Experience in the CTE Industrial Arts Classroom.Multiple endorsement areas highly preferredSUPERVISOR:High School PrincipalSUMMARY:To create a flexible instructional program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with students assigned to the classroom; to motivate students to develop attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation of secondary grade education, in accordance with each pupil’s ability; to supervise students within the classroom, on campus, and during school functions; to provide a safe environment for learning; to establish good relationships with other staff members. Provide active leadership, guidance, supervision, and advisor teamwork in the CTE Program. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:This list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary and without notice. Depending upon individual assignments, the Secondary Teacher performs all or a combination of several of the following duties:Teach a wide variety of industrial arts courses at the 6-12 level.Teach to the Washington State standards and to the approved CTE curriculum for this program. Write and submit framework for CTE course offerings.Provide competency-based instruction for students leading to employment or further training. Keep accurate inventory of lab and classroom machines, tools and equipment.Manage the budget for the program; order materials, supplies and equipment to adequately maintain and operate the instructional program. Work to find additional funds for the program and upgrades as possible.Include youth leadership development as an integral part of the curriculum.Provide and document proper safety instruction to students and maintain equipment in safe working order.Make students aware of career opportunities in the fields utilizing the technologies and provide career counseling as appropriate.Assist in placement of students for internships, job shadowing, higher education, and mentoring.Work under the guidance of local advisory board and the CTE Director/Assistant Principal in matters pertaining to program standards.Must have excellent attendance.Team and network with instructors to facilitate integrated curriculum that is relevant to student and industry needs.Plan, implement and conduct instructional experiences directed to the learning objectives and assess student achievement of objectives. Manage behavior of students and maintain an atmosphere conducive to learning.Establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships.Implement Technical Writing, Science and Math competencies within the program.Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, and colleagues.Be innovative and committed to the challenge of change in education.Be committed to success for all students.Foster cultural diversity to meet the needs of any student who enters the Waterville School District.Be flexible and cooperative in schedule changes and accommodating in other needs for use of facility.Implement the requirements of IDEA, Section 504, and ADA in the education of students with disabilities.Work within the school community to build student skills through partnership with school maintenance staff.QUALIFICATIONS:Education and ExperienceValid Washington Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsementsMust maintain all licenses and certifications as a condition of continued employment including 1st Aid/CPR/AED certification. Required Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesPerforms related tasks consistent with the scope and responsibility of the position.Desire to work with junior/senior high school level students in developing their knowledge and skill to be employed in the field or to continue on in post-secondary education.Have the desire and passion for the Skills USA and working with students outside the school day.Must be a team player who works cooperatively within a school context and organization.Ability to motivate and instruct students of all ability levels with emphasis on providing for their individual learning styles-basic levels and extensions beyond basics.Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and guidance to the youth leadership requirements of the program.Demonstrated success in maintaining a positive, productive learning climate within the classroom as well as with parents and colleagues.Must possess a positive attitude about change and an eagerness to implement changes that will enhance student learning.Ability to effectively integrate technology resources into the curriculum.Bilingual in Spanish is preferred, but not required.
