Purpose

To provide a high standard of administrative support to the different functional areas within the Health Facility. This position is accountable for promoting good public relations with the general community and both internal and external customers of the Hospital and maintaining processes that enable patients to exercise their option to be treated as a non-public patient. To provide support to patients and staff in the processes associated with patient election and revenue retention.

Your key responsibilities

• Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in accordance with Queensland Health’s core values, as outlined above.

• Participate in relevant revenue networks to support the development and recording of activity, and the implementation and evaluation of revenue collection processes.

• Screen admissions to identify patients with private health insurance and offer an informed choice about private patient treatment options.

• Confirm entitlements with private health funds of behalf of the patient or hospital which may assist patients in electing to be treated as a fee-paying patient.

• Preparation and tendering reminder and debt collection letters, recording and reporting outstanding debts.

• Preparation of accounts for payment, including coding of general accounts, general vouchers and requisition.

• Collection of monies (e.g. pharmacy payments) from clients ensuring this is balanced with receipt book and cash book and reconciling Trust/Revenue Accounts.

• High standard of knowledge of cash handling practices to ensure adherence to all cash handling and associated security practices.

• Provide administration in areas that may include clerical duties such as but not limited to appointment scheduling, admissions and discharges, answering the telephone, filing, word processing, data entry, taking minutes of meetings and maintaining records.

• Ensure high standard of service is provided to all clients internal and external within acceptable timeframes.

• Contribute to the daily operations of the medicals records department by providing advice and support to staff as required.

• Prioritising of workload to enable smooth and efficient operation of the office environment.

• Maintain an effective stock control system and reorder supplies (e.g. stationery) where necessary using appropriate purchasing guidelines.

• Provide and maintain a high degree of confidentiality to ensure patient and staff privacy in all aspects of the position.

• Comply with and adhere to Queensland Health policies, procedures, standards and legislation, relevant to the role and work area including conducting regular file audits and attending training as required.

Qualifications/Professional registration/Other requirements

• Licence to Operate Vehicles: This position requires the incumbent to operate a class C motor vehicle, and an appropriate licence endorsement to operate this type of vehicle is required. Proof of this endorsement must be provided before commencement of duty. Please note: Written proof form the relevant authority may be necessary to prove current licence status.

About the Hospital and Health Service/Division/Branch/Unit The Central Highlands area is serviced by the Emerald Hospital, Springsure Hospital Multipurpose Health Service, Blackwater Hospital Multipurpose Health Service and clinics at Capella, Tieri and Sapphire.

The Emerald Hospital is located 300kms west of the Queensland coastline. The population of the surrounding community is approximately 28,000 with 15,000 at Emerald. There are two small hospitals within 100kms, located at Blackwater and Springsure. In addition, there are outpatient clinics at Tieri, Gemfields and Capella.

The Emerald Hospital provides Medical and Acute Care with an Emergency Service, Outpatients Clinics, Child Health/Immunisation/School Health, Health promotion, X-Ray, along with visiting Allied Health Services. The Community Heath Service provides a range of Primary Health Care programs.

This position reports to the Administration Co-ordinator (AO4).

This position works closely with Clinical Staff & Clients within the Central Highlands Health Service District.
