the parts that appear in your project, and the numbers and page numbers.

Example:

1. TABLE OF CONTENTS………………………….………….2

2. INTRODUCTION……………………………………………4

STEP SEVEN – APPENDIX

Attach all the articles you used to this part of the project.

Do you have anything else to add to your project? maps, graphs, etc? They can be part of the Appendix section of your project.

STEP EIGHT – BIBLIOGRAPHY

Make sure you keep a record of your sources as you work !!!

Write your entries in alphabetical order:

(first the author's last name, the initials of his first name, the year the article/book was printed and the title of the article/book)

STEP NINE - REFLECTION SHEET

Each AND EVERY student must fill out an individual reflection page to be handed in with the project.
