Step One - Build a Mind Map or Word Web:

1) In the Center of the map or web you should put the title Challenges to Liberalism Related to Foreign Policy: Cold War

2) There should be seven “policies of cold war strategy” branches off of the center (expansionism, containment, deterrence, brinkmanship, détente, alignment vs. nonalignment, liberation movements)

3) Make sure you define each policy

4) Make sure you identify how each of the superpowers participated in this policy

5) Make sure you identify key people, places and conflicts that occurred because of the policies pursued

6) Identify any connections between the conflicts of the cold war and the conflicts today

On the back of the map briefly summarize (linear notes) Yalta and After Yalta, starting on p. 236.

Step Two – Class Presentation

Choose one of the following events. Prepare a presentation for the class that communicates the key ideas and important and lasting understandings that we need to know about that event in the context of the Cold War:

Note describing the event, its significance in the Cold War, key players and places preferably supported with a map.

2) PowerPoint presentation of information on the handout. The powerpoint should contain:
